Chapter 681
Chapter 681
Silence filled the air again after Caroline left.
“Chery-” Jack started.
“Stop. You listen to me first.” Cheryl straightened her back. “I was wrong last time. I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you.”
“You were being kind by introducing me to someone else.” She continued, “I’m so sorry.”
Jack suddenly found himself at a loss for words. The two of them sat quietly in the car after that.
Sometime later, Cheryl broke the silence and asked, “What were you going to tell me just now?”
Jack was about to say something but thought better of it. He shook his head and told her, “It’s
nothing. I have nothing to say.” The words that were on the tip of his tongue just now disappeared.
“Can we still be friends?” Chery asked.
Staring into her smiling eyes, Jack found himself sympathizing with her. “Yes, of course.”
“That’s great,” Cheryl said. “So, we’ll just pretend like nothing happened then?”

“Well then,” said Cheryl, her tone sounding much more cheerful than before. “Let’s go ”
Jack turned to look back at the road ahead. His grip on the steering wheel tightened with the
mixed feelings he had.
Cheryl relaxed in the backseat, her fists no longer clenched. She looked out the window and felt
proud of herself for having done it.
Although Jack and her couldn’t be together, they could still be friends at least. This was the best
outcome she could have hoped for.
They made their way through the traffic, the light illuminating their faces in the night. Their
minds were occupied.
Even when she arrived home, Caroline couldn’t stop worrying about Cheryl. So she sent Cheryl a
message.
Caroline entered the house after sending the message. The sight of the house shocked her to her core. She had doubts if she had stepped foot into the wrong house.
The interior of the house was transformed. The previously minimalistic look was replaced by one
of warmth and coziness. There was even a mini garden on the balcony.

The house didn’t seem like a mere place to stay anymore, but a place for one to rest and relax.
“Did you do this?” Caroline asked, surprised.
Kirk took her hand in his and led into the center of the space. “What do you think? Do you like it?”
Looking around, Caroline felt her heart become at ease. “Yes. Were you at home all day just to do all this?”
Kirk nodded. The weight on his heart lifted when he saw her smile. “I’m glad that you like it.” He led her to the balcony, where the pocket garden was. “Take a look and see if you like any of the flowers here. If you don’t like them, I can have someone come over and change them for you.”
Caroline simply stared at him in silence until he pinched her nose teasingly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You sound like someone who’s used to ordering people around,” she said. “You were born to be a leader. If we’re able to take down the Collins Group this time, I’m sure you’ll manage the company well.”
Kirk laughed at her words, his eyes still locked in hers. “That’s something I’m not completely sure of. One thing’s certain, though.”
“What is it?” Caroline asked curiously.
“I was born for you, and I exist for you.”
Caroline’s heart fluttered at his words, and her face flushed. Lowering her head in embarrassment, she mumbled, “Stop it. All you do is sweet talk all the time.”
Kirk placed her hand on his chest, next to his heart. “Why don’t you listen to what my heart is telling you then?”
She could feel his heartbeat in her palm. It made her blush even more, and she started to pull her hand away from him. But he stopped her by pressing her hand firmly against his chest, leaving her speechless.
