Chapter 3516 Public Execution
Allyson's voice carried an icy chill, cutting through the murmuring crowd as she addressed them.
"These people have committed heinous crimes in their homelands and fled to Larch Island. Yet, instead of repenting, they continued their vile acts here. Today, I will execute them all to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on our island."
Her words sparked an uproar in the crowd.
"The governor is right! I recognize one of them in there!"
"He murdered my mother and child!"
"The man who killed my husband is among them-it's him!"
"The murderer of my son... I'll never forget his face, even if he turns to ashes!"
Cries of grief erupted as the crowd identified their personal tormentors among the condemned. The air
grew thick with raw emotion, their anger and pain bubbling over like a volcanic eruption.
Meanwhile, the prisoners destined for execution began begging for their lives.
"Governor, we'll work as laborers! Spare us, please!"
"Governor, I acted in a moment of weakness. Please forgive me!"noveldrama
"Governor, let me go, and I'll give you all my treasures!"
Their pleas fell on deaf ears. Allyson's cold demeanor didn't waver. These individuals were beyond
redemption. Moreover, Matthew had thoroughly explained to her the necessity of this display.
Larch Island needed time to develop, and for that, stability and order were paramount. The most effective
way to maintain peace was through fear-a vivid reminder of the consequences of wrongdoing. These notorious criminals, already beyond saving, were the perfect examples to deter others.
"Do it," Allyson ordered.
At her command, a group of
executioners stepped forward. They dragged several prisoners out like
lifeless animals, hauling them to the guillotine.
The executioners took bowls of wine, rinsing their blades with it before raising their heavy swords. With a loud swish, the first blade fell.
Thud! Blood sprayed forth, painting the ground in crimson.
The sight ignited the crowd's fury even further, but for many, it also brought a bittersweet catharsis.
"Son, your mother, I couldn't avenge you myself, but we have a governor who did."
"My darling, I failed to protect you, but the one who hurt you is dead now..."
"Wife, you can rest in peace. That beast is gone!"
Suddenly, waves of islanders began kneeling toward Allyson's position.
"We thank the governor for avenging us!"
"Thank you, Governor!"
"From now on, I pledge my loyalty to the governor!"
One by one, they pressed their
foreheads to the ground. Even as the
blood from the execution poo and
spread beneath them, they didn't move.
Allyson, seated above them, gazed out at the sea of kneeling islanders. For the first time, she felt the immense weight of her role pressing on her shoulders. She instinctively began to rise, intending to tell the crowd to stand. There was no need for such gestures. But a firm hand rested gently on her shoulder.
Matthew's voice was low and steady. "This is their way of showing gratitude. Let them. If you reject it, their hearts will remain uneasy."
Allyson turned to look at Matthew's calm face and nodded. Silently, she vowed in her heart, I will give them a lifetime of peace.
