Marrying my high school bully

Payback I

Dexter

My heart thudded faster as I waited patiently in Doctor Luca’s office for him to come with the DNA test result. I knew that Liam claimed to be Lilly’s father and he had several ways of proving it, but for some unknown reasons, I hoped that a miracle would occur and the result would be in my favor.

The door made a creaking sound as Doctor Luca let himself in. I searched his face for a clue, but as usual, his face gave away nothing.

He sank onto his seat and said nothing for some seconds, then he inhaled and fixed his gaze on me.

“The result is ready.” He announced like I didn’t know already.

“Can I have it?” I asked curtly, getting cranky by the minute.

He passed a brown envelope to me which I opened. A white paper fell out and I opened it, unwilling to drag the tension further. I scanned through the information, unable to make out what it meant until I got to the end and saw the statement of the result.

My heart plummeted when I read that the probability of my paternity to Lilly was zero percent, hence I wasn’t her father.

I slammed the paper on the table, my jaw clenched as I took in deep breaths to calm my temper.

“I’m sorry, Dexter.”

I shook my head vehemently as I didn’t want to be pitied by anyone. Emilia was already on her way to my office.

According to what I told her, she would be going on a picnic with Lilly and me, while we reviewed our relationship and talked about how to make things work. I couldn’t wait to see how she would be enveloped with disappointment, because none of that was going to happen.

It was a day of reckoning.

A day to set things right. Something I should have done a few years ago.

“It’s fine, Doc. Thank you for answering promptly. I’ll take my leave now.” I sprang up to my feet and left his office.

*********

My eyes were shut, and my palms clamped as I waited patiently for Emilia to buzz in with her disgusting aura. And she didn’t disappoint me as the door went ajar and she flung herself at me without hesitation.

“Hi, Dexter. It’s so good to see you once again. I thought you had forgotten about my existence because of that witch who doesn’t stop throwing herself at you.” She snarled.

It was hard for me not to react to the names she called Lorraine, but I had to play along just for the fun of it.

“I’ve been so busy with work, Lia, but I’m here for you now,” I said calmly.

She giggled, her lips parted out of surprise. I used to call her Lia when our relationship hadn’t gotten sour, so referring to her as that would probably raise her hopes again.

I couldn’t wait to dash them.

She palmed her face in excitement, dramatically fanning herself with her hands.

“I can’t believe you called me by my pet name. What happened to you? Or did you suddenly realize that I was the one for you and that Melissa is just a cheap whore?”

I hid my frown with a fake smile. If she was observant, she would notice that it was fake.

“Can’t you talk about her without calling her names?”

She smiled coyly while fiddling with her fingers. “She tried to steal me from you after everything I’ve done to keep you, so she deserves it.”

“Mmmm… So can you mention the things you did to keep me? I’d like to hear them.” I stood up and walked to the front of the desk, then folded my hands while watching her gobsmacked expression.

Her lips parted open as she tried to talk, but no word came out.

I burst into cynical laughter, deeply enjoying her confusion. “Have you suddenly forgotten the things you did?” I taunted her with every trace of laughter disappearing from my face.

“What are you talking about, Dexter?” Her voice shook.

“I think you’ve suddenly developed amnesia so I’ll remind you, gladly, of course,” I said with a dark chuckle. “Where do I start from?” I tapped my chin, “Oh, you collaborated with Liam one time to kidnap Lorraine, but it failed, so you moved on to the next plan which was poisoning her pizza while taking an antidote so that it wouldn’t be traced to you.”

She shrank backward, as blood drained from her face. “How… how did you get to know about all of this?” She trembled visibly, retracting her steps.

What a dumb move.

Did she think that I would let her go that easily?

“That’s not all,” I smirked. “When you saw that her barrenness didn’t cause a dent in the feelings I had for her, you made arrangements with your father and kidnapped her on our wedding day. Then you framed her for killing my sister, and used my vulnerability against me.”

Her face turned ashen as she clutched onto her bag, her mouth agape with shock. She tried to take another step but she missed a step, causing her to trip and land on the floor.

I crouched before her, staring at her coldly as I was too relaxed to glare.

“I didn’t do any of that…”

“Don’t!” I silenced her with my hand raised. “Don’t even deny it because I have enough evidence to throw you into jail.”

She shook her head, her eyes watering as she dropped her bag and held my shirt. “Please don’t send me to jail.” She yelled. “It would break Lilly’s heart, and how do you think she’ll feel when she grows up and finds out that you threw her mother behind bars?”

I raked through my hair and got to my feet.

“She won’t feel bad because she’ll know beforehand that her mother was a liar, a thief, a murderer and a woman without value. Lilly has Melissa and I, and we will make sure that she never remembers your existence.” I said sternly.

“Lilly isn’t even your daughter!” She blurted out of frustration.

A brief chortle escaped my lips as I returned to my desk, picked up the test result and passed it to her.

“I know that already, sweetheart. Liam is her father.”

She gasped, her eyes popping as she darted her gaze away from me and scanned through the paper.

She sprang to her feet, ruffling her hair while pacing to and fro in my office. “You are so sneaky, Dexter. I concur with everything you said, but I won’t allow that whore to raise my daughter. I’ll fight for custody with Liam and Lilly will be taken away from you.” She threatened.

“I thought you tried to kill Liam. How will you be able to fight for custody with him?” I dropped the bombshell.

She swallowed, her eyes darting around with uncertainty, and then she bent and picked up her bag.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

With a sigh, she said, “I have to leave now.” She spun around and traipsed to the door.

I watched her turn the knob, while the door gave way, then I burst into laughter when she met the cops standing right in front of her.

She whipped a backward glance at me, then returned her gaze to the cops and tried to move away from them.

“You set me up?” She asked with a shrill voice.

“Yes, I did, sweetie. It’s payback time.”
