Chapter Thirteen
Chapter thirteen: Blessed Moon pack: aunt Marlene’s idea
Kai and Cassy got ready and began their journey that morning.
Kai had hired and footman so they were both sitting opposite each other in the carriage.
Cassy stared at her fingers, playing with them as silence reigned.
They had not spoken since they left the inn that morning. The silence was too suffocating and she felt like saying anything but she did not know what to say.
Cassy turned and stuck her head out of the window, resting it on the sill.
She watched as the beautiful green forest and landscape passed in a blur, making her think about home.
She missed her father and her step sister. She missed the fun moments she shared with her sister and wished the alpha would allow her to come over once they were back.
She wished she could visit home but the thought of her step mother scared her. She had finally been able to escape from her shackles and she knew she was upset about her leaving, she was sure that she was going to do anything to make her return back.
Kai watched the lady in front of him and found himself becoming curious about what she was thinking as she looked lost in her own world.
His thoughts drifted to the note he had found in her trunk. It was a letter to her father and step sister.
“I hope your mother is not being mean to you because of that issue?” he recalled a line.
He could not help but wonder about it. her family and what she might have been going through.
Kai watched as she stuck her hand out of the carriage, the sun shining directly on her and illuminating her skin.
He reached out and tried to touch her but retracted his hand.
No… He was not going to touch her.
His hand reached again and she turned immediately making him snatch his hand back quickly and look away like nothing happened.
He heard her sigh and he glanced at her but he quickly took his gaze away when he noticed she was looking at him too.
He wanted to slap himself and curse out his wolf for always caring about her.
For the moon’s sake, he had who he loved. His heart beat for her and no one else.
Kai looked at her and found her staring out of the window again.
He felt so awkward not speaking to her but still, he did not want to have anything to do with her.
He sighed and rest his head against the wall of the carriage, with his eyes closed.
He could not understand what was wrong with him especially since the trip began. He disliked her but ever since he had begun to find her cute and he hated it.
Was it because she was his mate?
Her scent disturbed him most of the time and he was sure it was because of his wolf. Initially, his wolf had accepted Isabella but when she showed up he and his wolf had always been in conflict.
He let out a breath through his lips. He really needed to go back to the palace. He could not wait to be in Isabella’s arms again.
Cassy on the other hand could not help but wonder what he was thinking about as she could feel his gaze on her at intervals.
Natalia kept clawing her head to speak to him but she tried to chastise her by reminding her that she wanted to keep her mouth shut and teach herself not to bother him no matter how she was bored or how much questions she wanted to ask him.
Kai opened his eyes and stuck his bead out of the window.
Looking ahead, his eyes travelled to the gate of the Blessed Moon pack.
Although it was still far off, he was glad that they had arrived finally after many days of journeying.
“Brace yourself for we have arrived. Look ahead and–” he raised his head up and found her head tilted slightly to the side, her mouth opened a little bit with her eyes closed and soft sounds escaping her lips.
Kai shook his head to get rid of the thought that was creeping into his head.
Not long after, the carriage entered the pack’s territory. After a security check at the gate and having a guard follow them, the carriage was let in and they were led to the palace.
Kai looked around mesmerized by how much the pack had changed. It’s been years since he last visited and he could not help but note that there were a lot of new developments but they were not anywhere close to Night Walker pack’s.
He could not wait to meet the Luna and ask questions and most of all, explore the pack.
The carriage stopped in front of the palace. Kai looked at Cassy who was still asleep and shook his head.
How weak… he thought.
The footman opened the door and bowed slightly, holding the door open.
Kai scooped her up into his arms and could not help but chuckle at how light she was as he took the small stairs placed by the footman down the carriage.
“May I help, your highness?” the guard gestured to the small woman in his arms.
Kai’s words betrayed the conflicting thoughts in his head as he physically shook his head.
“No, I can handle it. Get people to take care of the trunks,” he spoke softly.
The guard bowed and left quickly.
Kai moved into the palace building and headed to the Luna’s chamber. He was a little bit surprised that he still knew his way around without getting lost.
He was almost at her chamber when he saw her. She was still as beautiful if not more beautiful than how he recalled her to be with her blonde mane and grey eyes that stood out.
She was Marlene, the Luna of the Blessed Moon pack and his mother’s younger sister. The only family he knew and was closer to since his mother’s death.
“Oh moon goddess, I really hope I am still not in the dreamland. Is it Kai I am seeing?” she asked aloud, making a smile appear on Kai’s lips.
“Certainly not, your highness,” he replied still smiling.
She squinted her eyes and took her head in. “You stubborn kid, I have told you several times not to call me that,” she hit his shoulder playfully.
It was then she noticed that he had someone in his arms. Her lips curved into a smile, she glanced at the lady and raised her eyebrows at him as if to ask him something silently.
Kai chuckled. “What goes on in your head?”
“Perhaps she is a companion?” the lady raised her left eyebrow.
He groaned. “Don’t tell me you are not aware?”
“Aware of what? What would I know when you have refused to come to visit me for years now,” she faked a frown.
Kai rolled his eyes.
“My arms are going weak,” his face contorted into one that showed weakness and Luna smiled. “Lead the way and I would tell you,”
“Thank goddess! You finally find your mate,” exclaimed Marlene as he laid her on the bed and she covered her with a quilt.
“It’s nothing to merry about,” he huffed and glanced at the lady sprawled on the bed.
“Why? Because she is an omega?” she asked and sighed when he did not reply. “I presumed that you have always wanted a mate. You have finally found her now you do not want her?”
“She is not just an omega but a weak person!” he raised his voice and sighed to calm himself down. “I am aware that after mother… I wanted a companion but after seeing how father became I told the moon goddess that if I ever had a mate she had to be strong but then she decided to punish me–”
“Stop it you fool!” Marlene yelled and he flinched.
He looked at her and found her eyes filled with tears that were threatening to spill. He exhaled and tried to reach out to her but she moved away slightly.
Kai exhaled again and looked away.
“Follow me,” she spoke and walked out of the room without waiting for his reply. Her maids followed behind her.
Kai ran his fingers through his hair and glanced at Cassy before walking out of the room.
Marlene led him to her bed chambers and she stood facing the garden that was built for her just outside of the chambers.
“Marlene, do not blame me–”
“Then who should I blame!? The moon goddess!?” she screamed angrily.
Kai sensed her anger and lowered his head, refusing to speak. He knew that if he should speak more than that, he was going to make her go berserk.
A pregnant silence followed. The air was thick with anger and conflicting thoughts that were swirling in their heads.
“Did you reject her?” Marlene asked after a while.
“If I had done so would she–” he was interrupted by her.
“Answer the question!”
“No,”
“Why? Or are you planning to?” she poured herself tea as she sat.
Kai exhaled. “We made a pact. Apparently, she does not want to return home,” he bit his lower lip and glanced at Marlene who gestured for him to sit. “I can have as many wives and concubines as possible, I can even mark another but I cannot reject her.” he spilled.
Marlene wanted to smile. That lady was no ordinary, she was definitely smart but however, she feared something.
She bit her inner cheek. “And you did?”
Kai hesitated to reply as he did not know what to say but his silence already answered his aunt.
She took in a deep breath. “I am so disappointed in you Kai. I cannot believe you would do such a thing, is she aware and who is she?”
Kai shook his head. “I am afraid not. My wolf would not permit me,” he exhaled. He had been doing so too often lately.
“She is the theta’s assistant at the palace,”
“What? So she lives there?” she asked and Kai nodded.
Oh no. Her fear has been confirmed.
She could not find the words to say and she knew that no matter what she told the head strong nephew of hers nothing was going to change. All she had to do was only one thing.
Try to bring them together.
“Fear not. I am not going to talk you out of anything,” Kai smiled. “But, you know your uncle and I know my husband,”
Kai nodded.
His aunt’s husband was another person he was close to. He had to be the greatest person –besides his father– he knew. He always tried to listen to him and not disobey him.
As much as sweet he was so he was cruel.
“He hates things like this so…” she paused and he raised his head to look at her.
“You would have to leave in the same room as her.” she finished.
“What!?” he exclaimed, his eyes wide on his head.
Kai like his head was spinning and was about to pull off from his neck. His wolf leapt for joy inside of him almost making him growl in anger.
What was there to be happy about?
Marlene almost laughed out loud when she saw his jaw tick in anger and the vein on his head move.
She knew he wanted to say something rude or cruel when he opened his mouth but was trying hard to control his rage as he closed his mouth and shut his eyes.
Oh, the moon goddess. He was beginning to get sick of this place. If only he could escape.
But he knew better not to offend the couple. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Marlene smirked as she saw him open his eyes and a fake smile plastered on his face.
“As you wish, your highness,” he said through gritted teeth, bowing.
“Good lad,” she tried to smile but failed and ended up smirking.
Oh her poor little nephew. She was so going to enjoy doing this.
