Part 60
“Whatever happens, no matter how angry you are, never yell at her. If she’s silent, it means there’s something wrong with you and she can’t say it. Never waste her love. Because if she loves, she’ll love with all her heart. But if she’s hurt, she’s very difficult to forgive. Maybe her mouth says she forgives, but her heart doesn’t,” Altezza nodded again at Joanna’s words.
Altezza wanted a better future with Adaline, even though he never said it to her. And he was trying to understand her. He realized that all the attention Adaline had given him so far was genuine. He even realized that until now, Adaline had never asked him for anything. She just accepted whatever he gave her without ever demanding. Adaline, his funny wife. Somehow, every time he saw her smile, his heart felt warm. Somehow, every time he remembered her name, he felt nostalgic.
Altezza was confused about his feelings. On one hand, he wanted to maintain the initial agreement they made. But on the other hand, he wanted to take this relationship to a more serious level. Adaline was the wife he longed for and dreamed of. The ideal wife and perfect future mother. Her attention, affection, and everything about her were the criteria he had always imagined whenever he thought about his future wife.
“Sorry for the wait,” his wife’s gentle voice snapped him out of his reverie. Adaline placed three cups of warm tea in front of them. Somehow, Altezza reached out for her petite hand to accept it. She smiled softly and took his extended hand. When Adaline sat beside him, Altezza wrapped his arm tightly around her waist, closing the distance between them even if it was just an inch.
“Hmmm… I guess it’s time for me to find a partner too,” Joanna teased. Her words made Adaline’s face blush. “So, any good news yet? Who knows, maybe this time when I come back, I’ll receive news that I’ll have a new nephew or niece?” She asked, teasingly.
“Just pray that you’ll receive good news soon. Because, truthfully, I myself am also eagerly awaiting that good news,” Altezza replied honestly.
Adaline bit her lower lip. In her heart, she really wanted to share this happy news with her husband. But she tried to hold back because she felt that the news would be better received when they were together. Yes, Adaline wanted Altezza to be the first to know about her pregnancy.
Adaline is already pregnant. She just found out this afternoon. Again, in the morning, she experienced dizziness and nausea. Tessa asked her to take a pregnancy test. And Adaline followed her friend’s advice.
And thankfully, the result she got was as she had hoped. And indeed, when Adaline counted, she was already over a week late this month. Initially, she thought it might be due to stress because her workload at the office has been piling up lately. But Adaline was mistaken. The doctor said that her last period was not actually a period. Because it turns out she’s already seven weeks pregnant.
They kept talking until it was ten o’clock at night. Adaline is not someone who likes to stay up late. But because their conversation was so engrossing, she lost track of time and ended up staying up late.
Luckily, the next day was a day off. So it seems they didn’t mind sleeping in.
Joanna said goodbye and went back to her apartment even though Adaline had insisted she stay over. Her reason was that she still had work tomorrow. Meanwhile, Adaline was too tired to share the good news she had kept with Altezza. As a result, when they arrived at Adaline’s room, Adaline fell asleep right away. While Altezza went back to her unfinished work.
The next morning, Adaline helped her mother and Emma prepare breakfast. But after breakfast was over, her morning sickness flared up. In the room, she threw up all the breakfast she had eaten. And that surprised Altezza.
Altezza, who was about to leave to check on the project, ended up accompanying Adaline to the bathroom. Patting the woman’s back gently.
“Are you okay, Darling.?” He asked with concern.
Adaline was too weak to answer. Normally, she didn’t vomit this early in the morning. Usually, she would vomit when she arrived at the office, around 8 to 10 in the morning. And it was still 7 o’clock when she started feeling nauseous and dizzy.
“Are you catching a cold?” Altezza asked again, and Adaline shook her head. “Shall we go to the doctor?” she suggested when Adaline finished vomiting all her food. Once again, Adaline shook her head.
Adaline tried to stand up, but her knees felt too weak. Without being asked, Altezza helped her. The man carried her back into the room and sat her down on the bed.
“My bag,” Adaline requested, pointing towards where she kept her bag.
Altezza frowned, but he did as Adaline asked. Adaline handed him a small blue-covered book. Altezza’s forehead furrowed even more.
“What’s this?” he asked, confused. Without waiting for an answer, he slowly opened the book. A black and white photo and the doctor’s writing greeted his eyes. “This…?” Altezza stared at the book, then at his wife in turns.
Adaline smiled and nodded. “I thought it was my period at the time, but it turns out the doctor said it wasn’t. The doctor said it was implantation bleeding. Not menstrual blood.”
“So?”
“So, since then, I’ve been pregnant. The doctor said the pregnancy has reached seven weeks.”
A happy smile never left Altezza’s face. The man hugged Adaline tightly. So happy that he wanted to jump and leap with her. But he remembered there was another creature they had to take care of. Their baby. The child they both longed for.
“Does Mom know?” Adaline shook her head.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
“You’re the first to know,” she replied, her face blushing. “And…”
“And…?” Altezza lowered his head until he could see Adaline still bowing in shyness.
“The baby is twins,” she answered with a radiant smile.
“Oh my God…” the man then prostrated himself in gratitude. Afterward, he rose and hugged Adaline tightly. “Thank you, my love.” Altezza kissed the top of Adaline’s head. “My beauty.” He then kissed her forehead and both of Adaline’s cheeks. “Thank you, God. Mom and Dad will be so happy to hear this news.” He then kissed Adaline’s lips, making her blush even more.
“Al,” she whispered softly. She didn’t expect Altezza to be this happy.
Adaline knew that her husband wanted a child so badly. To the extent that the man in front of her was willing to do things beyond reason. But she truly didn’t expect his reaction to be like this.
Adaline’s heart warmed. Whether it was truly her feelings or she was indeed feeling so loved, so valued, so adored.
“Sorry, I’m just too happy,” he said, lifting Adaline’s body easily so that she now sat on his lap.
Altezza hugged Adaline tightly again. Adaline hugged him back. She didn’t want this moment to pass just like that. There was a little fear in her heart. That one day Altezza would leave her. That after this baby was born, Altezza would leave her. Because from the beginning, he only wanted the baby.
But whatever it was, however it would be. Adaline could only pray that God would give the best for their relationship. And the first thing she wanted right now was for her baby to grow up healthy, to be born perfectly without defects.
Altezza continued to hug her and kept expressing his gratitude. Even when he announced her pregnancy to everyone, he never let go of her hand.
