Chapter 2137
Chapter 2137
Timothy was struck by a sudden clarity when Magdalen put things into perspective for him.
He needed a favor from Charlie and knew that Carson would be at the shindig today. He shamelessly tagged along, hoping Carson could put in a good word and introduce him to Charlie, but had he forgotten that everyone here was a heavyweight in J City?
He wasn't exactly in a position to throw his weight around.
Quickly adjusting his attitude, Timothy said with a half-smile, "I was just pulling Ms. Jarvis's leg, Magdalen. No offense meant." Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
But Magdalen wasn't ready to let it slide. "Some jokes are all in good fun, but others can land your whole family in hot water, Timothy. You'd better learn the difference."
Timothy could feel his irritation rising at Magdalen's condescending tone, but he dared not show it, and kept a strained smile plastered on his face as he apologized.
Carson wandered over and asked, "What's going on?"
Without missing a beat, Timothy replied, "Nothing, just exchanging a few words with Magdalen."
After which he quickly pulled Carson away.
Magdalen and Sylvia exchanged glances, too used to dealing with slimeballs to take it to heart, and turned to go find Emily and the others.
Evelyn, who had been eavesdropping for a bit, watched Sylvia with a thoughtful gaze.
"Evelyn," Magdalen suddenly called out, "Come and sit with us."
Magdalen only knew Evelyn as a friend Estelle had brought from outside, assuming Estelle had temporarily put her up at Old Mr. Quintin's place, and that's why she came with Gabriel.
As a friend of Estelle's, she felt it was her duty to look out for her.
"Coming," Evelyn replied, her eyes trailing Gabriel's figure as she walked towards Magdalen.
Evelyn had met Emily and the others before, and Magdalen introduced Sylvia to Emily and Marina.
Sylvia had an easygoing and gentle demeanor that made her instantly likable, so even though it was their first meeting, they all hit it off right away.
Magdalen turned to Emily, "Where's Kya? How come you and Charlie didn't bring her along?"
Emily chuckled, "Kya's at the old house. She spends her weekends with her grandma and grandpa."
"Oh, right," Magdalen slapped her forehead in realization. "I haven't seen Kya since I got back. I wanted to visit her on Tuesday afternoon, but Ms. Simmons had taken her out for some fun."
"Why don't you drop by in the evening? Estelle will be around too," Emily suggested.
Sylvia smiled, "Her evenings are reserved for Morrison. She wouldn't want to waste a second."
Everyone around them laughed.
Magdalen scoffed, "Don't be too quick to laugh at me. I'm waiting to see when you get a boyfriend."
"For your sake, I'd even pass on getting a boyfriend," Sylvia retorted playfully.
"Don't speak too soon," Magdalen teased, giving Sylvia a knowing look. "There's a catch right there. Make sure you don't let him slip through your fingers. It'd be a loss to let such a great guy go."
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she glanced at Sylvia.
Sylvia's face remained serene with a gentle smile, "If he was never mine to start with, how could it be considered letting him go?"
Magdalen raised an eyebrow, "Really no interest?"
Sylvia took a sip of her drink and shook her head, "None at all."
Magdalen seemed a tad disappointed, "Well, alright then. Maybe I misread the situation."
Sylvia swirled her drink, her gaze lowered, the corners of her mouth lifting ever so slightly.
As the group shared laughs and jokes, Estelle and Jonathan walked in, and everyone stood up to greet them.
"Estelle," Evelyn was the first to approach, reaching out to link arms with her affectionately.
Estelle greeted her with a smile, "You all got here early? We got caught in a bit of traffic and arrived late."
"Not late at all, we've got the whole night ahead of us. No such thing as too late," Magdalen said, slinging an arm around Estelle's shoulders, deftly avoiding Evelyn.
