Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 389

She always knew he was a piece of work, but every time they clashed, he managed to surprise her all over again. Her nostrils flared with anger, and her dark eyes narrowed as she shot daggers at him.

Everett looked back at her with an infuriating calm, waiting for her to admit she was wrong, to give in and go along with what he wanted. But Selena wasn't one to just roll over. If she had been, she wouldn't have stuck around as his doormat for three years. Whatever he was after, she wasn't about to hand it over.

"Alright then."

A sudden smile played on Selena's lips as she began unbuttoning her blouse, her fingers trembling but determined.

"If Mr. Everett wants it, then Mr. Everett shall have it."

Once the buttons were undone, her pale skin peeked through, hinting at her alluring figure beneath. As she moved to take it off completely, his voice cut through the tension, teeth clenched tight.

"Selena, am I really less important to you than any random guy off the street?"

Everett's face twisted with frustration, his emotions flaring up again because of this ungrateful woman. His eyes practically blazed with anger, as if he wished he could burn away the frustration she caused him. Selena paused briefly before replying with a firm, "Yes!"

Hearing that, Everett kicked the coffee table hard enough for it to slide across the floor with a heavy thud, showing just how much force he put into it.

She would do anything for her uncle and brother, and now for a Derick or an Ava, she'd throw her pride out the window.

But what about him, her husband?NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

He'd bent over backwards to make her happy, spending time and effort on romantic gestures he once would've scoffed at. Why couldn't she give him just a little something in return? Why couldn't they just have a normal life together?

Selena's heart gave a little flutter, but she held her ground, standing firm against him.

Everett's eyes turned red, tears threatening to spill as an unexpected wave of hurt washed over him. He pulled Selena close, gripping her shoulders tightly as he looked down at her cool expression, demanding answers. "Selena, do you really think no matter what you do, I'll just keep letting it slide? Have I spoiled you so much that you've lost touch with reality? Can't you see everything I've done for you? Is your heart made of stone?" His grip was fierce, causing her pain. Selena winced and tried to pull away, but the more she struggled, the harder he held on, desperate for her to say something.

Selena wasn't some heartless creature; she had feelings, flesh and blood, and yes, she could feel hurt and injustice too.

All this time, she'd been holding

everything in playing her cards close to her chest because she needed to outsmarthim. She couldn't slip up she needed to leave and see her child. She hadn't laid eyes on her baby since the birth, and the longing was eating her alive!

In that moment, her emotions broke free, and she couldn't keep up the pretense any longer.

She laughed bitterly, "Everett, I've told you over and over, I don't want to have another child with you. Are you deaf? Why does it always have to be your way? Why can't I have my own say?"

"I've bent over backwards for you, always worried about whether you were hungry, cold, or unhappy. But did you ever truly see me? Loving you has been nothing but misery, so I'm done. I want a divorce. I want a future where you don't exist for me!"
