Chapter 30
The following day, Rita moved into Edmundo’s house. Her parents promised her that it was for the time being but she knew that they just said this to soften the hurt she felt within her.
Rita made her way outside where Edmundo’s car was parked, already waiting for her. She climbed in, schooling her face. She knew her mother was trying to get her attention but she refused to give her audience.
“Smile Rita, you’re not going to the prison yard”, Edmundo chuckled.
Between the prison and Edmundo’s house, she preferred the prison. At least there, she would be somewhat free from him but in his house, not so much.
“I can’t help but compare the prison to your house. I can’t believe you really convinced my parents to do this. This is the height of it Edmundo and i won’t forget this. Sooner or later, you’ll pay for how you treat me”, Rita said.
She fought to keep her tears in. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing her cry. No doubt, he’ll gloat at the way she appeared weak and defenseless to stop him.
“Rita, you fail to understand that I won’t regret anything. I’m your fiance and I have every right to take you to my home”, he said.
“By going this way? Tell me Edmundo, is this the right way to go about this?”, Rita said.
For the first time since knowing him, he actually looked guilty about what he did but it was gone before she could think about it.
“You tell me Rita. If I had asked you to stay with me voluntarily, would you have agreed? In the world we live today sweetheart, we play games to get what we want”, he chuckled.
“Your game is stupid and senseless Edmundo. Your game doesn’t care if other people’s feelings are hurt along the line. Sometimes, I wonder if you have an atom of human decency in you. You behave the way you like without caring if those around you will be affected or not”, Rita said.
“Rita, I would take anything else from you but do not insult me. I’m your finance and whether you like it or not, we would get married very soon”, he said.
“Fat chance Edmundo. You hear me, fat chance”, she shouted.
“You keep denying what is already certain. Why are you so damn stubborn?”, he smirked.
“I’m stubborn because I know what’s right. Don’t take me for a fool Edmundo, I know all the sick games you play and I can’t wait to let the whole world know what a fraud you are”, she said.
“You really have no idea on what you’re saying. I’ll advice you to stay silent before you land yourself into trouble”, he smiled slyly.
“How can I be quiet when I know what you’re up to. Edmumdo, I promise you, you won’t get away with whatever you’re doing”, Rita seethed.
Edmumdo remained quiet, chuckling lightly as they got to his house. Rita had been here a few times and everytime she saw the house, she couldn’t help but be I awe of the house. Sentor Brabra and his family left no stone unturned when it comes to getting the best things money could buy.
He drove the car all the way to the front entrance, putting it to a stop in front of the wide double doors. A chaffeur came around to open the door, helping her out. When she saw the chaffeur, she couldn’t help but think about Rodrigo. She promise to call him as soon as she was settled.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“Louis, thank you. This is Rita Anderson, my fiancee. She’ll be staying with us as from henceforth”, Edmundo said, throwing the keys to him.
“You’re welcome ma’am, please come with me”, he said.
Rita nodded. There wasn’t much she could do here since it wasn’t her turf. She followed Louis into the house, past winding stairways, past a huge hall that she suspected was reserved for welcoming important guests and finally, they got to a room with huge double doors.
Louis opened the room, ushering her in. She couldn’t help but fall in love with the room. The Queen size bed sat at the middle of the room with a pink satin canopy hanging from it. The murals of the room were lady like, a soft pink design that seemed to cool the nerves of anyone who stepped inside.
The room had a balcony, a set time of doors that led towards it and beyond was a great blue sea. Rita had forgotten that the Brabra’s lived very close to the sea and seeing it now was a reminder that this was one of the most expensive house in the whole country.
“I shall leave you now ma’am, everything you need is within the wardrobe. Dinner would be ready in an hour’s time. Please make yourself comfortable”, Louis said before taking his leave.
Rita snorted. There was no way in hell she could make herself comfortable with the rage of emotions going through her. Her friendship with Theresa seemed like it was over, her relationship with Rodrigo felt like it was on the brink of extinction and what’s more, she had to live with the man and his family she hated.
Rita walked towards the balcony doors, opening it to usher in the cool breeze that seemed to rush in at once. She rested on the rsikinfsy, staring at the far away sea. Her mind was in disarray over what to do. It seemed as if within the past few hours, her whole life had turned for the worse. She sighed, wondering how to pick the pieces of her life back.
The room door opened, Rita whipped around to see who had come in and she discovered that it was Edmundo’s mother, Magdalene. Rita sighed, nor quite ready to deal with the old woman.
“You should learn how to knock before coming in” Rita said.
“Why should I do that in my own house?”, she smirked.
“Even though it’s your house, that doesn’t mean you should barge into the room. At least, you know I’m here?”, Rita seethed.
She couldn’t understand the woman. She was being unreasonable and Rita had no patience to deal with her crap this morning.
“Anyway, I came to welcome you. I’m sure you know the reason why you’re here. If not for your lousy and disgusting behavior, you should have married my son since. But not to worry, now that you’re here I’ll teach you all you need to know about manners”, Magdalene smiled, sadistically.
“I don’t need you to teach me anything. I’m twenty six, a full blown adult and it’s best if you stay on your own and avoid me as much as possible. Magdalene, let’s get this straight. I do not like you and I’m sure i never will. I’m only here because my parents forced me to, I’ll appreciate it if you and your son would stay out of my way. Do this and there would be no trouble between us”, Rita said.
She walked towards the older woman and she took satisfaction in the dear that clouded her eyes. Magdalene took a step back, fearing that Rita would hit her. Rita wouldn’t do that though because she was decent and respectful but the Brabra family were slowly testing her patience.
“I.. you can’t threaten me in my own house”, Magdalene croaked.
Rita knew she was trying to put on a brave front but she was failing woefully. She watched the way her hands shook as she tried to control the emotions waging within her.
“It’s not a threat Mrs Brabra, it’s a fact. Please, I’ll appreciate it if you leave the room. I want to take my bath, Louis informed me that dinner would be ready soon and I want to eat and get all the sleep I need before going to work tomorrow. So please, out with you”, Rita smiled, sweetly.
“You think you’re smart isn’t it? You think you run this show, I’ll show you that you’re still s child and know nothing”, Magdalene seethed.
“First off Mrs Brabra, I don’t think I’m smart, I know I’m smart. I mean, it’s not easy being the President of a huge empire like the Andersons. Secondly, nobody runs this show. The show or whatever you think it is is run by the fates and I’m pretty sure that soon all your little secrets would be revealed, trust me on that”, Rita said.
Magdalene gave her a disgusted look before leaving the room, slamming the door as she left. Rita chuckled, closing the balcony doors as the air became chilled. She made her way into the bathroom, shedding her clothes as she sunk into the bathtub.
She sighed as the warm water cascaded all over her body. She made a promise within herself to call Rodrigo as soon as she was done. She wanted to know how he was feeling concerning everything that had happened. Not knowing what he was thinking made her heart ache. She could only hope she hadn’t lost him even when they’ve barely begun.
