Chapter 273
Chapter 273
Jerome frowned.
“Mikayla, why are you dragging Kylie into this? What does this have to do with her? I investigated because you were eager to find out about the truth.”
Mikayla scoffed and remained silent.
He was infuriated. “Never mind your nonsense back then, but how could you say that in front of Dad earlier? When did I ever show the intention of marrying Kylie?” NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Mikayla mused about what happened in her previous life. He actually divorced her to marry Kylie. He even prevented her from leaving the mental hospital, worried that she might jeopardize their wedding.
She knew Jerome had yet to discover his feelings for Kylie because she hadn’t been causing that much trouble. Clearly, she couldn’t tell him this, so she brought up what happened a few days ago.
“When you drank the drugged lentil soup Grandma sent last time, didn’t you go to Kylie after I rejected
you?”
Jerome barked out a sardonic laughter. “Mikayla, do you think I’m an immoral jerk who’ll fuck another woman when I’m already married?”
Normal men wouldn’t, but he never had any feelings for Mikayla. She wasn’t certain what he’d do once he was drugged. She hadn’t heard from him during those two days, after all. The next thing she knew was the post she saw on Kylie’s social media.
Jerome saw right through her thoughts. Cupping her chin forcefully, he gritted out, “I went to the hospital. Do you need me to show you the medical records?”
Mikayla yanked his hand away. “I don’t want to see them. I told you, that’s none of my concern.”
He was seething. “Mikayla, you told Aubrey to cause a scene back then because you thought I was with Kylie during those few days?
“Kylie said Mr. White wanted to thank me over a meal, but he left when I arrived. That’s why she was the
only one there! Since you were so bothered by it, to the extent that you were goading Aubrey to cause a scene, why didn’t you just ask me instead?”
Mikayla was getting worked up as well. “I didn’t instruct Aubrey to do that. She framed me!”
Jerome kept quiet, clearly not believing her.
She couldn’t help but sneer. “You don’t believe me, do you? You tell me to tell the truth, but you don’t trust me when I do. What’s the point of all this, then?”
He pressed his lips together and muttered, “I’ll look into this.”
“No need.” Mikayla regained her composure. “It doesn’t matter at this point. I’ve done something similar in the past, after all. It’s completely understandable for you to doubt me.”
*Jerome, I know you’re reluctant to file a divorce. But ask yourself truthfully, how long is our marriage going to last even if I don’t propose a divorce?”
His expression faltered. “I’ve never mentioned wanting to divorce you.”
“Of course. You wouldn’t have brought it up.”
A mocking sneer spread across Mikayla’s face. “You’ll just put me in a difficult spot with your coldness and contempt toward me until I can no longer bear it. I’ll either cause you a lot of trouble, or I’ll just opt for
a divorce.
“No matter what I do, you’re always right. Don’t you think that’s even worse than bringing up a divorce?”
“I told you, I’ll try my best to fulfill your requirements from now on.” Jerome’s eyes bore into hers. “And you clearly have feelings for me. We don’t have to go as far as getting a divorce.”
Unfazed, Mikayla confessed, “I admit that I can’t just get rid of my feelings for you after all these years,
but I can’t endure this any longer with the amount of affection I have for you.
“Jerome, I’m tired of this. I really don’t want to get involved with you anymore. If you even have a sliver of
guilt or affection for me, please just sign the divorce agreement and get this over with quickly.”
Jerome stared at her before he tossed the ointment for her wrist to her. He rose and left promptly.
A stab of frustration pierced through her as she held onto the ointment. He still hadn’t agreed to her
terms despite her brusqueness.
