Contract 13
Chapter

"What do you mean you can't heal him?" Fiona's voice was sharp, her brows furrowing as she stared at the healer. The man, who looked to be in his early fifties, was the same healer who had tended to Carrie. Regor had summoned him immediately after the attack, but
the situation was growing more dire by the second
The healer looked down at Elijah's pale form with a concerned expression. "Poison claws are not easy to heal," he began, his tone somber. "The poison used is designed to slow down a werewolf's natural healing process. Normally, it isn't deadly, just meant to weaken and incapacitate werewolves. But in this case. He trailed off, his eyes narrowing as he examined Elijah's wound more closely.
Fiona glanced around the room. They were in a house owned by the Alpha King, situated in a territory without any pack affiliations. They had been forced to seek refuge here after the attack. However, this house had no security that would help them in case another attack happened. This was done to avoid suspicions from rogues and humans. Because of this, she wanted to get this over with as soon as possible.
She wanted the healer to heal Elijah before something else happened. Who would have thought that the healer would only give Elijah one look before saying that he could not help him?
"How is that possible?" Fiona demanded, her voice trembling slightly.
The healer sighed, shaking his head. "The poison claws should not have caused this level of damage. It's meant to keep a werewolf weak, not unconscious. But Prince Elijah's reaction suggests that the poison used was something far more potent. I need to study it further before I can even attempt to heal him."
Regor, standing nearby with a tense expression, spoke up. "What do we need to do?"
"We need to get him back to the palace," the healer replied firmly. "The elixir required to counteract this kind of poison is only available there. It's possible that the poison claws used on him were enhanced with something else-something we've never seen before. If that's the case, we'll need all the resources the palace can offer.
Fiona's heart raced as she looked down at Elijah. His breathing was shallow, his skin clammy. She could feel panic rising within her, but she forced it down, focusing on what needed to be done. "You're saying he could die?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The healer didn't respond immediately, his silence confirming her worst fears. He turned to Regor. "Arrange for immediate transport. We don't have time to waste.
But before Regor could move, Fiona stepped forward. "Wait. I need to talk to you alone," she said, looking at Regor..
The healer frowned at her, his expression turning to one of disdain. "And who are you to give orders here?" he asked, his voice dripping with condescension Since the healer arrived, he didn't ask for Fiona's identity, and Fiona just assumed that the healer already knew who she was.
Fiona lifted her chin, meeting his gaze without flinching. "I'm the Prince's fiancée," she declared, her voice surprisingly steady.
The healer narrowed his eyes. However, before he could say a word, Regor thankfully backed Fiona up. "She speaks the truth. Now leave the room and let us decide our next steps."
The healer looked taken aback, clearly not expecting this response. After a moment, he gave a stiff nod and left the room, his expression still one of irritation and disbelief.
As soon as the door closed behind him, Fiona let out a shaky breath. She turned back to Elijah, her heart aching at the sight of him so vulnerable. "Regor, we need to figure out what's really going on here," she said, her voice softer now but filled with resolve. "This isn't just about poison claws. Someone wanted to make sure he wouldn't recover easily."
Fiona might be ignorant of most things, but she knew that the attack was intentional. They knew that the Prince was strong, yet they still dared to openly attack him. Why?

Fiona had an uncomfortable pit in her stomach. She didn't want to admit it, but it seemed that Elijah's world was just as, if not more, dangerous than hers.
"Poison claws don't have that effect, Regor uttered. Then he looked around. "Currently, the Prince has the highest chance to become the next Alpha King. While it is logical to take him back to the palace, all of the Princes are currently there. That place is actually more dangerous than outside of the palace" Fiona pursed her lips. She wasn't aware of this. It seems that the politics in the werewolf world are more dangerous than she originally thought. Again, she looked at Elijah. The real reason why he was wounded was because of her. He protected her. She bit her lower lip. However, before she could speak, a loud howl interrupted the silence inside the room. Her eyes immediately widened.
"What-What is that?" she asked.
Regor's face turned ugly as he said. "Rogues. It seems that they really wanted the Prince to leave and go back to the palace." He clenched his jaw.
"What are we going to do now?" Fiona asked.
"We will fight against them," Regor said, his tone dark. "Stay here. Do not let anyone in."
Fiona nodded and locked the wooden door after Regor left. If she was right, two of Elijah's men were also wounded from the attack earlier. Her heart started to race as she thought about the real goal of the rogues

Fiona sat beside Elijah. She knew she had the ability to help him, but the fear of exposing her secret gnawed at her. If anyone discovered her true powers, especially in the cutthroat world of werewolf politics, she would become a target. She had kept this hidden even from Elijah, afraid that he or others might try to exploit her abilities. But now, with Elijah's life hanging in the balance because of her, she realized she had no choice. This was different.
Her heart pounded against her chest as she hesitated, her hand hovering over his bare chest. She could feel the warmth of his skin, the steady but shallow rise and fall of his breathing. Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself. She couldn't let him
die.
Her fingers found the spot just below his navel, where the poison was concentrated. Slowly, she pressed her palm against his skin, willing her powers to activate. There were no dramatic lights or sparks; instead, it felt like a gentle flow of energy from her hand into his body. The sensation was warm, almost like a comforting blanket wrapping around them both.
As the energy flowed, Fiona closed her eyes. She could feel the poison being drawn out, neutralized by the magic coursing through her. The process was slow, requiring her full concentration, but she could sense that it was working. The warmth from her hand spread throughout his body, easing his pain and restoring his strength.
Tears welled up in Fiona's eyes as she let all her worries flow out with the magic. She had been so afraid-afraid of being used, afraid of losing Elijah, afraid of the dangerous world she was now a part of. Everything felt unbearable, and before she knew it, the tears were streaming down her face.
She didn't realize how much time had passed, her focus entirely on Elijah, until she felt a sudden movement beneath her hand. Startled, Fiona opened her eyes and gasped. Elijah's hand had shot up, gripping hers-tightly. He was awake.
Before she could react, he pulled her toward him, his eyes sharp and alive. He was healed. And her secret was no longer hers
alone.
But before she could process what this meant, the sound of more howls echoed outside, reminding them both that the danger wasn't over yet.
