Marrying my high school bully

Boyfriend?

Chapter 96

Melissa

We had almost gotten to the passenger’s seat when I decided to intervene. “I’m not sure Emilia will like this. She might be hurting.” I uttered softly, knowing that I was stirring up his emotions.

“As if,” He scoffed and dropped me on the ground then opened the car door. “First of all, she hurt you first and I’d have to talk to her about it later. Secondly, I don’t really care about her, alright? So stop worrying about trivialities and allow me to take care of you.” He grumbled, my heart racing faster.

“Yes, sir.” I replied sarcastically, my body giddy with suppressed excitement and went in.

No lies, I was hurting. She’d pulled my hair too hard and if not for the trap I’d set for her, I would have faced her squarely. But this wasn’t the time to go physical on her. Using my emotions and acting weak would get more reactions.

I silenced my phone intentionally because of the notifications that threatened to cause a malfunction in my device. I’d take care of revenge later, but now, I had to allow my husband to take care of me.

“I’m sorry for walking out on you the other day.”

He huffed, his attention fixed on the road. “Don’t worry. I don’t bear grudges.”

It was at the tip of my tongue to tell him that if he didn’t bear grudges, he would have forgiven Lorraine already, but I swallowed the words and watched him drive stealthily to a nearby hospital.

We went in and the doctor did a general check on me. The pain in my head had reduced but Dexter wouldn’t believe it except the doctor said so.

“Do you want to have lunch? I know a good place where we can do that. It’s the least I can do to thank you for taking care of me.” I offered.

“That’s not a bad idea,” He started the car. “I took care of you because someone had to take responsibility for Emilia’s actions.” He said and drove off.

His sharp admittance stung in a kind of way, but I didn’t want him to start having the wrong idea so I let it slide. We didn’t say anything to each other apart from when he asked me for directions to the eatery.

The silence was becoming unpalatable with each passing minute and having him act like I didn’t exist irked me further. The urge to nag like an abandoned wife enveloped me, so I yielded to the voices in my head.

“Can you stop this bullshit?”

He swerved from the road and parked the car at the side. “What is going on with you?” He sounded displeased, but I didn’t care anymore.

I squared my shoulders and unbuckled my seat belt. “You’re making me go nuts.” I confessed, my voice climbing a high pitch.

My little confession was a tip of the wall of frustration I had to go through and seeing him around Emilia without recognizing that it was his wife affected my sanity in every hurtful way.

Assuming I hadn’t decided to stretch Emilia’s suffering, I’d have found a way to end it all myself.

“How?” He asked innocently, further increasing my irritation.

“You don’t want to talk to me and you’re even making it harder for me to start a conversation. I thought I told you that I was sorry.” I exploded at him, but as usual, he took it all in with a slice of calmness.

“I’m sorry if I’m giving off a wrong vibe, I didn’t just want to say something that will hurt you.” He rumbled and I massaged my chin to assuage the forthcoming headache.NôvelDrama.Org content.

A scoff flew out of my lips as I rolled my eyes. “You lied when you said you don’t bear grudges. What happened that evening-”

He raised his hand sharply, training a relaxed gaze at me. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m the one at fault for not knowing when to shut my mouth and I get it, so let’s forget all about it so we can have something for lunch.”

I let out a relieved sigh and tightened my seat belt once more, happy that the tension in the car had fizzled out and we were back to normal.

“That seems like a good plan.” I agreed and off we went to the eatery.

The aroma that greeted us as soon as we got in was enticing. My mouth watered as I sank onto an empty table Dexter picked for us.

One of their waiters didn’t waste much time in attending to us and we both made our orders.

“I can’t wait to dive in. I feel so hungry,” I remarked.

Then Dexter propped his elbows against the table, his palms sliding against each other. He leaned forward then did a little scrutiny around us. “One of these days, I’m going to show you how much of a good cook I am.” He smirked confidently.

“I know you are. I can’t wait to eat your sour cream cornbread. It’s been a while since I ate that…” My lips snapped shut immediately I got a grip on myself.

What the hell did I just do?

His puzzled gaze didn’t make things better. “My sour cream cornbread? I’ve never cooked for you before.”

I chalked it up with a nervous laughter. “I guess it didn’t come out the way I wanted. I was just saying that if you were going to cook for me, don’t forget to add sour cream cornbread. It’s my favorite dessert.”

He nodded absentmindedly while I hoped with everything within me that he would buy my explanation.

“If that’s what you want, then I’ll prepare it for you.” He agreed with a wry smile, the relaxed atmosphere vanishing slowly. “That used to be Lorraine’s favorite dessert, though.”

“Huh?”

“Never mind, I didn’t say anything important.”

He didn’t have to respond because our meal was brought almost immediately. A tray of steaming Lasagna and grilled chicken for myself, then a plate of Mac and cheese for himself.

We ate in a tolerable silence . My hunger slowly began to dissipate, as I filled myself with large chunks from my chicken.

“I don’t think you’ll be able to go back to work after having something this heavy.” I joked.

“Well, I don’t plan on going back. I’ve had enough work for today.”

My face brightened with excitement, my cheeks heating up without hesitation. “If you say so.”

He dropped his fork suddenly and stared at me intently before asking me a question I never expected him to ask in the middle of lunch.

“Do you have a boyfriend?”
