Chapter 177 S2| Mother In-law

"Sorry I didn't attend your wedding. I didn't get any news at that time." Melanie raised an eyebrow.

The curve of Kara's lips froze. After a moment of silence, she nodded. "It's okay, Mom. It was our fault

that we missed you from the invitation list."

Melanie's cheeks twitched slightly. She didn't expect her daughter-in-law to dare answer like that.

"I've always wondered what it would be like to chat with my daughter-in-law. Do you have time? How

about we chat outside?"

The invitation sounded like a challenge. Kara accepted it with a small nod even though her heart was

pounding violently. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Arriving at the upper balcony, the two of them sat flanking a table.

"Would you like something to drink, Mom? Tea, perhaps?" Kara took out her cell phone, preparing to

send a message to Nora.

"When did you first meet my son?" Melanie threw a new question. While Kara was stunned, she added,

"I really can't wait to find out how my son fell in love with you."

Kara blinked for a moment. Knowing her mother-in-law's true intention, she lowered her phone and

straightened her back.

"We met by accident."

Melanie suddenly covered her mouth with one hand. "So, the incident was true? I think the media is

exaggerating to bring Frank down. So, my son married you because he was forced to? For the sake of

your children?"

Kara took a deep breath. Her face looked firm.

"The incident was true. We met because we were set up. But one thing you should know, we didn't get

married because we were forced to."

Melanie snorted faintly. Her eyes were disdainful. "Really?"

"Frank fell in love with me before he knew about our children. If you don't believe it, just ask him, his

assistant, or the bodyguards. They would agree that Frank was the one who’s desperate to win my

heart."

The curve of Melanie's lips turned downwards. A second later, she sneered. "I didn't expect you to be

so confident."

"I'm not confident, but rather conveying the facts. You need to know that our marriage is not forced. We

love each other and will never be separated."

Melanie's lips began to tremble. Her cheeks twitched, trying to suppress it.

"You know what? I used to think like that too. I thought Frank's father really loved me. But as it turned

out?"

Melanie let out a barren laugh. "You know the facts. I wasn’t Norman's only woman. Even though I had

given him a son, his heart was still split."

Suddenly, Melanie leaned closer. Her voice dropped drastically. "If I may make a suggestion, don't be

too sure. Infidelity can pass down to the child. Frank may have another. Now or later."

Kara replied with a small smile. "Frank is different from his father."

"How do you know? You've never met Norman."

"I often hear stories about him," Kara said firmly.

"From Frank's mouth?" Melanie's lips curved crookedly. "Doesn't it mean he could have manipulated

the story?"

Kara suddenly fell silent. She didn't know how to argue. She had no strong evidence yet.

"I'm not demeaning my own son. But, as a fellow woman, I want to remind you. Don't let you suffer the

same pain as me before."

"Well then," Kara tilted her head, "do you have any other suggestions? What should I do so that Frank

doesn't repeat his father's mistakes?"

Melanie chuckled. "Nothing. Just accept your fate. Moreover, you come from a poor family. Your

background is bleak, your qualities are lacking."

While Kara tried to keep smiling, Melanie narrowed her eyes. "You are nothing without Rowan's

inheritance. You are rich because of his influence. So, prepare yourself if one day, Frank finds a woman

who shines more than you. You will definitely be abandoned."

"Sorry, Mom. Why are you talking as if your husband left you? Didn't he choose to leave his girlfriend

for you?"

Melanie's expression turned tense. Before she could respond, Kara continued, "All this time, Frank has

always said that he feels sorry for Vivian Bell. His father has treated her unfairly. Is it possible ... there

was a secret that only the two of you know? Norman Harper apparently preferred his old girlfriend?"

Melanie started to grind her teeth. Her hands were clenched, her face gloomy. How could Kara attack

her back?

Knowing that her mother-in-law was cornered, Kara smiled faintly. "If that's true, does it mean you’re

shining less than Mrs. Bell?"

Suddenly, Kara covered her mouth with her hand, imitating Melanie earlier. "Isn't that impossible? You

came from a wealthy family and your abilities were definitely far above hers. There's no way you could

lose to Vivian Bell, right?"

"You!"

Just as Melanie was rebuking, Kara got up from her chair.

"Sorry, Mom," she interrupted with a sweet smile, "I think our conversation should stop here. There's no

point in us hurting each other. As women, shouldn't we support each other?"

After raising an eyebrow, Kara nodded slightly.

"Thank you for this little conversation, Mom. I have better understanding now. It turns out that you are

an extraordinarily good person. I appreciate your concern for me. But, don't worry. Frank is not what

you imagine. I believe he can't possibly abandon me for the sake of whatever."

Melanie opened her mouth. Before a word was spoken, Kara interrupted, "Please excuse me. I have

an appointment with your son. I can't make him wait if I want him to always be by my side."

Melanie sighed in disbelief. Kara had looked away and she could only see her back.

"Jeez!" She cursed in her heart. "Turns out she's not an easy enemy. At this rate, I have to act faster."

‘How can I have such a mother-in-law?’

Closing her eyes, Kara tried to calm down. But, after a few breaths, a voice greeted her.

"Queen Bee?"

Kara quickly opened her eyes. "Frank?"

"What are you doing here?"

Before Frank reached the door, Kara approached him. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I just need some

fresh air." She hugged him tightly.

Frank's eyebrows rose. "Are you nauseous again? Is it possible you're pregnant?"

Kara let out a laugh. "Not that fast, Frank. I think it's because of jetlag."

"Then how about we just take a nap? Work can be postponed." Frank tucked her hair behind her ear.

"A real nap?" Kara looked at him suspiciously.

Frank bit his lip. "Maybe we can also speed up the process of adding children."

"Even though I'm already weak and wrinkled?"

Frank stroked Kara's flushed cheek. "What I love is your soul. No matter how your appearance

changes, you will look beautiful in my eyes."

Kara's eyes started to fill with tears. The burden in her heart suddenly disappeared.
