CHAPTER 28- ELEVEN YEARS AGO
Jack and Bee sat down on the bench by the window, the sun was close to setting and the whole forest

across the assistant, anticipating for what he had to say. Clouds of nostalgia highlighted Jack's
professional features; it was Bee's first time seeing him portraying something else than his usual
coldness.
Jack and Ryan were both stunning people, it was just that Ryan possessed a demonic charm and aura
while Jack looked more of a workaholic. If both were made to stand for an auction together, most
women would go for Ryan as that man looked dangerous but was naturally more charming. It was the
halo that distinguishes men from each other and the aristocratic one that the Boss had was one that
was rare to be found.
The man looked outside the window, gazing at the never ending beauty of life. He started, "Me, Ryan
and Catherine were childhood friends; we got to know each other as our fathers were friends with each
other."
"When we were young Ryan and I would always laugh about our unpredictable fate; we had this risky
future and none of us could predict if we will be living or dead the next moment. But Catherine... She
was different than all of us!"
"We always thought that I and Ryan would be the one embracing death sooner than anyone but fate
was cruel... And it was that innocent soul who bid good bye to us first."
...
Eleven years ago, Barcelona.
"Get ready, son. We have to go to the company today." Richard Neguyen, Ryan's father, was sitting on
the sofa having his morning read when he saw ten year old Ryan walking into the house after his
morning training session. The boy had a striking resemblance to his dad who himself was a very
handsome man but unlike his father who would at least smile every now and then the boy was
extremely poised and silent as if he were mum.
Ryan was wearing nothing but his tracks and a vest which was now drenched off his sweat, around his
waist tied was his jacket which he was too tired to hold in his arms. The boy was young and was not
even a teenager yet buy years of strict military training had helped him shape his body. His body was
carved perfectly at the right amount making him look too handsome for a 10 year old.
Ryan threw away his jacket in the laundry and shoving his hand inside his pocket looked at his father
with dropped eyes.
Richard folded his paper and looked at his son who was protesting silently; this kid... He was so cold
and apathetic that he hardly liked to meet people.
The man started, “Even if you drape your face with mud I am still taking you; Mr. Silva is our business
partner and is an old friend of your dad. You better get accustomed to everything lest you will have to
cope with unnecessary trouble after you take over as the heir.”
Ryan said nothing but headed upstairs and at the same time entered another figure close to Ryan’s
perfectness. “Hello, Mr. Neguyen.” Jack removed his hood and wished the man; Richard greeted him
back. Jack took the glass of water he was offered to by the maid and taking casual sips of it inquired,
“Where is he, uncle.”
“He is upstairs, just returned from training.” Mr. Neguyen replied the young lad but for some reason
Jack frowned. Both Jack and Ryan trained together but today the trained had let the go early; that was
why he got ready this early in the morning. But... Where was this guy?
Jack nodded an ok to Richard before pacing up to the stairs; knocking on the door he went in to
discover Ryan wrapped in nothing but a towel. His hairs were wet which indicated that he was just out
of the shower.
“Where were you for one whole hour?” Jack asked while making a seat for himself in the bed.
“Practising gun.” Ryan replied as if it was a tea for him.
Jack’s eyes spread open as he made a sour face, in a hushed voice that was hardly audible he said,
“Hey... Are you crazy? Your father said we are not allowed to use gun until we are at least 12.” Ryan
shrugged carelessly and replied, “I lack patience to wait for that long.” He wore his jeans and black t
shirt before adding, “Moreover, we are not safe. We have witnessed out fathers coming back home with
grave wounds at times; I don’t want that to happen to myself or anyone dear to me.”
“But, Ryan... You are only 10 year old. You should take it easy, pal.” Jack commented hysterically
seeing how serious this little guy was. Ryan corrected his hairs before the two walked down the stairs
for breakfast.
Even though Ryan was against going to the company his father still took both of them to the Silva’s.
Sitting at the back of their private black Porsche Ryan was listening to songs when Jack mischievously
removed his ear pods; the boy did receive a cold stare from Ryan but he managed to smoothly turn his
attention to something else, “Hey, look... We are here.”
Ryan turned his uninterested gaze at the Silva infrastructure; it was a tall sky kisser with handsome
interface. Said to be one of the elegant business structures in Barcelona Silva’s stood like a royalty in
the heart of the city.
“Boring.” Ryan commented and pondered himself back in his phone; Jack threw him a judging glance
and replied, “You are such a bummer; we are gonna have a lot of fun here.”
Richard and Jack’s father, who was his right hand man, got off the car and lead the two kids in. The
interior was as sophisticated as it looked from the outside; the group were lead in by two professional
looking woman in suit. Richard took the two boys to a room which had glass walls and allowed them to
look outside. The cabin had descent decoration, one look and Ryan could say that it was the waiting
lounge and as expected his reply was the same, “You two wait here; if you are hungry order something
to eat.
Saying this the men went out; Ryan turned around to look at Jack who had a really funny expression on
his face. Ryan’s gaze turned into that of mockery. He teased, “So, you gonna have fun sleeping in
here!”
Jack was upset; not only were they gonna spend the rest of the day locked in here but he was sure he
will be hunted down by Ryan’s sarcasm till they reach home. He stood mum praying for some miracle
to happen of else he would have to jump off the building unable to bear Ryan’s humour. He huffed and
tried to satiate himself, “No... I still believe something good will happen.”
“Yeah... Yeah...” Ryan shoved his hands inside his pocket and the two walked inside the room when a
little squeak caught their attention.
“Weeeeeeeee.....”
The two stopped on their track, Ryan raised his head and looked at his friend, “What was that?” Jack
was about to shrug when he saw a rolling chair sliding across the room about to crash on the two.
“Ryan, watch out...” Jack yelled making Ryan turn around to see the approaching furniture. He pushed
away Jack but it was too late for him to escape; the chair collided and went crashing on him. Ryan
groaned in pain but to his surprise there was another voice accompanying him... A melodious childlike
one taking him off guard.
