His Identity

Chapter 28

The following day, being the last day of the working week, Rita walked into the office building. She had a renewed strength, vowing that nothing would spoil her day. She wanted to finish up with her workload so she could leave early and prepare for Theresa’s arrival.

“I… Don’t worry about picking me up this evening, I’m going somewhere from here”, she said.

She was in her office with Rodrigo. The chaffeur had a confused expression on his face as he tried to determine what she was saying.

“It’s okay Rita, I could drive you wherever you want”, he said.

He moved closer to her, giving her hands a gentle squeeze. Rita didn’t want him knowing where she was going. She wanted an alone time with her friend, away from her parents and even Rodrigo. Not that she had stopped loving him, far from it. She just wanted to be alone for some time.

“I promise, don’t worry about it. If there’s anything amiss, I’ll give you a call”, she said, kissing him full on the lips.

“You don’t need to, I’ll find you. I’ll always find you”, he smiled.

His smile nearly broke her resolve and she almost broke her resolve. She kept her mouth shut, settling for a nod instead.

He left soon and Rita felt downcast. She hated keeping things away from him but this time around, she just had to. She wanted to be alone for one night to clear her head.

Later on, at the close of work, Rita drove home herself. When she got home, she took a long shower, washing her hair in the process. When she was done with this, she selected a dress from her over filled wardrobe. It was a skimpy black dress that hugged all her curves. She packed her hair in an updo fashion, loving the way it curled naturally.

When she stared at herself in the mirror, she smiled at her appearance. She was going to have so much fun and nothing would ruin it.

Just then, her phone rang. She expected it to be Theresa but the caller ID showed that it was Rodrigo calling. She wasn’t expecting his call, wondering if something was wrong. Suddenly, a thought occured in her mind. What if it was his mother? Could she have died? Rita shuddered, thinking the worse as she picked the call. No doubt, if it was this, she would ditch this outing and rush to wherever he was.

“Sugar girl”, he smiled.

Rita sagged in relief. Everything was alright, the relief she felt within her was palpable as she smiled into the phone.

“Hey love”, she smiled.

She put the call on speaker, placing it on her bed as she wore her strappy heels. When she was done, she made her way to the wardrobe, accidentally knocking over her bedside lamp.

“What was that? Are you outside?”, he said.

She had forgotten how smart he was. He was trained to pick up any sound, even the slightest one.

“I… No, I’m not outside”, she said, biting her lips.

“Sugar girl, are you lieing to me?”, he chuckled.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

“No… I’m not. I accidentally knocked over my bedside lamp”, she said.

“Okay. How are you?”.

Rita knew that he wasn’t convinced but she left it at that. She didn’t want to tell him what she’s up to. No doubt, he’ll stop her from going which she didn’t want.

“I’m fine, just had dinner”, she lied smoothly.

The more she talked to him, the more she found herself lieing. She hated it but she couldn’t seem to control it. She was getting deeper and deeper into the lies and the earlier she ends this call, the better for her.

“Me too. Mom’s asleep and so, I decided to call you before I sleep”, he said.

“That’s so sweet. Thank you. Why don’t you go to sleep, you’ve been overworking yourself lately even when I tell you ti calm down”, she sighed.

“That’s what love does to you. I’m in love with you Rita and I would make sure you you’re protected as best as I can”, he smiled.

“And I love you too darling. Now, go to sleep, I’m fine”, she said.

“See you tomorrow sugar girl”, he said before cutting the call.

Rita sighed, dropping her phone. She hated the way she felt but she couldn’t help it. She promised to make it up to him as soon as she could.

Few minutes later, she walked out of her house. Theresa was already waiting, parked in her Lamborghini. Rita smiled, her friend never failed to show off her car collection and the Lambo was just one of many.

“Oh my gosh! Rita, you look absolutely beautiful”, Theresa gushed.

“As do you my dear”, Rita laughed.

Theresa was dressed in a royal blue halter neck gown over a silver strappy heel which was quite similar to Rita’s. Her long brown hair was packed in a loose ponytail which further accentuated her beautiful face.

“Marco almost prevented me from going. I had to promise him something which for your innocent ears, I will not be saying”, she laughed.

“I prefer not to hear it, that’s between you and your husband”, Rita laughed.

She held her side as tears of joy streamed down her eyes. Anytime she was with Theresa, she always found herself laughing from all her jokes.

“How is Rodrigo”, she asked.

“He’s fine. Can you believe he called me just before I came to meet you. I swear, he could tell that I was up to something. I had to distract him so he wouldn’t pick up on anything I was doing”.

“That’s why he’s your body guard. He’s trained to know what’s going on and I can bet that during your relationship with him, you better not lie because he’ll find out sooner or later”, she said.

“You’re right girlfriend. Sometimes, I wonder if he’s psychic. He seems to know what I’m always thinking about”.

“Same with Marco. I guess it’s a relationship feeling, Marco always seems to know when I’m off”, Theresa said.

She drove down to the entrance of the club and Rita could see that a lot of party goers where already there.

“Is he babysitting?”.

“You bet he is. He gave me till twelve to come back home, I couldn’t argue that one with him. He’s as stubborn as a rock”, Theresa chuckled.

“All the more reason why he loves you”.

“True though. Away from our families girl, let’s party”, Theresa whooped.

She parked the Lamborghini at the designated parking spot, enabling a security system that would alert her if the vehicle was trying to get stolen.

As they walked into the club, Rita could feel so many eyes on her. For a moment, she regretted coming her but she waved that feeling off as the loud beat of the music filled her ears

Rita danced, loosing herself in the moment. She was free just for this night and she wanted to make good use of it. Unbeknownst to her, chaos was waiting to strike.
