“Why don’t you buy some units as well? Aren’t they giving you a discount too? Or are you buying a

house from your university? I heard your university’s developing some houses and subsidizing them for

its staff. But if I’m being honest, the New East houses are much better than your university ones. We’re

putting much more into it. Besides, those houses don’t have deeds, right? It has no benefits beyond

Clarissa smiled. “That’s right. They don’t have deeds, and can’t be sold. They wouldn’t be so cheap

“I’ve made quite a lot of money in the past few years thanks to Damien. Don’t underestimate your ex-

husband! His judgement is sharp. He always gets the best deals. My bet is that this project in Florin will

make him a few billion,” Ray said.

As expected, it was difficult to make money unless you had lots of it beforehand.

In any case, Clarissa had never underestimated Damien. His natural talent and smarts for business

were aspects she had always admired. He was at the peak of her regard, so high up that she could

barely see it. In her mind, he was always far beyond her and anyone else.

So when it came to the ad on the dating website, had he been the one to write about his annual salary

Clarissa wanted to ask Ray to lend her some money. After all, she would miss the chance after this.

Ray sent Clarissa back to Marble Garden. Due to the meeting in the afternoon, Ray went up for a visit

as well. After a while, he got ready to go to Eden Investments.

Ray regarded the decorations of Clarissa’s home. They were simple, with books everywhere.

“I never expected you to become a scholar,” Ray commented.

Clarissa was stunned by this. Patrick had wanted Damien to become a scholar. In the end, he hadn’t

become one. Instead, Clarissa did. Life was truly unexpected.

After cleaning up a bit, Clarissa left with Ray.

When she got downstairs, she bumped into Chanel.

Ray was getting the car while Clarissa waited.

After their previous encounter, Clarissa found it a bit uncomfortable to see Chanel. This time, she

wanted to avoid Chanel.

“I haven’t seen you in a while,” Chanel said.

“I went back home to see Neil for a few days. I just got back.” Thinking about how Neil had been sick,

she also recalled that Logan had been sick as well. Damien had been so careful with Logan, so much

that it made her unhappy.

“Are you going out?” Chanel asked.

“Yes, I’m going to Eden Investment for a meeting.” After that, Clarissa left and got into Ray’s car.

Chanel couldn’t get a good look of who had been driving. She had been standing to the right of the

back of the car. The windows of Ray’s car were very well tinted, so she couldn’t see very well into the

car.

After the car drove off, Chanel remained standing there.

Since Clarissa had been home to see Neil, Chanel assumed Damien was the driver.

And yet, Damien ignored her pointedly as he drove away.

Chanel thought she had gotten much closer to Damien thanks to Logan. However, it seemed that it had

been a one-sided hope on her part.

When she got home, the babysitter taking care of Logan had left. Logan was playing with some toys.

Chanel grabbed him and began to hit him repeatedly.

“You useless thing!” Chanel roared before bursting into pitiful tears.

She was angry at herself for not being more capable, and that Logan wasn’t enough to get Damien to

talk to her more.

Chanel feared she would be forever alone. Although she yearned deeply, she could do nothing. And

so, she took out all of those feelings of frustration on Logan.
