Vera bit her lip, her face turning pale. “I don’t believe Joe would turn against me for Skylar. She must not mean as much to him as I do.”
Seeing that Vera was still not grasping the gravity of the situation, Justin felt a mix of frustration and resignation. He decided to address the immediate issue rather than confronting her further.
“We need to find someone to keep Christopher quiet. No matter what happens, he must not reveal that you were behind bringing him to Jipsburg. In recent years, Joe has been known for his ruthless methods; even his uncle is wary of him.
“Although your family is well–established in Jipsburg and might not fear direct retaliation from Joe, it’s best to distance yourself and avoid any potential fallout. Furthermore, if you end up with Joe, you don’t want this incident to create a rift between you two and affect your relationship.”
Vera frowned and replied, “I understand.”
Justin nodded.
After a moment, Vera suddenly asked, “Did Christopher really fuck Skylar? Given the time that’s passed and the drugs Skylar was given, it’s likely that he did. If Joe sees Skylar with her ex– boyfriend, he’s going to be upset.”
Justin was momentarily taken aback by Vera’s question. He suddenly realized that Vera, who had once seemed so proud and arrogant, was actually just putting on a façade. Although she seemed indifferent on the surface, she was deeply concerned underneath.
“He probably hadn’t. If he had, the situation would be far more complicated than just having the police escort him away,” Justin said with certainty.

Vera bit her lip. She was visibly frustrated. “Christopher is truly useless. If he hadn’t told me himself how much Skylar used to love him, I would never have brought him to Jipsburg.”

Vera was struck by his words and immediately became clear–headed.

When Skylar woke up at Apollo Hospital, it was already dark outside. She felt a renewed strength in her body. The first thing she saw was Joe sitting on the couch, engrossed in his phone.
