Chapter 619
Chapter 619
Linda lay down, her eyes locked onto Chloe's with the innocence of a lost puppy. Normally, Chloe would have thought Linda was just putting on an act. But now, seeing her like this, Chloe's heart ached.
"Linda, what do you really want to say?"
"My child, how is my child doing?"
Linda's lips were still stained with blood, making them look strikingly vivid. Chloe replied, "He's doing well. He's eating and sleeping fine, just a bit smaller than a full-term baby should be."
Linda seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Chloe," she said, "I was wrong. I truly was. If I had another chance, I would never treat you this way. Could you ever forgive me?"
"Let's talk about this later, okay?"
Linda shook her head. "I'm dying, Chloe. I can't be with you, and I can't stand to see you happy with someone else. In a way, it's a relief. I won't bother you anymore."
Chloe glanced at the machines beside them, the red lights flashing and alarms blaring. Anxiety gripped her. "Linda, stop talking like that. You're not going to die. Just hang in there, and we can sort things out later."
Linda coughed harshly, blood spilling from her mouth again. Chloe held her hand tightly, not daring to pull away for fear of hurting Linda further. "There's no time left, Chloe. I've made too many mistakes in my life."
"Please, for the sake of my impending death, forgive me for everything, will you?"
Looking at Linda's pale face, Chloe couldn't hold back her tears any longer. They streamed down her face as she said, "I forgive you, Linda. Whatever you've done, I forgive you. Please let me go so I can get a doctor."
Linda seemed to exhale deeply, her
head sinking into the soft pillow. The light in her eyes dimmed, and her voice grew weaker. "My child... please take good care of him.

matter what happens, don't hate him. He's innocent... I regret so much..."
"Linda, stop talking. I promise you, I promise everything, just let me go."
Linda slowly closed her eyes, her voice barely a whisper. "Chloe, meeting you was the luckiest moment of my life, but meeting me was your disaster. I'm so sorry... so sorry..."
"I don't want to hear anymore. Just focus on getting better, and we can talk about everything else later."
Linda began to cough violently, blood staining the pillow red. When she finally lay back, she released Chloe's hand.
"Chloe, I want to see the child..." Her voice was almost inaudible, her words barely clear. But Chloe understood perfectly.
As soon as her hand was free, Chloe pressed the call button on the wall. Doctors and nurses rushed in. After examining Linda, they found her condition had worsened dramatically. Her organs were failing, and her vital signs were weak. Linda seemed to slip into unconsciousness again.
The medical team made a desperate attempt to save her. Chloe dashed out of the room. Lucas seemed to sense the urgency too. His empty gaze suddenly focused as he stood outside the emergency room's glass window, watching intently.
