Self-Improvement
Improving oneself after being hit by many calamities, that’s what a person should do in the face of such a cruel world.

The clouds that were once white with a blue sky accompanied by the sun, suddenly turned into cloudy clouds that seemed ready to spill everything contained in them. Just like the mood of a tall man who lives in a 14th floor apartment. He is now ready with a dark brown hodie suit and black training pants, intending to get out of the apartment.
He intended to look for his friend who suddenly disappeared from his sight this morning. He was worried about his friend. How could he not be worried? He couldn’t see, but he dared to walk around without him. Just yesterday she almost had another accident if someone didn’t help her. How much more so now? The tall man’s thoughts went everywhere thinking about his friend.
He cursed himself, why didn’t he wake up earlier today? In fact, the one who woke up first was his best friend, but usually the friend always informs him if he wants to go anywhere, but this is not. Even his cell phone was left in his apartment room. Where exactly is that rancid boy? He thought. He searched all sides of the apartment, but did not find his friend’s nose. Suddenly the tall man remembered something his friend had said at the club yesterday.
“Let it go, Ris! No one cares about me! I’ve had enough of my life, even if I die, I’ll never regret it!”
“Shit! Looks like she’s out of her mind! Maybe she’s done something crazy out there! No, this can’t be allowed! I’ll look for her immediately!” Just as the door opened, Haris’ eyes bulged. It turned out that his best friend was already standing in front of the apartment door.
“Oh my!” Haris squinted while stroking his chest in shock at the sight of his best friend standing in front of him.
“Gif, where have you been? I looked for you all over this room, but you were not there,” Haris’ question was not immediately answered by the Empress who was still standing calmly.
“Don’t you want to let me in first?” It was Gifer who asked him back. Haris just nodded while pulling Gifer’s hand into the apartment.
Inside the apartment, they sat on the living room chairs.
“Tell me, where did you come from?” Haris asked once again, asking for an explanation to his friend who was now sitting on his right.
“I met the girl who saved me from death yesterday,” Gifer said that but did not face the other person. Haris directed Gifer to face him.
“I thought that girl you were referring to was a figment of your drunken imagination, Gif,”
“No, but she really exists and is real. It’s just that I can’t see her. I can only hear her voice,” Gifer put on a glum expression.
“Oh should I believe what you’re saying, Gifer Fernandez?” because Haris thought it made no sense, making him trust Gifer less.
“Well, whatever you want to believe or not. What I know is that he’s always there when I’m in trouble,” still speaking casually without knowing that the Friend was worried.
“Really? What kind of trouble did you get into earlier?”
“Actually, I, earlier I intended to commit suicide on a bridge under which there is a very swift river. But that girl blocked it, damn it!” Hearing Gifer’s words that ended with a curse made Haris widen his eyes as wide as possible.
“What! You’re out of your mind, Gif! No wonder you didn’t bring your cell phone or wallet, whereas usually when you go out you always bring your cell phone and wallet, eh it turns out you’re planning to kill yourself? You’re crazy! Still lucky that girl saved you, if not? I’d already be in trouble for being questioned by your parents! You didn’t think that through, huh?” Haris still couldn’t think of anything to say to his best friend, it was so unpredictable. I don’t know where he got the thought from. He didn’t expect what Gifer had done today.
“Yes, I’m crazy, just like you said. But I have no other choice. I can’t do anything anymore without being able to see, Ris. Let alone work, it’s useless, it’s a nuisance. I’d rather just die, right? But that girl stopped me, she said I don’t believe in the wonders of the world and God. What is that? If God really exists, why did he take away my eyes, right?” Haris got up from his seat, intending to get a soda from the refrigerator.
“Huh… at least you can do something useful for others, Gif. As for the matter of God, that’s what each person believes in,” As he opened the refrigerator, a question from Gifer stopped his attention.
“Do you believe in God, Ris?” Haris immediately took two sodas, walked over, and sat next to Gifer again.
“As for believing, my parents never taught me anything about God. How do I know, do you believe or not?” Haris asked Gifer again.
“People ask questions, ask questions back,” annoyed Gifer who had put on his flat face expression.
“Yes, I answered earlier, Bambang,”
“Bambang who?”
“You!”
“I’m Gifer, not Bambang, by the way! I told Mr. Bambang, you’re dead,”
“Back to the laptop, believe it or not?”
“Yes, just like you,”
“What?”
“More like disbelief, plus he took my eyes, my lover, and my job. I still can’t accept that!”
“Well, instead of getting complicated, let’s have a soda first!” Haris thrust the can of soda he had opened earlier in front of Gifer. Gifer took it and started drinking the soda.
“Did you have breakfast?” Gifer shook his head.
“Not yet.”
“Let’s go out to eat!”

The clouds were getting blacker and blacker, until droplets of rain began to fall on the ground where many people were running to get to their destinations before more rain fell. Same with what Belvina was doing right now. Running to get to her workplace as soon as possible. Anggi, who had arrived at work earlier, looked at Belvina’s teller desk. But it’s still empty, the person hasn’t arrived yet. She thought.
“Where is Vina? How could she not come to the office right away after making enemies with me?” Anggi began to worry. Not waiting long, Belvina arrived at her bank teller desk. She immediately prepared herself for work. Belvina’s gaze turned to Anggi who was to the right of her desk.
“I’m not late, am I?” She asked Anggi.
“No, just relax. There are no customers yet, it’s quiet today,” Anggi responded casually.
“Yes, be patient Gi, maybe there will be some later.”
“You’re not mad at me anymore?” Anggi just wanted to make sure that her best friend was no longer angry with her. It was true, she was very grateful for that.
“Why would I be mad at you? You’re my best friend, I’m not mad at you.”
“Not angry at what? Just yesterday you yelled at me,” Anggi quipped while moving her lips playfully.
“Hehehe, it’s because I’m curious about what you’ve been hiding. I just don’t want any more secrets between us, Anggi,”
“Yeah, you’re right, Vin. Thank you for not being mad at me anymore,”
“Yes, you’re welcome.”
“We’ll go home together, right?” Anggi asked.
“Mm, but I want to look for books at the central library first.”
“What for?”
“You know that I like collecting novels, so I’m just going to look there. Who knows if there’s anything that catches my eye,”
“Ah, okay. Let’s go there later.”

At a restaurant, around 9:30 KST, Gifer and Haris had just enjoyed their meal. After just a few mouthfuls and chewing his food, Haris’ words distracted him.
“Gif, I suggest you, if you still want to live, learn to read in braille,” Haris suggested by putting one piece of meat soup into his mouth.
“What, braille? What is that?” asked Gifer with a frown on his forehead hearing that.
“Special ones for blind people like you to be able to read.”
“Then what does it matter if I can read or not? My talent is sewing dolls, not reading.”
“Gosh, where has the smart brain of GF Corp’s CEO been all this time? Ever since the accident you’ve gotten weird Gif, I swear. It doesn’t feel like you. Maybe your life was switched with someone else?”
Plak!
“Talking out of turn,” Gifer lightly tapped Haris’ arm on his left.
“Yes, because you always reject what I suggest. As your best friend, I can only give advice. If you don’t want to, that’s fine too. Whatever, but since I’m now unemployed, I’ll find a job in another company without needing you anymore,” Haris’ last sentence felt like a threat to Gifer. What if his best friend left him too? His life would be even more miserable, he thought.
Gifer who heard that suddenly widened his eyes. No, Haris couldn’t leave him, he still needed that tall man. He had lost his eyes, lost his lover, and lost his job. He didn’t want to lose his best friend too. The best friend who had accompanied him from zero. From Gifer was still in middle school to becoming a CEO. Even when he was no longer the CEO, Haris still cared for him. How bad was that tall man to him? Friends but already like family.
“No!” Haris who heard the man next to him shouting was surprised because he was in the position where he was feeding the soup into his mouth.
“What’s wrong with you huh? You look like you’re in a trance,”
“You can’t leave me. Alright, I’ll follow what you want!” broke up Gifer.
“What? The one about work?”
“No, the one about reading with braille,”
“Oh that, alright. After this we go straight to the Jakarta Central Library. There’s a reading trainer for braille,”
“Seriously after this?”
“Yes, yes, next year?”
“Why so soon? You can do it tomorrow.”
“If you delay it, it won’t get done, Mr. Gifer Fernandez,”
“Hah, yes yes, alright.” Gifer could only obey and Haris who was already smiling saw Gifer who became excited again.

At the Jakarta Central Library, Belvina and Anggi intended to find a romance novel that would make them feel good if they read it. But neither of them could find the novel they wanted.
“Vin, have you found the novel you were looking for?” Asked Anggi who was curious about the novel Belvina was referring to.
“Not yet, Anggi. I wonder where the library staff keep the romance novels?”
“Try it, you look in that corner and I’ll look in this corner!” Anggi ordered.
“Okay.”
Belvina walked to the place Anggi had directed her to, and she found it. But the novel was located on the top shelf where even Belvina’s height would not reach to pick it up. Belvina took a small ladder in the library to reach one of the romance novels.
“Yep, I finally found a romance novel too. Just read it first, don’t you think the story is good?”
She read it on the small staircase, until unexpectedly the small staircase she stepped on earlier missed, Belvina’s body wavered right in front of a man who happened to pass by the corner.”Uh, what’s with these stairs?”
BRUK!
“AKH!”
As a result Belvina and the man both fell down with Belvina on top of the man with their lips touching.
