CHAPTER 28: Missing Item

– LIA –

DESPERATE to look for answers, I made big steps towards Doctor Silvio’s table. I know that he can feel my presence going near him, but he acted like he’s alone and continued his work.

I slammed his table, making the pens and paper clips jump a little in the air. But like earlier, he didn’t mind it and acted like I was the air that he couldn’t see.

“We need you to talk about Doctor Andres. We need information,” I said, losing my patience. I felt Kelleon walk behind me as his warmth got nearer.

“Mi amor, calm down,” he whispered in my ear.

But I was too focused on the doctor that Kelleon’s words fell mute on my ears. It’s like what he said entered one ear, then immediately went out on the other head without being registered on my brain.

The doctor put stamps on the papers before answering me. “You heard what I said. I have nothing to say about him. Leave, or I’ll have to call the security.”

I gritted my teeth because of irritation and frustration.

“Nothing to say? Are you fucking on me?!” I exclaimed. “He’s your best friend for God’s sake! Of all the people, you’re the one who has the most things to say about him!”

He didn’t respond. He just pretends that he didn’t hear me.

“You have to cooperate with us. We’re from the police and we can help you get justice for him. You have to help us to solve this case,” I said, pleading that I almost wanted to kneel on the ground just so he would agree.

He chuckled a little. He stopped writing on his paper and stared at the metallic name plate on his table before answering.

“You can’t,” he said. “You can’t solve this case.”

I ws about to speak more and convince him, but Kelleon pulled me out of the doctor’s office. He pulled me with so much force that I was almost dragged out of that place.

I slapped and hit his hand repeatedly, but he wouldn’t bulge. Not even a little.

“Let me go!” I shouted at him when we’re already out of the hospital.

People are looking at us because of the scene I’m making, but I don’t care! I need to go to that doctor and ask more!

I know that Doctor Caalim knew what happened before Doctor Andres disappeared. They’re best friends. If something suspicious and weird happened to me, the first person I would tell about it is my best friend. They’ve been together since high school, so I’m sure that they’re so close that they can share very personal things with each other.

“I said, let me go!” I shouted loudly while trying to remove Kelleon’s hand on my wrist.

But my small figure wouldn’t do much damage to his bulky body.

He opened the passenger seat of his car before pushing me inside and locking the door. I didn’t fight back this time. I know that I’m just wasting my energy if I did that.

Kelleon rode on the driver’s seat and started driving away from the hospital.

“Alejandro’s on the building near the hospital,” he said when we had already reached the skyway.

I turned my head to him, shocked. Alejandro’s nearby?

Realizing what happened, I looked down because of embarrassment and because I feel guilty.

“I’m sorry,” I said without looking at him.

I’m too blinded by my emotions earlier. I’m too focused on seeking answers about the doctor and why he had my old photo in his locker. I’m too occupied with my own goals that I forgot to think rationally.

I didn’t even think that I should come up with a plan before approaching Dr. Caalim. I didn’t even think that I was unprofessional at that point. I didn’t even think that maybe I missed some points that could help us in this case.

When I thought Kelleon was about to burst his angriness at me, he gently held my hand.

I looked up at him, not knowing what to say. I was shocked that he didn’t shout at me like what I did earlier. He didn’t get mad at me. He doesn’t look like he’s mad at me.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I opened my mouth to speak, but I was caught halfway. I’m wondering why he’s not mad at me even if I shouted at him in front of so many people. I don’t get why he is asking me if I’m okay even if I’m the one who hurts him physically.

“Ye–” I stopped. “No, I’m not.”

I don’t want to lie to him. I don’t want to tell him that I’m fine even if that’s not true. I don’t feel fine at all. I felt like my problems kept on stacking up on each other until they became a tower that could fall down and kill me anytime.

“I’m here, mi amor. You can lean on me,” he said, full of love and worry. He keeps on carressing my hand as he drives.

I sighed deeply. “I don’t know what to do anymore,” I said. Tears started to form on my eyes.

“At first, I thought my only problem was that you mistook me as your ex-girlfriend. But then, there’s a picture of me in that doctor’s locker. A nurse told us that I look like the person who kill Doctor Andres. Now, Alejandro is just nearby, and he can discover about me anytime!”

I broke down on the car. Things get worse, and I’m starting to overthink.

I’m a profiler. I should be able to control my emotions. However, it gets difficult for me, especially now that my identity is involved.

Denisee can do something and put the blame on me. She can pretend to be me and manipulate my loved ones. She can steal my identity and leave me as no one.

Kelleon’s grip on my hand tightened. “Don’t worry, mi amor. I’m here. I’ll make sure that you’re safe. Trust me, okay?”

I nodded. “I trust you, cariño.”

He smiled at me. I leaned towards him and clung to his arms. He seemed to enjoy it since I saw him having a small smile on his lips.

“Cariño,” I called while looking at him.

“Yes, mi amor?”

“I think,” I paused for a few seconds before talking again. “I want to go to a therapist.”

“Is this because of your breakdowns and fear of that weapon?” he asked, referring ‘that weapon’ as guns.

I nodded. “Yes. Actually, I really want to go to a therapist since I was 18 but I didn’t have the time and money.”

He carressed my face using the back of his hand.

“Sure, mi amor. We’ll find the best therapist to help you.”

WE ARRIVED at his rest house. We saw Danica waiting on the gate. She bowed down when she saw us.

“Give me updates,” Kelleon said when we were already inside the house. I sat on the sofa, so as Kelleon, while Danica sat across the two of us.

“There are men scattered on the area of Lady Lia’s house. I assumed they were working for Count Estrada,” she started reporting to her boss.

“How long have they been there?” Kelleon asked.

“Since yesterday,” Danica answered. “At first, they were only on the arc of the area. After some hours, they started scaterring around and observing some houses.”

“Did they also observe Lia’s house?”

“Yes, your highness. However, when one of the men saw me went outside of the house and came back with Louis, they stopped and went to the houses on the other end of the block.”

Kelleon nodded. “They must have found that Lia is staying there,” he said. “Continue on staying there. Lessen their suspicions. Report to me if you observed anything bizarre.”

Danica agreed and bid goodbye to us.

“Do you think that Alejandro already knew about my existence?” I asked Kelleon while following him to the kitchen.

“I don’t think so. My hunch is he thought that Dennise is here in the Philippines,” he responded.

I titled my head to the said. “But isn’t Dennise living with him? Chynna said that they’re married.”

“Yes, but Cloud received a report that they had a fight,” he answered. “I guessed Dennise left his mansion, and he was looking for her.”

“You have a spy inside his mansion?”

“Not a spy. That person just owes me a favor,” he said while handing me the cookie and juice.

“And you want that person to repay you by giving you information? Why don’t you just ask that person to reveal who Alejandro’s wife is and help you infiltrate the house?” I asked before biting the cookie.

He sat beside me and put more cookies on my plate. He even added some chocolate bits.

“That person is cannot enter the mansion. He’s just inside the area but not on the masion itself. He just overheard that conversation,” he explained. “However, I told him to report everything that he can hear from the inside and outside.”

I nodded at his response. It makes sense. That Alejandro’s house is too secure. It’s really difficult to find a way inside.

“Cariño,” I called him. “Do you remember the chestbox?”

He nodded as an answer since his mouth was full. He swallowed first before talking.

“Yeah. It’s still on the car. Why?”

I took a deep breath. “I noticed something unusual in it,” I said. “When I opened the chestbox, there was a space on the bottom of it with rectangular marks. The mark doesn’t fit the cash or the check. Aside from that, there’s a piece of broken case there.”

“I’m not sure if that came from a plastic or glass case, but it looks like it came from a case of a Blu-ray CD. It looks like the CD case you can buy in the thrift shop,” I added, remembering that weird thing in the chestbox.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Kelleon squinted his eyes. “You mean to say… that there’s another thing inside the chest box aside from the cash and check?” he asked.

“Yes,” I answered. “I’m sure that someone had stolen that thing, because he doesn’t want others to discover what’s inside of it.”
