Chapter 611

With Kirk’s help, a sumptuous lunch was quickly brought to the table.

Marietta looked at the food on the table in shock. “I wouldn’t have believed that you had made this yourself if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.”

In particular, Kirk had helped out in making this meal. Marietta couldn’t bring herself to believe that he was a family man in private.

“Here’s our home–cooked meal. Give it a try.” Caroline looked at Marietta expectantly.

Marietta took a bite and gave a thumbs–up.

“It’s so delicious! I dare say that this is the best meal I’ve ever had. And your cooking is just like my mother’s. Her cooking was the best. Too bad I didn’t inherit any of her talents.”

“It’s okay. If you like my cooking, I will make it for you often.”

“All right! What a good daughter you are.”

While they were talking, the report on the TV grabbed their attention.

“This morning, villagers found a body at the foot of Slopecrest Mountain. According to the police, the deceased was the recent popular star, Daphne Dawson…”

Caroline and Marietta’s eyes landed on the TV.

“Daphne is dead?” Caroline couldn’t believe what she had heard. Although she hadn’t liked Daphne, she couldn’t believe that she had died just like that.

The female reporter on the TV continued, “Many locals speculated that the deceased slipped and fell.

“The police haven’t given any further explanations. They advise the public to be cautious when climbing mountains during rainy seasons…”

“Maybe she really did slip and fall.” When Marietta said this, she looked at Kirk.

“I guess what goes around comes around.”

Kirk kept his expression neutral the entire time. Only when he served Caroline food did a trace of tenderness appear in his eyes, revealing that he did have feelings too.

After lunch, Marietta told Caroline the outline of her new story.

Caroline felt antsy as she heard it. “It’s a pity I can’t write. If I could, I would love to use my words to describe the world that I envision.

In the past, to become well–educated woman worthy of marrying Eddy, Caroline had read many classics and had thought of writing.

But later on, she had had to learn other things, so it put her interests on hold.

Marietta advised, “Actually, writing a book isn’t that difficult. You only need a bit of skill and fluency to write a story.”

Although Caroline knew writing wasn’t that simple, she was still touched.

It hadn’t been her intention to take charge of Evans Group at first. If she wasn’t trying to bring the Evans family back on its feet, she wouldn’t have been Evans Group’s CEO.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

She would rather have the choice to do whatever she liked, just like when she had been at Thorne

Corporation.

“Then, I’ll give it a try. Can you give me some pointers after I’m done?”

“Of course,” Marietta replied with a hearty smile.

Then, it was almost time for Marietta to leave.

Caroline asked, “I’ll take you home, Mom.”

Kirk was already one step ahead of Caroline and put on his coat. “I’ll take her home.”

“No, it’s okay,” Marietta stopped the two of them. She dared not let SY Group’s president be her

driver. She was happy enough to hear Kirk call her “Mom“.

Caroline couldn’t win against her. Hence, she led Marietta downstairs.

Before getting into the car, Marietta hugged Caroline and advised, “Carrie, Kirk is a good man. You

have to cherish him.”

Caroline nodded. “Don’t worry, Mom.”

“I’ll be taking my leave.” After saying this, Marietta got into the car.

After watching Marietta leave, Caroline looked at Kirk strangely.
