way out of his vicious grip.

Finally, he let her go.

Her face was flushed. She could smell something burning, and said exasperatedly, “The custard tarts

are burnt!”

“Who cares about those damn tarts?” Damien gritted his teeth. “Is eating all that you know?”

“Yes, it is!” Clarissa said coldly, “Who cares whether the kid’s yours? It has nothing to do with me.”

“Isn’t that why you left the country?” His voice was hoarse.

“There are plenty of reasons for going abroad. The only thing I can tell you for certain is that it was time

for us to break up!”

He suddenly laughed. “Who’s the one who said that? You? Or was there some other reason for you

going abroad? Since you’re so pretty, did you have a fling or an affair while you were abroad?”

Naturally, he was secretly referring to the photos the unknown number had sent to him.

Clarissa had a vibrant love life. There were plenty of people who wanted to be with her.

He was so jealous, he was going to lose his mind. He almost wanted to get her into bed right this

moment.

But now, Damien was a little hesitant. He tried being tough and oppressive in the past, and it had

always repulsed her. This time, he didn’t want to screw things up. He would take things slow.

He stroked her face.

“You bastard!” she said.

Damien took in her appearance. She was getting prettier by the day, and her temperament had

changed as well. In the past, she had been innocent and naive, but now, she was intriguing and

addictive.

When he had seen her at Grandpa Lawrence’s house, he could sense that something was different

about her, but he couldn’t pinpoint it. Now, it seemed that she had matured. She was both elegant and

sexy—it made men go crazy for her.

He continued tracing his fingers over her face. “I think I’m going to change your contact name on my

phone. What do you think of Poppy?”

“I’m not a poppy!” She turned her head away in disgust.

Clarissa knew that poppies were the source of opium and the source of evil. She didn’t want to be

linked to it in any way.

“It’s not up to you to decide.” Damien stared at her, his eyes filled with desire.

She gnashed her teeth. It wasn’t her phone, so obviously it wasn’t up to her.

He reached behind her, wanting to unclasp her bra. She raised a hand to slap him, but he dodged it.

Unbeknownst to them, Neil was standing by the entrance to the kitchen.

“Daddy, Mommy, what are you two doing? The custard tarts are all burnt,” he said.

Clarissa hurriedly jumped off the kitchen counter and took the custard tarts out of the oven. They were

all black, and she threw them away.

“You haven’t eaten, right, Neil? I’ll make you some soup.” Her tone was gentle now that she was

speaking to Neil. “Should I make you a salad as well? Kids need to eat more vegetables.”

“Okay.” Neil nodded.

Damien gritted his teeth. He shot Clarissa a look before pulling Neil out of the kitchen.

She started cooking after that.

Soon, she brought out a big bowl of soup and some scrambled eggs.

“Sorry, but this is all I have at the moment. It’s only enough for you.” She rubbed Neil’s head.

Neil glanced at Damien.

“Couldn’t you just have said that there’s nothing for me?” Damien asked.

She ignored him.

Once Neil was done eating, Damien brought him home.

On the way, Neil said, “Daddy, Mommy asked a lot of questions about you today.”

“Oh? What did she ask?”

“She asked whether you still read.” Neil blinked. “She also asked whether there were any women that

came looking for you. That’s about it.”

“Are you sure she asked about the second thing? Your nose will grow long if you lie, you know.”

“Um…” Neil couldn’t help pinching his nose. “She didn’t. Oh, right, Mommy said she’ll be going back to

Genovia for some summit. Daddy, let’s go home!”

“A summit? When?”

“She said they’ll be departing from the university at nine o’ clock three days from today. Daddy, all the

other kids stay with both their parents. Why do you and Mommy live separately?”

“Because…” Damien suddenly didn’t know how to answer his son. He just said, “How about we go

home in three days, then?”

Neil looked at him. “Are you trying to create a chance meeting with Mommy? That’s a great idea!”
