Hint of Darkness and Light

Sweet Tooth

Verena’s POV

Anxiety is killing me. I still can’t comprehend the fact that this stupid mark has a say in my life. Considering of all the works I’ve left in the organization to lift the world and make it better against evil people and just one day lurky and creepy folks marked and announced that I’m a destroyer. Seriously?

“You ready?” Damon asked while scanning me.

I wore a comfy crop top tee and and sweatpants to match the rebellion with my clothes.

“What do you think?” I rolled my eyes and the demon only grin coyly.

“You could really wear what you want, I can hear your thoughts whirling.” His brows arched.

“You could even hear my thoughts? That’s invading of my privacy.”

“If I desire I can clearly read minds but after hearing stupid shits for decades I disclosed the ability.”

Rolling my eyes, I started to turn, and then my stupid mouth opened. “And what about now? That ain’t disclosed though.”

“We should do something with your pretty mouth sometimes.” He chuckled. His sexy chuckle and the fact he called my mouth pretty is honorary annoying.

Ignoring that, I got out of his bed chamber before he can make some remarks I won’t like.

Damon followed me until we step out of his house.

“I must value how different your perspective with this situation Verena. I admit that I’ve done horrible things to you before but I’m sorry… if it’s the things that makes your stay here so uncomfortable.” The sincerity of his voice clouded my mind.

I made a closed mouth sound of annoyance as my heart immediately went to war with my brain over why I was considered something the Prince valued. My heart, which gave a happy little flop, was obviously stupid.

“It’s not, to be honest. I really don’t care, the thing is I just want to step back to my old life. This isn’t it Damon, and forcing this to me is a lot to swallow.” I truthfully muttered.

He grabbed my wrist to stop me from walking.

“We will take small steps okay?” He said as his eyes peered into me.

“Why are you doing this? For what?”

“I told you, my wolf wants to know if you are my mate.”

“Well I’m not.”

“How could you say so?”

He let go of my wrist so we can continue walking across the eerie forest. It’s still getting creepy to think that this is connected to his feelings. I mean how?

“Just feels like it.” I quietly said.

“Did you ever had spontaneous events in your life that felt odd?”

My brows knitted, “None that I know of.”

“But you do have horns. From my observation they only reveal when you’re having uneasiness or burst of emotions.”

“I can’t even analyze how could I even produce horns.”

“I don’t know too.” He said that surprised me. I thought he knows everything huh.

He continued, “We’re partly close to witches long time ago, but then the war made the witches as the enemies of the entirety.”

“You guys also has wars? In the human world, war happens within country not with other kinds.”

“It was long time ago, even humans know our existence back then. They are treated as the low life for having zero abilities besides reproducing and living for survival.”

“Pathetic, glad to be on the witch’s side.” I smiled coyly at him.

“Witches and wizards are pretty intense, they have hard ways to believe things. Father said that they even believe that hunger is for the dimwitted.” His gaze turned to me.

“Wow that’s more… weird.”

“I think our lineage is only the sane one.” He smirked.

“Is having mates and linkage not insane? I mean you’ll only love one person in your whole entire life? What if you’ll live for decades without knowing your mate.” I asked curiously.

“Well clearly fates considered those things so finding our mate is pretty well expected at 18 years old.”

“What about you?”

“I stopped aging at 18 and you weren’t born in that timeline. Fates makes sure everything is well planned before giving us our lives.” He glanced down at me.

I almost tripped, “I’ve read somewhere that vampires can’t live without blood?”

I’m afraid for my life. If this man is truly fated to me he could just grab me by the neck and sip my blood occasionally.

“If you’re scared that I’ll drink your blood to appease my hunger that will only happen if you’ll agree. I won’t force you to do things that might be your turning point to leave again.”

I sighed, there’s no escaping from this man. But he is getting better for being gentle every moment. The duality Mr. Demon Damon this is not so you.

“By the way, will it took you too long to really disperse if I’m your mate?”

“As I said, rules are rules woman. Four months. But for now we’ll figure out about your mark and the Unknowns.”

I stumbled on the big ass stone when Damien appeared infront of us out of nowhere.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“Seriously Damien?” I gave him my most sarcastic tone but he only shrugged.

“Hurry up people,” he rolled his eyes like a girl pissed with her date.

Damon position his self infront of me.

“What?” I asked.

“I’ll carry you.” He said.

“Why?”

Damien groaned like he’s in pain with my dumbness.

I wrap my arms in his neck for support and anchored my legs to his body. He secured me tightly.

My nostrils fill with Damon’s cedar and woodsy scent but also with my elevated pheromones until I can almost taste them. When he noticed I was checking his scent he smirked and the devil smirked sexily and that’s a crime.

Damon started running irrevocably fast as the wind, I can feel my eyes dry from the impact of the wind gushing through my face.

The path seems longer than expected but luckily we didn’t have to cross the waterfalls.

Blocks of houses met my gaze. Damon helped me to my feet. We lost track of Damien because of his laziness to turn into his werewolf form so he basically wanted to run instead.

“We’ll be meeting them formally.” Damon said while he made sure I was standing soundly.

“Who?”

“Some of the higher ups from the pack. Maybe we will held a meeting to discuss business because I’ve been avoiding those for days.”

“Should I be with you during the meeting?” I ask.

He ignored my question.

Few buildings stood in front of the houses. Candy shops and even a theater house. Kids are lined up in the candy shop, their laughter can be heard from the buzzing machines working west side in the farm.

Some of them are fighting for the line while an older woman guide the others. They point what treats they want and leave the line immediately as they accepted the bag of candies of their choices. My brows knitted.

“They don’t need to pay for the candies they want. But to ensure the young pups health their parents need to sign up a waiver for their limitations. The candy shop only opens during busy days to keep them pre occupied while their parents are at work.” Damon explained.

“That’s…” My heart warmed. This kids can freely experience the privilege of life unlike in the human world that kids need to sell their souls for a single penny.

“Are you a sweet tooth?”

“Well kinda but I don’t really have time to buy sweets because I’m busy with work and I run a bar at night.” I sighed.

“Bar huh?”

“Source of income other than stalking I guess.”

“We’ll get you a bag later after breakfast.”

“Seriously?” My face lit up like a freaking kid who wants to open a present on Christmas eve.

“What makes you happy Kinzhe, sure.”
