Chapter 14 Irrelevant Person

Chapter 14 Irrelevant Person

“Alexia?” Chaim frowned slightly.

“Yes, it’s me.”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“I heard you were in the hospital. Are you sick?” Alexia asked cautiously as she clutched at her clothes.

On the other side of the phone, Chaim glanced sideways at the hospital bed, not sure what to say.

“Yes.”

“Is it serious?” Alexia couldn’t help increasing her pitch of her voice with obvious worries. “Which hospital are you in? I want to see you.”

“No need!” Chaim’s face darkened, “Have you finished your work?”

Alexia’s throat tightened.

“Since it’s not finished, then hurry up. I will check it when I come back.”

With that, Chaim hung up.

“Chaim, who was that?” a weak female voice called from behind him out of curiosity.

When Chaim heard the voice, his bitter expression softened instantly.

“Did I wake you?” he asked as he turned around.

“No, the anesthesia has worn off. You haven’t answered me yet.”

The woman raised her skinny hand and placed it gently on his. Chaim felt the coldness of her palm, so he pulled his hand back, and put hers back under the quilt, “Just an irrelevant person.”

“That’s alright.” The woman smiled and stopped talking, turning her head to have a violent coughing fit.

Chaim immediately pressed the emergency button next to the bed.

Several doctors led by Nathaniel rushed in. After an examination, Nathaniel took off his gloves. “She’s okay for the moment, but we can’t postpone it any longer. Chaim, have her sign the bone marrow donation consent as soon as possible.”

“Bone marrow donation consent?” Evelyn struggled to sit up, brushing aside worried doctors, her eyes bursting with surprise. “Chaim, have you found a donor?”

Chaim couldn’t stand her disappointment, and slowly formed the word, “Yes.”

Evelyn covered her mouth as she wept with excitement.

Chaim helped her lie down. “Take a good rest. Don’t worry, leave everything to me.”

He wouldn’t let her die, he couldn’t.

“Thank you, Chaim!” Evelyn looked at him, eyes glistening.

Chaim tucked the quilt around her. “No thanks needed. I’m willing to do it for you. I’m going to return to the company. Nate, take good care of Evelyn.”

“Don’t worry.” Nathaniel nodded and chuckled.

Chaim nodded back, pulling wrinkles in his suit straight before leaving the hospital.

When he returned to the office, Assistant Chiao followed him and reported the matters that happened during his absence.

Chaim responded absently and walked toward his office without expression.

When he passed by one of the secretary’s offices, he glanced at Alexia leaning over her desk and nodding off.

“Mr. Lancaster?”

Seeing Chaim stop so abruptly, Assistant Chiao shut the folder and looked at him with concern.

Chaim raised a hand, “Wait for me here.” Then he walked into the office.

It was chill in the office. Chaim looked at the air conditioner in the corner; it was only 61 degrees. His rage caused him to clench his fists. Was this woman not worried about getting sick?

Chaim walked over with a grim face, knocking on the desk. “Alexia!”

Alexia was so scared and suddenly stood up, the words tumbling out of her mouth, “Yes!”

“Sleeping on the job. Did you really think you could be a secretary like this?” Chaim asked, his lips forming a thin line.

Alexia’s face turned pale, and she was completely awake now. “Sorry, I was up so late last night…”

She waited for him for so long and only slept a few hours the night before so that she fell asleep accidentally.

Unfortunately, he caught her.

“ in five hundred words and give it to me before the end of the day!” Chaim ordered.

“Yes!” Alexia responded bitterly.

“Have you finished your work?” Chaim asked again.

“Yes, I have.” Alexia hurriedly pushed a stack of documents on the desk toward him, staring at him with bright eyes, making her like a small animal asking for praise. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Chaim’s pupils dilated and his throat tightened.

He had just seen such bright eyes from Evelyn, and he didn’t expect to see them from his wife too.

It was the same expression, but with different details. Evelyn’s eyes were filled with an eagerness he couldn’t understand, but Alexia’s in front of him were truly clear.

It was so clear that he felt extremely uncomfortable.

Perceiving the oddness of himself, Chaim looked away with no expression. He picked up a folder and looked through it.

Alexia was confident she didn’t make any mistakes this time, so she calmly watched him. After a while, she couldn’t help but say, “When did you come back, Chaim? Are you feeling okay?”

Chaim snapped the folder shut. His expression was unhappy, “Please call me Mr. Lancaster while at work.”

Alexia’s expression became stiff, but she regained her composure quickly. Enduring the sour expression, she forced a smile. “Okay, Mr. Lancaster. Are you…”

“Okay!” Chaim interrupted her impatiently and picked up the documents on the table. “Notify all the senior executives we will have a meeting in the conference room in ten minutes.”

“Yes,” Alexia responded disappointedly, in a low voice.

She only wanted to care about him, however, he wouldn’t give her a chance.
