Chapter 1643 Did I Cut You to The Quick?
Chapter 1643 Did I Cut You to The Quick?
“Not yet. They were putting it on hold.”
“Get approved. The Don family had contributed so much to the country. It’s alright to let him retire
earlier. Get Morty to choose two other people to replace Xander and Audrey. Also, get him to in-charge
there.”
Aron decided on it as he stopped writing.
The old housekeeper promised to comply with Aron’s command. Then, he asked, “What about Mr.
Mark’s position?”
“Get Morty to decide on it.”
Aron decided to let Morty in-charged in the Don family’s matters.
The housekeeper nodded and exited the room.
After the housekeeper got out of the room, he saw Morty, who purposely waited for him, in the corridor.
The housekeeper greeted Morty politely, “Mr. Morty.”
“Uncle Kenny, did my father look for you?”
“Yes, he needed me to do something for him.”
The housekeeper looked down. It was hard to tell if he was telling the truth.
Morty glanced at him and asked, “Did he give me any instructions?”
“Yes, Mr. Hill told me to get you in charge of the Don family’s matters.”
“Anything else?”
“No.”
Morty stared at the housekeeper coldly. He was smiling, but it wasn’t a sincere smile.
“Uncle Kenny, you’ve been working with my father since a long time ago, and you didn’t even want to
go home after your retirement, but instead, you stayed and became our housekeeper. Should I say that
you loved the power your job gave you, or should I suspect you to have some hidden agenda?”
Morty stared at Kenny.
Kenny wasn’t young anymore, so he knew the game pretty well. Of course, Kenny’s expressions were
well-concealed.
Kenny replied calmly as usual, “You can think whatever you like to think.”
Morty was frustrated as he didn’t get the answer he wanted, but he smiled and left without saying
anything further.
Kenny left the corridor after Morty as well.
Morty hid in the dark and said softly, “Follow him and see where he’s heading.”
“Sure!”
A dark figure left the place where Morty was hiding and headed to Kenny’s direction instead.
After a while, the person replied to Morty that Kenny went to see Blair, and Blair brought a medical kit
to a high-security prison with Kenny.
Morty frowned.
Blair worked for him, so Morty wasn’t worried that Blair would do anything that betrayed him. However,
he wasn’t sure why Kenny brought Blair to a high-security prison. Was somebody dying in there?
Morty was confused, but he didn’t ask the person to continue following Kenny.
As a person who worked under Aron for so many years, of course, Kenny knew he was tailed. Morty
believed that Blair would eventually tell him what he wanted to know.
Lucas came to Morty when he returned to the base.
“I’ve got something.”
“What is it?”
Lucas followed Morty into the study room.
Lucas passed something to Morty and said in a lower tone, “Alison wasn’t a Close. She’s from the
military. Alison quitted the army on purpose. Someone made her. It all looked like a coincidence.
Nobody suspected that she’s related to the army if you don’t look into it. But you see, her real name
was Tracy, and she met someone before she quit the army.”
Morty took a look at the video clip Lucas showed him, and he frowned.
The image was blurry, but Morty recognized the person in the video.
It was Kenny!
Tracy met Kenny before she quit the army?
What did it mean?
Was Tracy working under Kenny or Aron?
“You should stop investigation from now on. I’ll take over the rest of it.”
Morty stared at Lucas, and he started to have a bad feeling.
Samuel’s youngest son had gone missing, and Morty could not let anything happen to Lucas under his
care.
Lucas noticed something was going on as well. He nodded and asked, “Is Tracy’s assassination on
Laurence related to my brother missing?”
“I’m not sure, and you better don’t ask about it. I’ll tell you if there are any updates. Go back now and
continue practising as if nothing happened.”
Morty looked rather serious.
Lucas nodded and exited the room.
Morty could not help but kept thinking about the strangeness in the case. So, he headed to Aron’s room
again.
“Is there anything else?”
Aron completed another writing piece. His writing was big and fluent. It conveyed the generous
personality of the writer.
Morty shut the door. He even locked it.
Aron glanced at him and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Father, is Tracy working for you?”
Aron was stunned.
“Why do you want to know?”
Morty took a step forward when he saw Aron avoided his question. He continued, “Did you ask Tracy to
kill Laurence?”
Aron remained silent.
Morty was furious.
“Why? Even Laurence used to be cruel, but he had changed! He’s just like a normal person. Why can’t
you leave him alone?”
Aron glanced at the enraged Morty and put down his writing brush. He went and washed his hands in a
corner, and he looked calm.
“How are you going to stay in my position with that attitude? You’re easily influenced. How are you
going to see the bigger picture? Hey, you’re Morty Hill, my successor in the future. People were going
to wait for your decision to execute stuff. Do you know how many people would die if you make a
wrong decision?” Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Stop all these nonsenses. Answer me. Did you ask Tracy to kill Laurence?”
Morty had so many things to say, but he didn’t know where to start telling. Laurence was close to
Samuel, and Samuel was Morty’s best friend. How Morty was going to face Samuel if Aron did such a
thing?
Aron understood what Morty was thinking.
He frowned and told Morty coldly, “Samuel holds great power, and he is capable. If you want to be
friends with him and get him to help you, I’m fine with it, but you have to know where to draw the line.
You’re a Hill, and you’re destined to be cruel if you want to stay in my position. How are you going to do
this if you can’t draw the line and you’re acting recklessly because of what you called a ‘brotherhood’?”
Morty had heard the same thing since he was little, and he was so fed up with it already. He would
rather not be a Hill if he had a choice.
Morty was emotional. He said coldly, “I won’t be as cruel as you, and I can’t watch my mother get killed
and still be emotionless.”
“Morty!”
Aron used to be calm all the time, but he got mad this time. His straight face flushed red, and he looked
fierce. However, Morty wasn’t afraid of Aron. He continued, “What? Did I cut you to the quick? You are
not as calm as you thought. Why do you force me to be like you? I never think it is necessary to be
cruel to rule the world. Yes, plots and conspiracies are necessary, but how would you expect people to
be loyal to you if you aren’t sincere in the first place? I know nothing about your theories of ruling the
world. There is only one thing I know. I will try my very best not to allow anything to happen to my
lovers, brothers, and friend. Even if I got to your position one day, I won’t become as cruel as you!”
What Morty said triggered Aron.
When was the last time Aron spoke nicely to Morty?
Aron lost track.
