My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna)

Chapter 2106

Chapter 2106

"A bar?" I blurted before Hendrix could speak. The memories of the rainy season came crashing into my mind.

The gentle pats on my shoulder became even harder to ignore by then, which meant that Hendrix's intentions were confirmed, but I was busy looking at Anne and didn't know how I should respond.

Having lost both parents at a young age, Monique relied on me and her grandmother for support. She was like a seed in the gaps of stacked rocks, living tenaciously. After growing up and learning to be independent, she set up a bar in Ucrebury from scratch on her own and became the youngest owner amongst bar owners in Ucrebury. She abandoned her dignity and blended in with the cohabitated society. Monique was my light in the darkest of days.

Yet, fate did not show mercy to the Caulfields, and she died at her prime.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

At the thought of that, my heart felt as if it was tightly bounded by vines, the hardships suffocating me.

At that moment, fear surged in my heart. I was afraid that Anne would walk down the same path as Monique had by opening a bar, becoming the owner, dating a vicious cunning man and destroying her own life.

"Yes, Mom." Anne's eyes sparkled with a twinkle heated with passion and sincerity. "When I was abroad, I visited many bars with my classmates and had always been very interested. I hope to establish a club like those I had been to, which could not only maintain a secretive atmosphere but also guarantee privacy. A place where people could relax and enjoy or talk about discrete topics without scruple. I did some research on relevant materials online, and for now, no bar in Zuckerberg can incorporate both, so I think it should have a promising prospect."

Freya was overjoyed. "Little girl, you're indeed a pleasant surprise. You're bold, and that perfectly suits my taste! I'll invest in this project. Count me in!"

Tobias rested his chin on the armrest of the sofa. He did not speak against Freya but locked his gaze on Anne. The shrewdness in his eyes was obvious. Judging by the look on his face, the man was evidently planning his next moves.

From what I knew, if Tobias was indeed interested in Anne, he would try to snatch her away when Freya had her guards down.

However, all I could care about was Anne's feelings. I was more nervous than anyone else in the room, but had to keep it in to ensure it went unnoticed by her. I tried my best to sound calm, "Anne, is there any other reason you'd want to open a bar other than liking the idea of it?"

When I asked, I had my fists clenched. I was afraid of hearing what I expected to hear - that she knew everything.

About her background, about Monique, and how Monique's life had abruptly ended.

Anne, however, kept her smile on and looked at me innocently. Without much change in expression, she answered sincerely, "Mom, is liking it not enough of a reason? This is the only thing I enjoy, otherthan mathematics. Can I give it a go?"

In that instant, I felt as if my soul had left my body. Anne and Monique's faces overlapped and scattered across my mind over and over again. As if time no longer existed, the person sitting in front of me was not Anne, but was Monique.

"A bar is indeed challenging for

women, but so are other jobs. I'd much rather be my own boss than work my as off and still get bullied by my employer. Arianna, do you know that I enjoy being under this flickering light? The way it leaves me in a state between clear-

n

headedness and dazzlement, which makes me forget a lot of my worries and occasionally, lets me see the person I missed for a long time."
