Maja smiled and nodded, “Alright, catch you later.” © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
With that, she spun around and left.
lan stood there, gazing at her retreating figure. After a few seconds, Fannie tugged at his sleeve
“lan, what are you staring at?”
Instead of answering, he turned and headed towards Riverside Haven
Maja hailed a cab to Daly’s place and found a bunch of people already there, including the neighbours,
all gossiping about Leo
The door was shut tight, with Daly and Susan holed up inside.
There were a few beefy guys outside holding sticks looking like they were ready to lay a siege
Maja approached one of the stick wielding dudes. He was a big guy, with bulging muscles on his arms
that looked ready to burst at any moment
“Hey, what’s going on? What did Leo do? Why are you all giving them the stink eye?”
The guy didn’t expect such a pretty lady to pop a question like that, so he answered.
“This chicken shit hit the boss’s son. Kid had to get a good twenty stitches on his head. The boss sold
they gotta pay, but they’re all hiding in the house like cowards. Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the
tree.”
Maja didn’t think Leo’s parents were cowards, but they did overprotect him, which was a big part of the
problem.
But that’s how it goes in Crystalbrook Valley. Sons are everything to parents, their retirement plan pretty
much.
Even if their son messes up big time, he’s still their golden boy.
The locals here don’t expect much from their sons, just that they get hitched. But they have sky-high
expectations for their daughters,
Maja gave the guy a small smile, her face calm.
“Look, how about we all cool our jets? I’ll get Leo out here, we’ll sort things out. Your boss just wants a
solution, right? He didn’t tell you guys to get physical, did he?”
The guy snorted, “Fine, get him out here then!”
Maja went up to the door and knocked, “Daly, Susan.”
Daly and Susan were inside, and hearing Maja’s voice was like a lifeline
“Maja!”
Susan rushed to the door but didn’t dare open it when she saw the bruisers still outside.
“Susan, open the door. If there’s a misunderstanding, we’ll clear it up face to face.”
Susan glanced at Leo, who was smoking in the corner, sighed, and opened the door, trusting Maja.
“Maja, you’re finally back.”
Spotting Leo in the corner, Maja was livid, “Leo, you’re a man. Stand up to the plate. What are you
doing hiding behind your parents? If you had the guts to do it, why don’t you have the balls to own
up?”
Leo’s hand jittered, he was fuming.
“I did hit them, those bastards deserved it, I wish I’d hit them harder!”
The guys outside heard this and grabbed their sticks.
“Coward, only afraid when you see the consequences, huh?”
Seeing the guys outside, Leo chickened out and hid behind Maja, clutching her tightly as a shield,
Maja laughed in exasperation, then said.
“Weren’t you all high and mighty just now? You injured someone, made them get over twenty stitches,
that’s attempted murder, you know? If it comes down to it, you could be doing time.”
Hearing about possible prison time, Daly and Susan started to panic.
“Maja, it was an accident, can we work something out? We’re willing to pay, name your price.”
It was this kind of overindulgence that had led Leo down this path,
