Chapter 302
She instantly loosened up from being tense, and her discomfort dissipated as they fell back into the
same interaction mode as when they first met.
“That neighbor finally moved out; I’ve been sleeping like a baby lately.”
lan reopened his file, “That’s good then.”
Sitting beside them, Connie kept glancing back and forth between them, sensing they had some coded
conversation.
“Penny, lan has to stick with Carlene later. After we get off, come hang out with me; the scenery there
is nice. Even though I’m loaded, I don’t get to hang out with everyone often. If you’re uncomfortable,
just follow me for some food therapy.”
Connie really liked Maja; she drew well, was pretty, and had a great personality.
If only she were lan’s wife.
Unfortunately, his heart belonged to Carlene,
Carlene seemed okay, but she was not Penny.
With Connie’s presence, Maja felt more at ease.
As soon as the car stopped, there stood a figure outside; it was Carlene.
Carlene looked weak, her eyes still a bit red.
“lan.” She called out softly from outside with a hint of a sob in her voice.
It was awkward for Maja, and it seemed like Carlene was here to seek comfort from lan after being
humiliated by Holden at Rosewood Manor.
The car door opened, and as Carlene saw Maja inside, her face instantly turned sour. She couldn’t
help but scoff.
“Penny, did you find my cat?”
At this point, Connie was pulling Maja away, her tone a bit naive.
“Carlene, what cat?”
“She lost my cat.”
Carlene’s eyes were sharp; she felt uncomfortable seeing Connie and Maja getting along well.
“Connie, how do you know her?”
Connie and Carlene weren’t on great terms; she preferred Maja.
“Penny helped me with my drawings a few times, she’s really good at it, so I brought her along for the
food fest tonight.”
Carlene pursed her lips, she had warned Maja to locate her missing cat as soon as possible, or there
would be consequences.
However, after being humiliated by Holden at Rosewood Manor, she had forgotten all about it and had
an emotional breakdown in her room. Upon seeing Maja, her tone turned even more colder.
“That cat of mine was expensive.”
Maja found it amusing, her tone nonchalant.
“So what?”
Carlene was fuming, “What do you mean by that?”
“Ms. Shepard, I’ve told you before, I didn’t lose your cat. Your servant feared you’d blame her, so she
pointed the finger at me. You just didn’t believe me.”
“Carlene, there must be a misunderstanding. Penny’s a good person; you should go home and ask
your servant about it. And if your cat’s missing, why are you here? You don’t seem to care that much
about the cat.”
Carlene was furious, her eyes welling up; she looked at lan beside her.
“lan…”
Remembering the harsh words from Holden, lan comforted her gently.
“I’ve sent people to look for it, and we’ll find it tonight for sure.”
Carlene looked a bit better, she wanted to cling to him, but she was scared remembering Holden’s
words.
Connie took the chance to whisk Maja away to the seafood area.
Maja found that Connie wasn’t exaggerating; there were dozens of aquariums in the glass sunroom, all
full of fresh seafood, each kind very expensive!
“Penny, I know you don’t like Mia, I don’t either, but this party is too good to miss. There will be
professional chefs coming over to cook on the spot. A lot of people got invited. Ian and Fitch are good
buddies, so he’s here too. He usually doesn’t care for these
kinds of events.” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Connie was a chatterbox, chirping non–stop like a little bird.
“I don’t like Carlene either, and I find her so–so. Did you know she went abroad to study art? You know
Herbert, right? Carlene chased him overseas, wanting to be his apprentice, but he said he already had
one and wasn’t taking any new ones.”
