Chapter 0025
While Amara peaceful snoozed in the comfort of her mattress, Tobias sat in the dim atmosphere of his office, reading through the same article she had read and re-watching the video attached.
The first two times he watched the video, he had refused to believe that it was just as the article had said, that Celestine purposefully pushed herself into the pool to gain sympathy and attention. But the more he watched the video, the more he saw that Celestine had indeed fallen into the pool herself.
She hadn't been pushed.
'But if that's true,' He thought. 'Then, why would she go out of her way to make it seem as if Amara pushed her?'
He knew Celestine wasn't the type of person who would do such a thing. At least, he thought she wasn't. But now, after seeing those pictures and this video, he was left with an uncertain feeling that wasn't settling all too well with him.
What feeling this was, Tobias wasn't given enough time to figure it out as the sound of someone knocking on his office door snapped him out of his thoughts.
Closing his phone and placing it down, he faced the door and called. "Come in."
The door opened and Dean stepped in.
"Sir," He greeted with a bow after closing the door behind him.
"Do you need something, Dean?"
"Not exactly, Sir. I actually came to report to you." Stepping forward, he handed a brown envelope over to Tobias. "Remember when you told me to look into the company who had purchased Ms. Wood's cosmetics line? I've finally come up with something. I managed to trace the money that was paid to a Ms. Woods bank account and discovered the company's name. They're called Synergy, a leading business body in the computer and technology sector and currently, they're undergoing an inauguration for a new branch head here in London."Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
"Synergy." Tobias mumbled and as he finished going through the details provided on the paper. Everything was accurate except for the identity of the new branch head which was yet to be disclosed. But that didn't matter to him. "Keep an eyes on them. If I have any instruction, I'd let you know." He said as he handed the envelope back to Dean, who nodded.
"Yes, sir." He replied, ready to leave. But Tobias suddenly called out to him.
"Dean. Investigate Cera's real life in New York over the past six years." He ultimately couldn't resist making this decision.
The following day, Lorenzo showed up at Amara's place, ready to drive her to work.
"Are you nervous?" He asked as he
maneuvered his way towards Synergy's building which stood tall, towering over all the other buildings around it.
"Not at all." Amara answered honestly. "Father did use to take us to the company as kids, so I'm not unfamiliar with the atmosphere."
"Right." Lorenzo agreed, chuckling as he recalled the distant memory. "The good 'ol days, huh?" He muttered.
"Mn. The good 'ol days." Amara
replied, mirroring the smile on her brother's lips. But it quickly faded as a thought crossed her mind. "Lorenzo?"
He hummed in response, keeping most of his attention on the road.
"Remember what we discussed, yeah?"
"About not revealing your identity? Why do you want to keep it hidden even in father's company."
"That's the point, it's father's
company. Many people would think I'm simply inheriting it because I'm his blood. I don't want that to happen." Looking out the window, she added. "I want to show people that I'm more than that, that I'm not just riding on father's coattails. I want to show them that I can be the best branch head this company has ever seen, better than all the ones that came before me. So," Turning to Lorenzo and smiling, she pressed her finger to her lips. "Can you keep it a secret, till I'm ready to reveal myself?"
Smiling, Lorenzo reached over and ruffled her hair. "Alright. It's a promise. I won't reveal your identity. Not until you're ready." "Thank you, Lorenzo."
The car pulled into the premises of Synergy right after their conversation.
"We're here." Lorenzo informed as he stepped out and helped Amara out.
Amara admired the huge building before her for a few seconds, inhaling deeply and then nodding to herself.
