Branch Twenty
Both Xavier and Jessica enter the car and the driver goes away. Xavier had hammered that Jessica should wear something exotic but she still went with her plain tee and skinny jeans. She was a simple girl like that.
Her wardrobe barely spoke classy not to talk of exotic. Xavier made a mental note to call famous stylists and designers to change her entire wardrobe after the whole mess settles down.
She would have to be his date to many events from now on so she should dress the part even if she can’t be the part. She was after all now the Lady of the Delgado family.
Soon the high-class ladies of the city especially her age range would want to start interacting with her. Xavier had all these in mind but he did not know how he would be able to convince Jessica to change her entire wardrobe, style and even join the club of high-class ladies.
Xavier knew that even the older generation would such up to her because of the family she married into. He wondered if she would be able to handle it.
Not knowing what was going on in the head of Xavier sitting beside her, Jessica decided to use the ride to check on the status of things. Unlike yesterday when every Tim dick and Harry were cussing her out to be a gold digger and whore, now the majority came to her defense when her name came up.
Her name as a hashtag and keyword had gone down the search.
“Oh thank goodness” Jessica caught herself saying.
She had never been in such a situation and high school and culinary school didn’t prepare her for this. If someone had told her a month ago that she would be sitting in a luxurious car going to visit the business tycoon of the city in his hospital room as his granddaughter-in-law, she would have laughed and had a good-filled day.
But here she was on her way to go see Dawson who had requested for her to come.
“What do you think of coming cleaning to your grandfather,” Jessica asked.
She was not particularly good at keeping secrets and now that she was going to be standing before Dawson again and she was afraid she would spill without thinking. The best option for her was for Xavier to come clean and she supports him.
“Why?” Xavier asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Because I don’t feel too good about lying to such a good man,” Jessica said.
The truth was all she said. She didn’t enjoy lying and all the other cover ups that come with it.
“I can’t tell him, he’ll be disappointed and I may have to bury him before his time,” Xavier said without batting an eyelash.
“If you can’t keep your mouth should turn the car around?” he added.
“There would be no need for that” Jessica replied in a strained voice.
Xavier was overreacting and it was obvious even to the driver. What was there if they told the truth about their relationship to Dawson? She didn’t know him well but he seemed to be a sweet little old man.
The car comes to a slow halt at the entrance of the hospital reception.
“Let’s go in holding hands,” Jessica said and Xavier had a huge frown on her face.
“I thought we were still playing the romantic couple role?” she added when she saw his face.
She was just a normal girl there was no need for him to make such a face. Was he holding up a pile of maggots that the thoughts of holding hands troubled him so much?
“If you think what we did yesterday was enough then no need to hold hands,” Jessica said removing her seat belt.
She thought he only volunteered to come because he knew the reporters she currently saw from the rolled-up window were going to be there. Xavier had good foresight after all. He knew that the media would come to the hospital and that was why he came but she openly asked them to hold hands was shocking to him.
“No need to overthink this. If you don’t want to do it. Then don’t” Jessica said when she saw his face and the way it seemed his brain wheels were turning to create an excuse for her.
Xavier opened up the door and the reporters swarmed towards him when they noticed he was the one. He came around and opened up her side of the car door and stretched his hand to her. Oh, he was good. Here was the man supposedly said to never have had a girlfriend pulling all these tricks.
“Mr. Delgado, is it true that you had never met your wife before marriage?”
“Can you give us a short statement concerning the current news”
“When would the official church wedding be?”
The reporters were throwing all manners of questions at them today. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
Xavier holds Jessica’s hand firmly and he begins to take long strides to the hospital. Once they are inside the whole integration would stop. Jessica finds it difficult to keep up with his long strides.
They enter the hospital but Xavier doesn’t let go. The eyes of everyone is following them as they move toward the elevator.
“They won’t stop looking will they?” Jessica murmured so only Xavier could hear her.
“That’s why rumors are scary” Xavier whispered back.
Now that they were not running from the horrible pressure mounting questions of the media Jessica could finally feel the effect of what Xavier’s large warm hand was doing to the pit of her stomach.
She wanted to remove her hands because based on their relationship she should not be feeling that way.
They were husband and wife by the law. Was it wrong to kind of like your husband? Things like this only happened in movies but here she was living the storybook life.
His hand was warm and it sent a tingle down her spine. She shivered at the thought of his hands going all over her body. She shook herself for having such immoral thoughts.
“Are you cold?” Xavier whispered as the elevator opened up in front of them.
Everyone on it came down and Xavier pulled her inside with him.
“You did not respond,” He said again pushing the button to the twenty-fourth floor where the VIP rooms were before proceeding to press the do not disturb button so the elevator doesn’t stop at any floor.
“No I am not cold” Jessica responded.
Her mind was telling her to remove her hand from his but her heart just wanted that warmth.
“Are you sure?” He asked bending down to her level.
Now she could see him eye to eye. His deep blue eyes pierced her soul as shivers went down her spine to her feet.
