Chapter 39
Willow halted her steps and turned around. "Mr. Ward, did you need something?"
"Clean up Mr. Hughes' office, okay? Also, clear away the cups that were used," Tyson instructed Willow and then walked away without saying another word to Edith. Willow came to her senses and met Edith's eyes.
Edith stared at her with a gloomy gaze, as if she had some kind of grudge.
Willow innocently blinked, thinking that she hadn't done anything to upset Edith.
Besides, Willow hadn't even complained about how Edith had sternly disciplined her children!
So, why was Edith giving her such a look?
"Ms. Price, I'm going to clean the office now," Willow said.noveldrama
With that, she grabbed a broom and headed towards the office.
Edith saw that Willow was about to enter Jasper's office, where she would see him in person.
A strong wave of emotions surged through Edith, and she felt as if she was on the brink of a crisis. When Willow was about to push the door open, Edith spoke up just in time, "Lara, wait a moment." "Hmm?" Willow paused and turned to look at her.
Edith had a detached look on her face. There was even a hint of hostility as she told Willow, "Clean the secretary's room first. Mr. Hughes is working, and he shouldn't be disturbed." "Oh, alright," Willow obediently turned and went to the secretary's room.
Cleaning the secretary's office was within her scope of duties, so she had no objections.
Willow went to the secretary's room while Edith entered Jasper's office. She found Jasper sitting in his chair, engrossed in reading some documents with a serious expression.
Behind him, the sky was painted with an abundance of colors. The colorful sunlight streamed through the window and cast a radiant glow over the man. It made him look as if he were cloaked in a layer of iridescent light.
His black suit accentuated the glow of the colorful sunlight, making him appear even more divine. He was so handsome that he seemed like an angel that had descended from the heavens.
Edith watched in awe as her heart pounded rapidly. She had silently admired Jasper for ten years.
During this time, she had tried every possible means to stay by his side. She had witnessed him reject countless confessions from others with her own eyes.
Most of them had some form of connection with him before they confessed their feelings. It wasn't just business-related interactions; it sometimes extended to personal or familial matters. However, once they confessed, Jasper would cut them off. They would disappear from his life, and they wouldn't even have the chance to do business with him again.
So, Edith had hidden her feelings carefully over the years. She never dared tell Jasper or let him find out. She feared he would remove her from his side, leaving her no chance to see him again. Initially, she thought it was because Jasper didn't like women. That was until Jasper ordered her to find a woman from Nason Village and bring her to him, saying he needed to settle something with her. That was when Edith learned that Jasper had been intimate with that woman and felt responsible for her.
When Edith heard this news, her hopes crumbled, and her heart shattered.
Jasper didn't dislike women; he just hadn't found the woman he liked yet!
If that woman were brought to Jasper's side, Edith would have no place in his life, despite silently guarding him for a decade.
Edith couldn't accept it.
She had liked Jasper for ten years, so why should he be stolen away by a woman who had suddenly appeared?!
She had gone to Nason Village. There, she discovered that the old house where Jasper and Willow had been intimate had been destroyed by rain. The destruction had also killed the house owner's beloved pig. She immediately made a decision and told Jasper that the woman had been crushed to death in the incident.
With that, she could break Jasper's attachment to that woman and make her disappear from his heart.
