Chapter 200 Suspicions
Chapter 200 Suspicions
Jean frowned and stopped cleaning vegetables. She turned to face Zed.
"She told you she has someone in her heart?" Jean asked cautiously.
"No. I sensed that myself. Jesse was shocked as well. It almost felt as though she didn't know whether
or not she fancied someone." Zed sighed as he exclaimed, "Any person trapped in love is blind. Jean, I
am so lucky to have you. We love each other and we are sincere. We are so blessed!"
Zed encircled Jean's waist and pulled her close for a hug. He planted a gentle kiss on her head and
closed his eyes as contentment filled him.
Jean was touched by Zed's sentimental confession. She put away her suspicions regarding Jessie
temporarily. She smiled as she spoke, "Zed, I am lucky to have you as well."
Zed opened his eyes and stared at her beautiful face. Jean's genuine smile had lit up her face. Her
eyes sparkled as well. Desire flamed inside Zed.
Jean saw the lust in Zed's eyes and flushed. She pushed him away gently. It would not be good for
them to think about intimate matters at a time like this. Jean still had to finish preparing dinner. She
stepped away from Zed to place a little distance between them. Then she sighed and said, "OK, you
need to leave the kitchen now so that I can start cooking."
Zed pouted as he asked, "Why can't you let Zelda do the cooking today?" Jean giggled when she saw
Zed's expression. This was one of the rare times that Jean had seen Zed pouting like a child. And she
found the expression funny.
"It is OK, " Jean said dismissively, "I am in the mood to cook. Let me make something special for
Jesse." Jean insisted.
"All right. What can I do to help then?" Zed asked in resignation. It seemed as though Jean was
determined to make Jesse feel welcome.
"Nothing. You need to stay in the living room so that I can finish quickly. I won't be long." Jean pushed
him out of the kitchen with a playful smile. She walked Zed to the couch and gently pushed him down.
She even handed him a financial periodical! "Read this. I will call you when dinner is ready."
Still giggling, Jean hurried back to the kitchen.
Zed opened the magazine and began flipping through it to pass time. He loved how considerate Jean
could be. Although he was a little disappointed that he couldn't spend more time with her, he was
happy at the idea that Jean was making this effort for Jesse.
Once back in the kitchen, Jean busied herself with dinner preparation. But she was a little distracted.
She couldn't help pondering over what Zed had shared with her.
'Jesse has somebody in her heart?
Who was this person?
Could it be Zed?
Or could it be someone else?'
She remembered the night that Zed was on call with Jesse. He kept comforting her and he had been
asking her not to cry. He even assured her that they could speak about whatever was upsetting Jesse
once she came over.
'What had Jesse been upset about? Did Zed and Jesse talk about it?
Could it be that Jesse had faced a setback in her relationship and needed Zed's advice?'
Jean tilted her head as she became lost in contemplation.
'It couldn't be Zed if Jesse came to him for advice, right?'
Thinking of this, Jean blinked in relief. She had wondered about the relationship between Zed and
Jesse all this while. And Jesse did behave as though she was close with Zed. Her conclusion that
Jesse had feelings for Zed seemed natural. Jean hadn't known how tense she was until her shoulders
relaxed.
That was it? Whom else could she suspect?
Didn't Jesse tell her that she regarded Zed as her brother when they were in the garden?
Jean thought back to their conversation. She had learned that Jesse and Zed had been close friends
since childhood. As with many childhood friends Jean knew, love had blossomed over time. However
that didn't mean that the same would happen between Jesse and Zed.
At least such wasn't the case with Zed. Jean knew that he loved her and only her.
A content smile grew on Jean's face and her heart swelled with love for Zed when she thought of him.
Feeling the need to be close to Zed, Jean busied herself with dinner. The quicker she finished cooking,
the faster she could be with him.
After Jean placed all the dishes on the table, she walked to the living room. A frown grew on her face
when she realized that Jesse had still not come down. She walked closer to Zed and asked, "If Jesse
hasn't come down yet, should I go fetch her?"
"Okay." Zed nodded as he put away the periodical. He watched Jean's slender figure climb the stairs.
Her swaying hips caught his attention and Zed felt as though he could not stop gazing. After Jean
disappeared from his sight, Zed sighed, stood, and walked to the dinning room.
A huge grin grew on Zed's face when she saw all the delicious food Jean had prepared for them. He
looked forward to being able to taste all the prepared dishes.
Once Jean reached upstairs, she walked toward the guest room.
The door was closed. Jean stepped forward and knocked on the door, "Jesse, are you there? Dinner is
ready. You can come down to eat now." This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Jean waited for a moment but there was no reply. She was puzzled.
Jean was about to knock again but the door flew open. Jean frowned when she saw Jesse's face. Her
eyes were puffy and her makeup was ruined. 'Had she been crying?' Jean wondered.
"Jesse, what happened?" Jean was shocked and asked with concern.
'It was only dinner time. How could Jesse look so haggard at this time of the evening? Something must
have been bothering her, which is why she looks so worn-out.'
Jesse wasn't sure that she had the strength to speak without breaking down again. And so, Jesse
pressed her lips in a thin line, and just stared at Jean.
"Did something happen?" Jean prompted Jesse gently.
'Does this have something to do with the person she likes?
What on earth did Zed say to her that made her react like this?'
Several questions ran through Jean's mind but she felt as though this was not the right time to be
asking Jesse since she had clamped up. She just stared at Jean and shook her head.
"Jesse, if you have any trouble, you can always tell either me or Zed." Jean said sincerely.
"Thank you, Jean." Jesse finally said with bitterness. "I am fine. Did I worry you?"
"Are you sure you are fine?" Jean was still worried.
Anyone could see that the smile on Jesse's face was not genuine.
"I am fine. Really. I'm sorry for having worried you." Jesse shook her head and tried to look cheerful.
"Let's go downstairs to eat. I am starving."
Jesse didn't wait for Jean's response. She just brushed past Jean as she made her way downstairs.
Jean was even more worried now. She clenched the hem of her clothes and felt uncomfortable.
She could do nothing if Jesse didn't want to tell her what was bothering her.
After the three sat down, to Jean's relief, Jesse's cheerful smile seemed sincere. The dinner went well,
sprinkled with polite conversation, some laughs, and stories.
After dinner, Jean brought fruits from kitchen. Jesse and Zed were already sitting on the sofa chatting
casually. Jean joined them.
"Jean, are you going to work tomorrow?" Jesse raised her head to look at Jean and asked suddenly.
"Yes." Jean nodded, still chewing the fruit in her mouth. "I have taken two days off. If I don't show up at
work tomorrow, I will definitely be fired."
"That wouldn't be so bad, " Jesse said with a laugh. "Zed wouldn't mind at all because he would get to
spend more time with you. Am I right, Zed?" Jesse looked at Zed with a playful smile as she
commented.
"You spoke for my heart, but photography is Jean's dream. I cannot ruin her dream." Zed sighed in
resignation.
"There is a solution, you know. Since Jean likes photography, you can help her to open a studio." Jesse
suggested.
"No, no." Jean waved her hand hurriedly. "I am not so capable, and I don't have enough experience
yet. Zed, please don't help me."
"Okay. But you know that Jesse was just joking, right?" Seeing that Jean had become worried, Zed
tried to comfort her, "Don't worry. I know that you cherish the opportunity to study with Sonny. I will
support your choice."
Jean smiled after hearing Zed's words.
Zed truly understood her. He always knew what she wanted most.
