Sworn Enemy Novel 29

Lily Lane came downstairs, dejected. Sonya led her out without asking questions. At a café, Lily Lane explained.

"Director Davis said he'd never seen an actress so self-destructive," she said, tears welling up.

"And then?"

I begged him, and he agreed to let JoyPlus's newbie audition. That's all I could do. If JoyPlus doesn't let me go, I'm done."

Sonya squeezed Lily Lane's hand. "It's okay. Take your time."

The villa was chaotic with furniture being installed, and Sonya had to leave for the island trip. She called Leo Jones to help Lily Lane find an apartment and to look after her. He gave Lily Lane the keys to one of his properties. Lily Lane hugged Sonya."Thank you, Sonya."

"Don't mention it. You're my best friend."

In the afternoon, Sonya joined Julian Jennings and Seraphina West. Seraphina West was nestled in Julian Jennings's arms. Sonya sat opposite them, pointedly watching their affection.

*Sonya, we're going to an island," Seraphina West said, smiling serenely.

Sonya nodded. "Great. I've never been."

"There are lots of fun places. Explore."

Seraphina West felt a prickle of annoyance at Sonya's apparent

nonchalance.

After a long drive and boat ride, they arrived at a small island. Sonya, still seasick, almost threw

1. up.

Luna Stone greeted them at the villa. She smiled. "Sonya, welcome to my birthday party."

Sonya frowned but didn't react."I'm feeling sick. I want to rest."

"Uh, the rooms are full. You can stay in the cottages with the staff."

Luna Stone pointed to small cottages outside the main house. Sonya didn't care.

Mrs. Maggie, a maid, showed Sonya to her room.

There's only one main house on the island?" Sonya asked.

"Yes. It's a private island. It's not open to the public."

The room had two beds. Sonya took medicine and slept until dark.

A party was in full swing when she awoke. Men in suits and women in gowns danced to loud music. She saw Julian Jennings and Seraphina West in the middle of the dance floor. A small path led to the beach. Sonya put on her coat and scarf and walked down. She heard whispers and saw a couple embracing on an overlook. She hurried on to the beach. Her phone buzzed. It was Henry.

Henry: Had a long day of meetings, but productive. Colleagues seem to like me. Sonya laughed: Good. Get along with your colleagues. Metu

Henry: Took them out for drinks, but they were reserved.

Sonya: They've only just met.

Henry: Where are you?

Sonya sent him a video: On a work trip. On an island.

She waited for a reply but assumed he was busy. Walking along the beach, she saw a tall man climbing out of a speedboat. "Help! Someone!"

He was clutching his leg, clearly in pain. Sonya rushed over.noveldrama

"What happened? Your leg?"

"Snake bite! Help!"

She examined the bite. Two rows of saw-toothed marks. No swelling. He was shouting but didn't display symptoms of poisoning. "Did you see the snake?"

"Yes, but not clearly."

"How long ago?"

"I was bitten on the island behind this one. Over an hour ago."

"Does it hurt?"

"Yes! Terribly!"

Sonya told him he was lucky because she had an antidote. She applied some to the wound.

"Better? Still hurt?"

"No... it doesn't hurt."

"It wasn't venomous."

"How do you know?"

"I'm a doctor."

She looked at him: a mixed-race man.

"Mr. Reynolds?"

Jason Reynolds smirked. "You just recognized me?"

"Sorry. I wasn't paying attention."

"Ha! You ignore my face."

She ignored him."You can get up now."

He couldn't."My legs are weak."

Probably shock."I'll get help."

She told Mrs. Maggie, who panicked. "Oh my god! Young Master is hurt!" Young Master?"So, the owner is...?"

"This is Reynolds family property."

Luna Stone was using the Reynolds family's island for her party.

Mrs. Maggie went to get help. Sonya walked back to the beach.

Henry finally replied: Alone?

Sonya: Yes.

Henry: That's boring..

Sonya: It's okay.

Henry: Let's play a game.

Sonya: What game?

Henry: Treasure hunt.
