Chapter 8: Heat
Chapter 8: Heat
Ashely's POV
I woke up this morning still very exhausted. A couple of minutes had passed and I'm still laying in bed
staring blankly at the ceiling.
"ASHELY! COME DOWN FOR BREAKFAST," my mom yelled from downstairs as I sighed in
annoyance, "Great! Now I gotta see the two people I hate most in this world," I mumbled while
frustratedly tossing the covers off me.

I walked into the kitchen to see the devil and his son eating their breakfast in silence not acknowledging
each other's presence.
"Goodmorning, honey," my mom greeted catching the attention of both men in the room,
"Goodmorning, mom," I greeted back as I walked past the table completely ignoring their existences

whipped cream, and syrup before making my way out the kitchen.
"Ashely, don't be rude, aren't you forgetting something?" She asked stopping me in my tracks, "I don't
think so, mom," I replied without turning around to face her, "Well, the last time I checked your
stepfather and brother was present in the room also," she said as I scoffed still with my back facing her,
"And the last time I checked, I was an only child and that my father was dead," I said as she gasped,
"Ashely!" She exclaimed, pissing me off to the point where I quickly spin around causing them to flinch
at my sudden action.
"You know what, mom, I'm so tired of pretending, pretending to be happy because you're happy," I said
catching her off guard as she stared at me in shock, "You know, I really wished you had sat down with
me and asked how I felt about another man coming into our lives, but I guess my feelings doesn't
matter," I said before shaking my head as a weak laugh escaped my lips.
"Ashely, I suggest instead of accusing your mother of something you know nothing about, you should-
"Funny you say that Mr.Abdonment because that's the same thing I tried to tell your son when he
accused my mother of being a b**ch, who broke up your happy little family," I said staring at Jake, who
stared blankly back at me as my mother gasp again, "You should really enlighten him on how you were
a greedy, selfish, bastard, who ran away from his resp-
SLAP!!!
My head was now facing the other side of the room as my cheek stung from the previous slap I
received from my mother.
I didn't cry nor did I feel angry or shock, I just stood there emotionless before slowly turning my head to
face her. As I looked into her eyes, I saw a glimpse of guilt before it was consumed by anger.
I gently shoved the plate of food towards her as I didn't have an appetite anymore, "I'm not hungry," I
mumbled before leaving the kitchen, heading back up to my room.

(Jake's POV)
After Ashely left the kitchen, I stood up with my plate in my hand as I walked over to the sink as if this
entire argument didn't happen.
"Jake, what Ashely just mentioned, was it true?" Roger asked in a stern tone as I walked past both of
them on my way out of the kitchen.
"Don't walk away from me, boy, I'm speaking to you," he said stopping me in my tracks, "Why would
she lie, and don't talk to me as if you're my father because you're not," I said before walking away as
the sound of a chair knocking over was heard.
I scoffed at the thought of him getting angry, 'he doesn't scare me, he never did and never will.''
I thought before exiting the house.

(Ashely POV)
I entered my bedroom slamming the door behind me as I felt some sort of heavyweight being lift off my
shoulder.
I sat on my bed before running both hands through my hair as I sighed, "I can't stay in this house, "I
mumbled before fishing my phone. I scroll through my contacts before I stopped on Anna's but I
decided not until Jay's name came into sight. I debated whether or not I should call him and why should
I call him?
I shoved all questions aside and pressed the call button but immediately regretted it as I heard it began
to ring.
"Hello?" My heart skipped a beat as I heard his voice and since the phone was on speaker, I quickly
replied, "Hey, Jay, it's Ashely," I replied trying my best not to stutter, "Oh, hey, Ashely, what's up?" He
asked as I sighed, "Um, I know it's not three yet a-and I'm sure you're busy, but I don't want to be at my
house right now," I said as there was silence before he spoke, "Is everything okay?" He asked as I
sighed again, "Could you come to pick me up, I don't want to talk about this over the phone," I said as I
heard the sound of the keys, "I'm on my way," he said as I smiled, "Thanks, Jay," I said before hanging
up.

(Jake's POV)
I stood outside the house smoking a cigarette as it somehow brought me relief. I stared into space not
noticing a car that pulled up in front of the house. I tossed the burned-out cigarette as I stepped on it
while staring at the car with a furrow.
"What the f**k is he doing here?" I murmured as I stared intensively at the person that came out of the
car. I was about to approach him but was stopped by the sound of the front door opening which caught
my attention.
There was Ashely exiting the house dressed nicely. As she noticed my presence, she gave me an
annoyed look before walking past me, "Ashely, where are you going and why is he here?" I asked as I
followed behind her, "Mind your business and my whereabouts don't concern you and neither does the
people I hang out with," she said in a cold tone as my jaw clenched while watching her approach him.
For some reason, my blood began to boil as I watched them embrace each other before they got into
his car before driving away.
The thought of him being alone with her makes my blood boil for some unknown reason.
