Chapter 33 Run Out on Wife and Daughter
She needs money while Edison has his own plans. No matter what his ultimate goal was, they were each taking what they wanted. Looking at the cerulean blue sky, she took a deep breath and walked toward the nearest subway station.
It was exactly 4 p.m. when she arrived at the community. She had no idea if Ursula had arrived.
Trotting hurriedly, when she was about to reach the Duplex, she noticed a black car parked at the entrance of the building, almost blocking the pavement. The driver seemed to be very immoral.
She threw side glances at it, assuming that there was no one in the car. Just when she passed beside the car, someone opened the front door.
"Gwen." Immediately, a voice resounded behind her. She turned her head back in surprise and stared at the owner of the voice. It was a cultured middle-aged gentleman dressed in a suit getting out of the car.
Noticing the man, Gwenyth's expression turned colder. She didn't expect him to come. Whatever the man had become, she could still recognize him!
"I'm your dad," Martin trudged toward her, raising his hand excitedly while wanting to caress her head. Yet, she dodged it.
"You've got the wrong person, my dad is dead."
"Your mother told you that?"
"Sir, I don't know you." Gwenyth wanted no more conversation with him. She turned around and walked into the building, climbed the stairs two steps at a time, and quickly reached to the fifth floor.
Just when she took out the key from her backpack and was about to open the door, Martin chased after her and snatched her key. Although he was in his forties, he could still run up to the fifth floor without panting.
"What are you doing?"
"Gwen, I know you recognize me." Martin opened the door with the key while speaking to her, then pushed her into the house. It was stuffy inside, not much cooler than outside.
Martin put the key on the shoe cabinet at the door, observing this small and old house. Within seconds, tears began to dwell in his eyes.
"Did you two live in such a broken place all these years, while hiding yourself from me?"
Gwenyth was triggered by his words. "It's none of your business. Please leave here at once, you're not welcome here. If you don't, I'll call the police immediately."
Martin looked at her helplessly, not being angry with her, but patiently asked, "Your mother took you to run around. I've been searching for you for a long time. Every time when I got the news about both of you, you moved again before you were found. It has been four years. How long are you planning to hide from me?"
"Hiding from you?" Gwenyth sneered, "Do you think we're hiding from you?"
"You keep moving out from one place to another, doesn't it mean that you don't want me to find you?"
"Hah, don't flatter yourself. Don't forget, you're the one who kicked us out. How on earth could you still have the impudence to find us?"
"Did your mother tell you that?"
"Well, are you going to deny it?"
Martin fell silent for a long time after listening to her words. Indeed, he couldn't deny that Ursula who was carrying two children with her was being kicked out from the Engles by his parents. The more he knew how embarrassed she was when she left, the more painful he was.
Yet, he was the only son of the Engles and was going to inherit his family business. His parents gave him an ultimatum- compensate them with money and sent them away.
However, Ursula was a stubborn one! She refused to accept the compensation. In the end, his parents drove out both his wife and daughter while he was away. At that time, Gwen was only two years old, while Susie wasn't even reached one month old.
Later, when he approached them and wanted to give them compensation, Ursula refused to see him. So, the money was given to her older brother.
He thought that with that money, they could live a better life. After all, they were his woman and children, and he was still secretly sending someone to watch them.
Unexpectedly, the money he gave was taken by Ursula's older brother who was a gambling addict, and Ursula ended up working as a nutritionist for the Yates family.
Knowing that he still cared about them, his parents asked him to make a choice- whether to inherit the Engles or choose them. At that time, he had already married, and his wife gave birth to son and a daughter for him, what else could he choose?
He chose to compromise and didn't pay attention to them for a while. And when he decided to know their situation later, they had already disappeared from his sight.
"Why are you not talking now?" Gwenyth stared at him with deep contempt.
"Should I remind you of the fact that the Engles value sons over daughters? Just because my mother gave birth to two daughters and failed to give birth to a son, you ended up driving us out ruthlessly?" From NôvelDrama.Org.
Martin gave a disapproving look upon listening to her words. The words she spoke were matter-of- fact slapping him right to his face.
"Let's don't mention the past anymore, I just want to know if you guys are doing well."
Gwenyth looked around and asked him back sarcastically while throwing up her hands "What do you think?"
Martin hurriedly took out an envelope from the inner pocket of his suit and handed it to her, "There's a check with one million dollars inside, take it first."
"One million dollars?" Gwenyth couldn't hold back her laughter and laughed out. Her biological father who had abandoned her for twenty years suddenly came and gave her merely one million dollars just to try to heal her broken heart?
"Mr. Engles, are you kidding?"
She didn't reach out to receive that envelope. In fact, she pointed at the door behind him and growled, "Get out of here, RIGHT NOW."
She was glad that Ursula wasn't home at this time. If she noticed that Martin was here, she would surely be experiencing an emotional breakdown.
"Gwen, I know one million dollars isn't much. Get this check first, I'll send you more money afterward." The man stepped forward and tried to force the envelope into her hand.
She waved his hand away in annoyance, "Take your dirty money and leave at once."
"Don't be so stubborn, Gwen. Look at this house you're living in, the environment is too harsh for you."
He persuaded Gwenyth anxiously while putting the envelope on the coffee table. Before Gwenyth could react, he interrupted, "I'm aware of Susie's condition. She needs to see a doctor."
"Don't fake your mercy here."
If he really cared about them, how come he didn't care about them for the past twenty years?
"Over these years, there was not even a single moment did you do your responsibility as a father. Don't you think it's a little late for you to pretend now?" She picked up the check on the table and tore it up in front of Martin.
"By the way, your daughter stalked me in her car last night and tried to run me over!"
Halted, Martin asked, "What are you talking about?"
"If you don't believe me, you can go home and ask your precious daughter and see what she says."
"Luna couldn't have done such a thing, she doesn't even know your existence."
At this moment, Martin had become flustered. "You're following your mother, spreading rumors all around. I knew that she failed to bring you two up properly."
"Being a bastard having run out on his wife and daughter, who are you to say that my mother is a failure?"
Throwing death glances at him with bloodshot eyes, Gwenyth ran into the kitchen, grabbed the broom, and rushed out.
Martin's heart skipped a beat while seeing her waving the broom to him as if trying to hit him over. He hurriedly pushed the door open and retreated.
Gwenyth took the opportunity to close the door. She shouted angrily at him through the door, "Leave now. If you don't, I'll call the police. If things get into big trouble, you'll be the only one to lose face anyway."
