Chapter 28
Chapter 28
The more Angeline thought about it, the angrier she got. She shifted her gaze to the guy’s back and shouted, “Mr. Golding, I will definitely win this competition. I just pray that you won’t mess with my scores from behind the scenes. After all, that would make you incredibly petty and unmanly.”
Evander stopped walking as soon as he heard those words. Anger rose within him.
That was the first time someone had blatantly insulted him like that. Who the h*ll does she think she is?
Evander frowned. When he turned around, however, he realized that Angeline was already nowhere to be seen.
It seemed that Angeline didn’t have the guts to stay even a second longer. By the time Evander turned around, Angeline had already gone to the other side of the road and had gotten into the taxi she had just hailed.
Evander looked ahead and happened to catch her getting into that taxi. That made his thin lips curve into an evil smile.
Suddenly, he was curious. He wanted to see just how long she could handle the pressure.
Angeline had her hand on her chest and was breathing unevenly in the taxi. The rage she felt simply wouldn’t fade away.
She had never met someone that unreasonable before.
Regardless of what the situation was, though, she still had to work hard on that project to destroy any misconception Evander had about her.
Angeline ended up spending days at home working on that project because she had a few days off.
Starlight Jewelry had already sent the script for the advertisement to her company.
The short video would go on for about ten minutes and would feature two women. It demanded superb acting skills.
Angeline practically started off as a nobody in the entertainment industry and had to learn a lot to become that successful. Hence, she was nothing like Denise, who depended heavily on the paparazzi to become famous. That was why Angeline’s victory in that competition seemed inevitable.
The day of shooting the advertisement for Starlight Jewelry was less than a week away.
Angeline rested in the tub and had her feet underneath the bubbles. She thought long and hard about it, but eventually, she grabbed her phone and sent Nancy a message: I’m bored. Get me a job. Please?
Evander had publicly asked to replace her the day they signed the contract at Golding Group. Hence, many companies canceled their contract with her out of fear that they might accidentally offend him.
As a result, Angeline lost dozens of jobs, and every single one of them was a source of income for her.
It didn’t matter, though. If she were to get the job as Starlight Jewelry’s spokesperson, everyone would fight to hire her.
Ding! Angeline was just getting comfy in the tub when her phone rang. She picked it up and saw that Nancy had replied to her text. She texted: There is nothing major for now, but there is a small job. It’s for an event that a real estate developer will be holding. The job will last about four hours, and they’ll pay three hundred thousand. Interested?
Angeline got excited as soon as she finished reading that text. The job might not be a big one, but it was easy, and the pay was great. Oh, I’m not going to let this lucrative job slip out of my grasp.
Angeline replied via text right away: I’ll take it! Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
The event in question occurred that Friday.
It would take place in La Posh Hotel, which was in the city center. The hotel’s exterior looked as regal as a palace, and the hall could fit a few thousand guests. They had to get a few halls to fit everyone, but the tight security made it clear that the event was an exclusive one.
Bentleys and other luxurious cars stopped at the entrance, suggesting that the people invited to the party were all powerful figures.
Angeline’s driver used a minivan to drop her off at the hotel. When the security guard by the entrance saw the car, he waved to stop her. “Hold on. Do you have an invitation to the party?”
Angeline, who was in the backseat, rolled down the window and said, “Hi, I’m Angeline Sorelle, and Mr. Halls asked me to drop by for the opening ceremony.”
The Mr. Halls in question happened to be issuing orders at the entrance at the time, so he overheard the conversation. That prompted him to jog to her. “Hey, isn’t this the superstar, Angeline Sorelle? Welcome. Thank you so much for being here today.”
Angeline opened the door and offered him her hand. As they shook hands, she said, “Well, you extended the invitation, Mr. Halls, so it’s only right that I show up. Should I go to the hall right now?”
Her kind words got the man smiling, and he replied, “There’s no need to hurry. Let me take you to a private room so you can change your clothes.”
“Okay,” replied Angeline. She nodded and told the driver to park the car. After that, she grabbed her purse and left with the man. She kept a low profile the entire time to avoid detection by the media.
After Angeline reached backstage, she was taken to a changing room that was obviously reserved for VIPs. Only the makeup artist was there, and the table at the side was filled with luxurious makeup.
Since the event took place at night, the celebrity’s outfit needed to be elegant. Angeline had a light yet stunning makeup on and was wearing a dark blue gown. She paired all that with a fur coat and tied her hair into a beautiful bun.
Soon, night fell, and the guests showed up one after another. Everything was going smoothly, and the party was on.
The preparation on site was done, and the powerful business tycoons, real estate developers, and their companions for the night were all there.
Angeline showed up and greeted her employer before she did anything else.
“Ms. Sorelle, we have another very important guest who hasn’t shown up yet, so the ceremony might be slightly delayed,” said the guy as he smiled warmly. He grabbed a pair of ceremonial scissors and handed them to her. When he looked at her again, his eyes shone with astonishment.
No wonder she is a celebrity. She really can stand out from the crowd.
“It’s fine. I don’t mind waiting a little longer,” replied Angeline as she took the scissors.
Quite a few of her fans had gathered around the entrance, and they cheered while holding her photo.
Angeline kept smiling at them. She didn’t expect them to go all the way to that place to support her, even though it was that late at night.
Soon, lights from a car came, and a dark grey Bentley slowly stopped by the entrance.
“Hey, check out the car’s plate. That means Evander Golding is here,” said one reporter. That prompted everyone else to hurry forward with their cameras.
Evander?
Angeline’s hand stiffened as she held the ribbon. She genuinely wondered if she was hallucinating.
When Evander’s name was mentioned, every guest in the hall became so excited that they ran forward.
The hotel’s security guards had to step up and stop them from getting too close to the car. It didn’t take long before the door to the car was opened, and someone tall stepped out of the vehicle.
Evander straightened his collar and stared at the cheering crowd. His gaze remained as icy as ever.
“Didn’t you tell them to stop the crowd from gathering?” asked Evander as he shifted his gaze to Sylas.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Golding. I’ve already asked them to do so, but the crowd is too enthusiastic, and the security guards can’t stop them,” replied Sylas as he followed closely behind Evander.
Evander frowned. He had always preferred silence and serenity, so a hint of frustration and irritation glowed in his eyes. He wouldn’t have bothered to show up if Golding Group didn’t need to participate in the project.
Ugh, it’s so crowded and noisy.
Just then, the party’s host, who was also a real estate developer and Angeline’s employer, stepped forward to welcome Evander. “Mr. Golding, it’s been so long since we last met. Thank you for coming. It is such an honor to have you here.”
“Your words are too kind. Golding Group gave you full authority over this project because we know you have what it takes to make the most of it. This is an amazing business deal that benefits both sides greatly. Here. I got you this gift. Please accept it,” said Evander while shaking the guy’s hand. One look from Evander was all it took to get Sylas to hand the gift over.
“Thank you, Mr. Golding. Please, come in. We’re waiting for you to cut the ribbon,” replied the real estate developer while smiling. Just like that, Evander ended up walking to the stage with a bunch of elderly men circling around him.
Angeline widened her eyes and stared in disbelief when she finally saw the guy and realized that he truly was Evander. Coincidentally, Evander, who had been moving toward her, paused.
His sharp gaze landed on her.
When he saw her there, his pupils constricted in surprise before an amused grin crept up on his lips.
“It’s impressive how great you are at creating coincidences, Ms. Sorelle.”
As the two of them looked into each other’s eyes, the look of disdain was evident in his gaze, and that frightened Angeline so much that her legs were trembling.
