Damn It
Kaivan ushers Anne into the car. In the early dawn hours, he’s already taking her to the airport. During the journey, Kaivan senses that something isn’t right. Anne can even feel Kaivan’s unease, so she reaches for his wrist and holds it tightly.
“You can use this, right?” Kaivan takes a pistol from his jacket pocket. He hands the firearm to his wife.
“Of course, I can,” Anne nods immediately.
“Keep this. If something happens to me when we get out of the car, go far away. Find a way to return to my hotel as soon as possible. Ask Meggy or Hans to protect you.”
Anne immediately shakes her head in response to Kaivan’s request. She’s determined never to leave Kaivan, no matter what.
“I will stay by your side. We’ll go back to London together.” Upon hearing this statement, Kaivan falls silent. He doesn’t respond to his wife’s words anymore. Even though they’re being closely guarded by the Witch Hunter group, the fear still lingers in his mind. He’s worried about something happening to the woman beside him. He had promised himself to protect her until all the secrets Anne is keeping are revealed.
“You have to promise to return with me,” Anne reaffirms.
Kaivan nods, then turns to her.
“Alright, I promise that both of us will return safely to London. But you also have to promise me something.”
“What promise?” Anne asks. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Promise that after we arrive in London, you’ll tell me all the secrets you’ve been keeping to yourself.”
“You-”
“Or do you want me to find out everything on my own? And if I do find the answers, don’t expect me to help you later.”
Damn it!
Anne curses in her heart. Why has her position become so difficult?
“Alright.”
Anne finally agrees to Kaivan’s request. She thinks she can delay or find reasons to postpone revealing her secrets so that Kaivan doesn’t keep pressing her to talk.
“But…” Anne speaks up again. “Can I know why you’re taking me to the airport this early in the morning? Our flight isn’t until 9 AM, right?”
Kaivan nods.
“You’ll know the answer later. What you need to remember now is to stay behind me. Just shoot anyone you believe poses a threat to our lives.”
Anne nods in understanding after hearing her husband’s command. Not long after, the car they’re in suddenly stops in the middle of the road. Kaivan had already anticipated this. He guessed that their enemies were probably tracking them since last night, observing their every move. They likely followed their car and are now directly confronting them.
“Are you ready?” Kaivan asks, and Anne responds with a nod.
Both of them exit the car. Kaivan immediately raises the pistol he’s been holding since the beginning, firing at several people who have gathered around their car.
Seeing their numerous opponents, Anne briefly panics. But she remembers that the group of Witch Hunters guarding them is equally numerous.
Shot after shot becomes inevitable. Kaivan has already lost count of how many bullets he’s used to repel the enemies trying to approach. Meanwhile, Anne keeps a sharp lookout, remaining vigilant about her surroundings. She fires her weapon whenever she sees her husband in danger.
Everything happens in an instant. Until one by one, the group of enemies is pushed back, leaving only one person who seems to be their leader. From this, Anne finally understands why Kaivan intentionally took her out of the hotel early in the morning. It was all part of his plan to bait the enemies out and eliminate them.
“What business do you have attacking me?”
Kaivan grabs the collar of the man named James. He deliberately forces him into a seated position, even though James looks weak and his face is covered in blood from being beaten by Dominique.
“I was just following orders,” he replies.
“Who ordered you? Romain?” Kaivan confirms. His dealings have mostly been with Romain. But didn’t their past issues get resolved?
“Indeed, Lord Romain ordered us. There have been reports suggesting that you came to Milan to once again try to dismantle the Camorra clan’s businesses.”
“That’s ridiculous.” Kaivan chuckles. He nearly lost his life due to someone’s false accusations. “Who said that?”
James remains silent. He chooses not to speak. Dominique, looking impatient, approaches and directs his pistol straight at James’ temple without hesitation. He even starts pulling the trigger, ready to fire.
“In that case, keep your secret to the grave.”
“Wait!” James speaks up. “Luca from Sicily brought that news to us.”
“Damn it!” Kaivan swears loudly. He finally figures out who’s behind this incident. “So, that old man wants to play games with me.”
“He’s the one who reported to Lord Romain that you planned to destroy all of Camorra’s businesses.”
Kaivan nods, motioning for Dominique to lower his gun.
“Now, you may leave. Deliver this message to your leader. Tell him to contact me within 24 hours, or I will truly obliterate all of your businesses without a trace.”
James nods. He’s then allowed to leave by Kaivan and Dominique.
