EPISODE 48 A toast to the couple
MOON STONE PACK
Two hours has passed into the reception party. The couple already danced with families and friends and they have gone into the crowds to say a thank you and exchanged pleasantries to some of their families and friends. Even enough food and drinks were available on all the tables. Several guests had more than enough as the ushers walked around with plates in the hall to the various seats.
The master of ceremony called at the guests attention for the best man time to make a toast to the newly wedded couple. The best man is the only person who is traditionally expected to make a toast to the bride and groom.
Carl stood at the center of the room where all the guests could see him. He cleared his throat as the master of ceremony gave him the microphone with a bow. A server came around and gave him a glass of wine too.
The best man started off by introducing himself. “I am Carl Damien, the alpha of moon stone pack and I am also standing before you all on this special day as the best man of this wedding. I welcome everyone to this great pack and thank you for attending and supporting the couple in whatever way. Julius is like a brother to me and we grew up together in this same pack and same goes for his bride.” He glanced back at the couple.
“I remember how scared Julius was when my father made it known that he would take on the position of being the Beta. He went missing in action for days.” Some guests in the hall laughed when the alpha did a funny gesture of a wolf hiding on a tree.
The alpha chuckled. “So I looked for my best friend for a couple of days until I found him on a tree conversing with a parrot. He did that because he had no idea how to be a beta.”
Hazel giggled next to her mate. “Well I managed to persuade and get him down from the tree and I brought him back to the pack. The Gammas spoke to him and just one thing served as an encouragement to take on the position. The fact that there are other big wolves who could fill the position but the alpha wanted just him. And making it to the history of the wolves as the youngest wolf to be a beta at barely eighteen is a big achievement.” Some of the guests nodded their heads in agreement. Virtually everyone in the hall knew Beta Julius so well.
“And behold he has been doing a great job as a beta for more than a decade now. I don’t think I would have loved any other person to be my beta. Just you and only you, Julius. Thank you for putting in all your best for the development of this pack.” Carl turned back and smiled at his best friend. Everyone clapped until the alpha raised his glass up to end it.
“Please make sure your glasses are filled as you join me in toasting to the new couple.” They all raised their glasses up in the air.
“Ladies and gentlemen, here is a toast to a perfectly mated couple. We make a toast to a long life together filled with happiness, adventure and lists of wonderful memories. May your heart be warm and happy with the lilts of loud laughter everyday in every way and forever and ever.” He turned to look at the couple. “May you grow old together on one pillow. And finally I pray the moon goddess guide your paths together. To the bride and groom!” Carl said loudly as he faced the guests.
“To the bride and groom!” They chorused and the responses echoed throughout the hall.
Then the couple moved on to cutting the five tiers wedding cake. All the guests merry, laughed, chatted in groups, ate and drank. The wedding was a blast! Everyone seemed to be having a great time but Meagan’s eyes was busy looking around for the alpha.
After the toast she had seen him slip into the crowd to greet some people that seemed to be of high profiles. Once again she was left with no choice than to mingle and chat with only Jones who was interested in what she would be doing when she returned back home.
“Work.” Meagan had simply replied him in a polite manner.
And Jones went on to ask if all she ever did was work at the hospital and she said, “Yes, my top priority in life is my work. As a medical doctor saving lives comes first.”
Soon her eyes spotted the alpha in the crowd, he was surrounded by other people and she recognized just one person – Joanna, the bridesmaid who had attached herself to the alpha during rehearsal. Some of the guys has strikingly resemblance with the alpha and she assumed they are his cousins.
Pangs of jealousy stirred within her as she watched Joanna smiling brightly at some four older women. Meagan was sure that this lady had introduced herself to them from the way the old ladies conversed freely with her.
Meagan was envious of the fact that Joanna was free to meet Carl’s family while she can’t even dare to approach him at that moment. She wondered if the alpha would have introduced her to some of his family members like Jones had done if they weren’t on an agreement to keep things private.
Meagan fiddled with her fingers under the table as she reminded herself that all she had with the alpha was just a fling. And she should erase every thoughts of having anything serious with someone as powerful as an alpha of the best werewolf pack.
Jones was interrupted by a cellphone ringtone when he was about to remind Meagan about the dinner plans. Meagan’s head snapped up to the familiar sound and she reached out for her cellphone in her handbag.
It was a call from her elder sister. She stood up knowing that the loud music would distract her from hearing her sister’s words over the phone. It was rare for Penelope to call her but whenever she does – something must have happened. Good news or bad news, Penelope would always call to share it. Meagan hoped it was good news about her brother in law probably buying his wife a new car and not her niece or nephew falling off the stairs again.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
“I’ll be right back, Jones. I need to answer this call.” Meagan said before rushing off with the plan of heading straight to the garden she had ate with the warlord on Halloween night just to receive the call.
