“Liam!” I called surprisingly after I straightened my back and took a step away from him.

“May?” He called again with a shocked expression on his face. I guess he was as shocked as I was. Liam and I were classmates back in college. We were not just regular classmates, but quite close that you could call us friends. I had a secret crush on him. I mean, who wouldn’t crush on the most handsome dude in the whole college?

During our third year in college, Liam won an award in school as the most handsome and neatly dressed dude in school. You can imagine the amount of hate and love it must’ve brought him then, yeah? His handsome face and sharp brain was the only thing he needed to attract ladies to himself and of course, I was not an exemption then, but I had to hold back because he was in a relationship then. We haven’t seen each other since graduation from college, and, shockingly, we bumped into each other here.

“Wow! This is…” He paused and scanned me with his eyes as a big smile played on his lips.

“I’m speechless. It’s so good to see you,” He said, obviously excited, and I could say the same thing for myself. He was still as handsome as ever. Oval-shaped face, sharp jawline, charming blue eyes, pointed nose, and a sharp chin. Of course, I didn’t fail to notice his biceps which were almost visible through the black leather jacket he was wearing. He was still breathtaking.

“It’s good to see you too,” I didn’t expect to still be shy around him even after so many years, but I guess the feeling was something that couldn’t be helped.

“Where have you been? I’ve tried to reach you several times with your phone number that I had then, but it never went through,” He tucked his hands inside his pockets and briefly raised his shoulders before he dropped them again. Just like before, he still loves making eye contact when talking. I guess that was one of his charms.

“I lost my phone,” My reply was brief as I was clouded with anxiety.

“What about you?” I asked him, somehow curious to know what he had been up to after so many years of being away.

“I just came back from Europe three days ago and decided to come here to have fun today. Don’t mind me. I was bored at home,” He explained to me, and I nodded shyly.

“Why don’t we take a walk and catch up on old times? It’s really been ages,” He suggested, and since I wasn’t even thinking of going home, I agreed to take a walk with him.

My heartbeat increased rapidly as I walked side by side with Liam, and I fondled with my fingers while trying to think straight. Even though the feelings I had for him then were gone, I couldn’t still stop being nervous around him.

“So, what have you been up to?” He asked out of the blue moon, and I glanced at him.

“Nothing… Just here,” I shrugged. You weren’t expecting me to tell him that I was pregnant for a man who didn’t even know about the child, right? Or that I got into a contract marriage with a crazy man, yeah? That was the last thing I would ever do. That’s embarrassing.

“What about you?” I asked him, and he smiled.

“After college, I left for Europe for my masters and just got back a few days ago,” He briefly explained to me, and I nodded.

We talked about random things that were not limited to old times in school, and we laughed together.

“Why don’t we get ice cream from there, hmm?” He suggested when we got to where they were selling ice cream, and even though I already had one before, I couldn’t decline this.

“Sure. We should,” I said affirmatively, and he led the way while I trailed behind him.

Liam ordered two pieces of cone ice cream for us and we proceeded to take a walk.

As we took a walk across the park, enjoying the fresh mist air of the night, I could only be grateful that I came out tonight. I tripped over something and almost fell, but Liam held my arm quickly and pulled me back. I ended up colliding against his chest and again, the ice cream smeared my face and stained his jacket too.

“Oh, my goodness. I’m so sorry about this… I didn’t mean to,” I quickly apologized to him. It was a good thing that I was still with the handkerchief that Lily gave me earlier, so I quickly took it out to clean his jacket.

“Don’t worry about me. Let me help you with that,” He took the handkerchief from me instead and started cleaning my face with it.

“Are you so comfortable with other people touching you aside from your husband?” My heart missed a beat when I heard the familiar voice behind me, and before I could look to confirm if it was really who I thought, someone grabbed my arm from behind and pulled me roughly away from Liam.

“You should get married or find yourself a girlfriend if you desperately want to flirt with someone. Don’t mess around with my wife,” My jaw dropped to the ground when Miles came face to face with Liam and said to him coldly.

For the next few minutes, Liam stared in shock as he blinked his eyes a few times.

I yanked Miles’s hand away and stepped away from him before I finally turned and faced him. He was cladded in black leather trousers and a black big coat with sunglasses on. For goodness sake, who in their right sense wears sunglasses at this time of the night?

It was as if he read my thoughts aloud because he removed the sunglasses and threw Liam a murderous glare before he turned to me.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving the house, wife?” He cupped my cheeks in his palms and asked me like the sweetest man on earth, but I could not say anything. How the heck did he find me at this place? Was the only question I kept asking myself as I looked into his eyes, forgetting Liam was still there with us.

“Uhm… May… You didn’t mention to me that you were married,” Liam’s voice pulled me back to reality, and I quickly stepped away from Miles and turned to him.

“Oh, that? Uhm…”

“There is no reason to tell you she was getting married. And now that you know that she is married, stay away from her…” Miles paused, then took a step toward Liam and locked eyes with him.

“Stay away from my woman. She is mine alone,” Even though it was cringe, crazy, and annoying, I couldn’t deny that my heart fluttered when he said that. I couldn’t deny the excitement that filled my heart upon hearing him claiming me like he was obsessed with me. Well, deep inside me, I was sure that Miles was just messing with me. I wasn’t the type of woman he would be obsessed with, and one more thing, he wasn’t my kind of man.

Liam just huffed and stared with his mouth hanging open and his eyes narrowed. I guess he was speechless because even I was speechless at that moment.

For a moment, I felt like a leading role in a movie. You know those Korean movies where the male lead would be obsessed with the female lead and would protect her from another man? I literally had that feeling. It felt like I was stuck in a love triangle, just that this was nothing like a love triangle but instead a crazy occurrence that was going to drive me mad.

Miles turned to me, then held my hand and dragged me off with him, leaving Liam behind there, while I just followed him wordlessly.

Miles didn’t stop dragging me until we got to where his car was parked. He pulled the door open, bundled me inside, and slammed it behind me. He went to the driver’s seat and hopped inside. I was still too shocked to react because it all felt strange and crazy.

I had expected him to start the car and drive us home immediately, but he just rested his head on the headrest, and sparing him a glance, I found him closing his eyes like he was doing meditation or whatever it was that he was doing.

“What was that about? You left the house without telling me… You didn’t answer my calls even though I called several times, and…” He paused and breathed in and out.

“How could you allow another man to touch you when you know that we are still married?” His voice sounded enraged this time and a bit higher than before.

“You were smiling and giggling at him. You both looked like couples back there. Were you not concerned about people misunderstanding you two?” He rambled on, but I remained silent.

“Ugh! I can’t believe this. You allowed him to touch you… He was wiping your mouth and you were fucking enjoying it. Are you kidding?” He continued to yell. He sounded so angry and I could’ve sworn that he was going to hit me, but I knew he wouldn’t dare, anyway. I was not going to spare him and I was sure he would never do such a thing to me.

“Are you not going to say something? You are driving me crazy!” He slammed his hands on the steering wheel.

“You are driving me crazy too, Miles. What do you want me to say? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that? Why are you acting like we are couples?” I snapped at him, and he raised his eyebrows.

“We are just married on contract, and the last time I checked, we didn’t make any agreement that we were not going to live our personal lives. We didn’t agree that neither of us was not going to see another man or woman, so why are you making a big deal out of this?” I yelled at him again, and he flinched.

“This is my life and you have no right to tell me what to do, who to mingle with, and how to live my life. And besides, Liam was my crush,” I revealed to him, and he huffed a few times.

“We are just married on contract, so I think you should stop being this obsessive. It’s crazy and annoying,” I stated clearly, and even though the disappointment and pain were written on his face, I could only care less…
