Chapter 188
“Mom! Didn’t I just tell you? I knew there was something fishy about those two! Marilla is trying to mess up my thing with him!”
When Glynnis saw Jareth dressing Marilla in an expensive red evening gown, her heart filled with jealousy. Marilla’s face was fresh and natural. No makeup was needed, and she still looked gorgeous as hell
Even more annoying, they were both wearing the same shade of wine red, looking like a freaking couple! This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Standing side by side under the bright lights, they looked like newlyweds, hogging all the attention.
Glynnis felt like her own purple dress was a slap in the face
Red and purple, what a horrible combo!
“Marilla is my flesh and blood, I know what kind of person she is!”
Unlike Glynnis, Elspeth looked deeper into the situation. “Although Marilla is already 22, she acts like an 11–year–old kid. She’s not mature enough to date, let alone steal your man. Do you think she has the guts and wits for that?”
Glynnis cooled down a bit, but she was still pissed off.
“I think it’s more complicated than you think Jareth was cold to you before, and after Hamiltion’s birthday party, he probably figured out your intentions and started to dislike you. He knows Marilla is your sister, so he’s getting close to her on purpose, just to piss you off.”
“What?” Glynnis felt dizzy. “What should I do, Mom? Is there no hope for me to marry Mr. Jareth?”
“Now you need to be more patient than ever. Not only do you need to cooperate with Edith to get close to Jareth, but you also need to change your attitude and keep your cool. If Jareth is nice to Marilla, you should be nice to her too, show him your kind and cute side. Got it?” Elspeth gave her daughter some serious advice.
“I got it.” Glynnis replied helplessly.
Meanwhile, not far away
Marilla was looking around for Ada, her eyes wide open with excitement.
However, when she saw Edith playing the piano on stage, her eyes contracted. Her face turned pale, and she started to lose her vitality like a withering flower.
She was trembling beneath her red dress.
The countless memories of humiliation and ridicule from her childhood flooded back, and she felt a wave of despair.
“Who would be friends with a dummy like you? What the hell are you thinking about?”
‘Throw her in the trash! That’s where she belongs!”
“Cut off her hair! I hate any girl at school with better hair than me!”
“Even Mr. Frederic and Elspeth don’t like you, and your sister despises you too. Do you think you are worthy of being Miss Abernathy? You are a disgrace to the Abernathy family!”
Disgrace. She was the disgrace!
On stage, Edith was fully focused on playing the piano, completely unaware of the pair of hateful eyes staring at her from the crowd.
Marilla’s eyes were bloodshot as she hugged her teddy bear and started to back away. Cold sweat dripped from her forehead.
Suddenly, her arm was grabbed by Jareth.
“Marilla, what’s wrong? Are you shy? Didn’t you say you wanted to meet Ada and get her autograph? Come, let me take you to her.”
However, Marilla violently shook off his hand and ran towards the door without looking back.
“Marilla! Where are you going?”
Jareth was taken aback, fearing that she might run into some danger late at night, so he ran after her.
Glynnis was fuming with anger.
Even though Elspeth told her to keep her cool, seeing Jareth caring so much for this idiot made her grind her teeth. It was too much to bear.
Marilla was filled with fear as she ran out of the hotel. She ran crazily towards the road, tears streaming down her face.
She really wanted to meet Ada, as she was used to spending many lonely nights watching movies alone.
She loved the movies Ada starred in. The lead character was invincible, always defeating the bad guys. It filled her with excitement, as if she was living a dream.
But in reality, seeing Edith made her want to run away as far as possible!
She was a burden no one cared for, a fragile waste!
The insults and ridicule chased her like a demon from hell.
“Honk honk honk!”
The sudden car horn blared.
Not far away, a pair of blinding headlights shone on her.
She turned around, her face looking pale under the light!
But she froze in place, unable to move!
The speeding truck was too late to stop, Marilla hugged her teddy bear tightly, closing her eyes in fear.
“Manilla! Watch out!”
At the critical moment, Jareth rushed forward, holding her frail body tightly in his arms.

Just as she protected her teddy bear, he protected her with all his might.
Then, he turned himself into a cushion as they fell heavily onto the ground.
His shoulder hit a stone by the roadside, and the pain made him let out a muffled groan, sweat soaking his suit.
The truck, in an attempt to avoid hitting them, crashed into a flowerbed by the roadside, luckily the driver was unharmed.
Jareth was in pain all over He let go of Marilla.
But to his surprise this heartless little girl crawled out of his arms and ran away without a trace!
“Hey! Marilla, come back! At least help me up!”
Jareth was in so much pain he couldn’t get up, and he was so angry he could spit blood.
The hype for tonight’s bash was spot on, initially grabbing all the eyeballs but ending up fizzling out real quick.
The news of Jareth’s car accident was kept under wraps by his secretary to prevent his sis and mom from freaking out. So, Edith didn’t bolt as soon as the party was over, but instead, she kicked back with Glynnis at Abernathy Hotel’s bar. Damn it! Thaddeus really has a thing for that Evadne!” Edith slammed her gla** down, her eyes flashing with anger, “If he’s so into her, why did he divorce her?” “Edith, you’re not the only one who’s clueless, I’m in the dark too” Glynnis propped up her head with her hand, looking puzzled, “Before they split, Evadne was practically a maid in our house, taking care of Thaddeus’s every need and tailing him around every day. She cooked for us for three years. Three years! I get fed up with cooking for a single day, and she endured it for three years, I gotta give her props for that. But Thaddeus didn’t give a damn about her. He only had eyes for Acacia and even ditched Evadne who was head over heels for him. I used to think Thaddeus was right, but now I gotta say, he was blind as a bat.” Glynnis started spilling the beans after a few drinks.
Edith’s face darkened even more. She snorted, “Glynnis, are you standing up for Evadne? Are you bummed she can’t be your sis–in–law anymore?” “No, no. Edith, you got me all wrong
Glynnis realized she put her foot in her mouth and quickly laughed it off, “I was just trying to help you figure it out. I don’t get why Thaddeus was indifferent to her before the divorce but started caring after Is this a case of late blooming love? Or is it true that the one you can’t have is the one you can’t forget?”
After hearing this, Edith took a big gulp of her drink, filled with a strong desire to win, “I don’t believe Thaddeus has any feelings for Evadne! They were married for three years, if there were any feelings, why would they divorce? Thaddeus is just jelly because his ex–wife is doing well. The more jelly he gets, the more he wants to keep tabs on her!”
With that, she ran her fingers through her long hair and laughed arrogantly, “I have a connection with Thaddeus, Evadne doesn’t hold a candle to me, definitely likes me. He’s just temporarily blinded by Evadne!”
Glynnis rolled her eyes secretly but didn’t respond.
She always felt this girl was full of herself, but she couldn’t shoot down Edith. After all, she was counting on her to marry into the Fairhaven family! “Glynnis, we must find a way to rope in Ada to help Thaddeus nail this project! I’ll back you up.”
Thaddeus
Edith recalled Evadne’s smug face when she showcased Twilight, her eyes turning red with hatred, “Isn’t it just a brooch? It’s not the only thing Alea has designed. If Evadne can pull it off, so can I!”
