Howling Hearts

Chapter 69

Saige:

I stood at Asher's side combing my hands through his hair. He turned around with fury and hatred filling every inch of his dark eyes.

I pulled my hand back in fear but never broke contact with him. "Now I'll never be able to find my real mate", he growled.

I knew what he meant. It was the talk of his family and all the high-ranking pack members. Scarlet wasn't his real mate and she admitted it.

Although I thought I would be happy about it, I soon realized that wasn't the case.

My mate hated me with every being ever since he found out.

He now would never know if I was his real mate or not and he would no longer be able to find her due to marking me.It seems that some sentences in this chapter require you to read the complete chapters on Job nib.com in order to avoid an incomplete reading experience. I took hold of his hand shakily. Scared that I might anger him even more.

His eyes didn't soften for one minute nor did he try and grab hold of my throat. I was in this middle grey area of hatred and love and I hated every moment of it.

"It's OK Ashy baby, I love you and that's all that matters"

He pulled his hand out of mine and started to get out of bed.

He walked over to me in an angry stride.

I could feel his hatred pound through the floor and up my body with every step he took.

I started walking backwards until I was locked in between him and the wall.

A prisoner by my own mate. I closed my eyes, anticipating the worst.

And although he was still weak since losing his canines, ever since Scarlet visited he had gained some strength.

He was no longer ill, but he was also no longer strong. Suddenly, I felt his hand drag along my cheek gently.

I fluttered my eyes open, watching as the color returned to his eyes.

Those ocean blue eyes that I find myself stranded in.

"Ashy?" I whispered under my breath feeling relieved.

"Saige?" He said in a soft, caring tone, making me smile with butterflies roaming my belly.

"Yes" I said in anticipation, my toes curling in my shoes and my ears burning from happiness.

"Leave and never come back" He said before turning his back on me and making his way back to his bed grabbing hold of that dreadful book before laying down and reading it. I wanted to burn that book the moment I saw Scarlet drop it and Asher pick it up.

Fury and rage filled my heart like a flame, causing my face to go red with it.

"Asher you can't do this" He just held his hand up in a gesture for me to hush it whilst he read the book silently smiling every now and again.

"Do you still love and want her after all of this?" I screamed, not caring what he wanted, since he didn't care about me and my needs.

He closed the book with a loud bang and slowly turned his head to look at me once more.

His jaw was clenched and his grip on the book tightened till the point that I could see a vein threatening to pop.

"No Saige, I don't.

I just respect her and I wish I could've done it long ago.

I am not proud of my actions in the past, but I have learned from them.

I cannot fix all of them, but I will get rid of bad influences within my life, even if it means my other half that I had marked and joined souls with.

And I believe my other half is the worst part of me." He said in a calm tone.

I knew he meant the other half, as in me. I stormed out of the room and into my own.

I've had my own ever since his fangs got ripped out. He said the sight and smell of me disgusted him. I curled up into a ball feeling my heart shatter into a million pieces. Another person that I loved and cared for had been ripped from my grasp thanks to her.

I sat there and wished that I had killed her all the times I had the chance to do so. I could've used just a little too much wolf bane and killed her by accident.

I could've played it off so well and Asher would've coveredit all up in his rage.

There were so many times I could've ended her existence and my life would've been so much easier.

I would've been loved. I would've been praised. And I wouldn't be alone.

I swore to myself that the moment I got another opportunity I would take it without any hesitation and maybe just maybe it would all fall into place.

Just then, a witch appeared in my room with a dark smoke. I realized her immediately. It was my best friend.

Although a lot of wolves and witches rather stayed out ofeach other's ways I and Kim got along.

She was much like me in many respects, but due to her potions and magic, she always got her way. Many times I have approached her in regards to getting Asher to love me. She gave me a couple of potions but warned me that if he meets his mate before marking me.

Things could get tricky. She was my confidant, my party friend and my only family member, not by blood, but by loyalty.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

It was me and her against the world. "You look terrible" She said, making me feel even worse.

"Oh please, even at your best you couldn't compete with me at my worst", I said whilst grabbing a tissue to wipe away the tears.

"Anyway" She said looking at my disheveled self.

"I might have the solution to your ...problems" She continued making her way next to me on the bed.

""And what would that be"

"Oh I'm so glad you asked" She hopped up and down like a little kid receiving sweets.

"I have a connection whom will be willing to change everything into the way you wish it to be. A redo. But it does come at a cost", She said, looking at the ceiling and back at me.

"And what cost would that be?"

"Persuasion and manipulation", she said.

"I was given the offer but I knew you could do thisjob so much better,"

She continued. I sat and thought about it a little. Not that it was a hefty price to pay for a dream to come true.

"What's the catch" I asked, looking back at her, she lifted her shoulders, making me all the more weary.

"I don't know yet, Saige, but I do know that it is a very reliable source. Or at least one with great power" "fine ill do it"
