Chapter 16
Lily went upstairs and took out her phone, which had been turned off for a few days. As soon as she turned it on, a call came through
“Finally, you answered the phone! Alchos is almost under siege!” The voice on the other end was very agitated.
If Loid and the others were around, they would recognize that the caller was Elliot Quade, the director of Alchos.
Lily moved the phone away from her ear with a frown. “Send me the details on the person who offered a hundred million dollars for shadowbane last time.”
Elliot was stunned for a moment. He had expected her to be furious, but she was quite calm.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “Are you willing to take the job?”
Lily pulled out a chair and sat down. She rested her head on her hand, feeling defeated. She had planned to take a year off to focus on investigating Jason’s affairs.
Sighing, she said, “Yes.”
After a pause, she added, “I’ll take one job a month.”
“Alright” Elhot finally breathed a sigh of relief, his tone becoming cheerful “Til send you the information right away.”
“I’m hanging up.”
Elliot was quick. When Lily hung up, she received a message on her phone. She opened the information and narrowed her eyes. It was indeed Loid.
At the tune, she hadn’t connected it to Loid. Many people sought out Shadowbane every year, and she wouldn’t accept every job.
Generally, she took on jobs when she was in a good mood. The day Elliot called, she wasn’t in a good mood and didn’t bother asking who placed the order. It was only after hearing Shaun’s conversation in the car that she realized it was Loid.
Lily drummed the table slowly, wondering if she should reclaim the hundred million dollars. Her eyes gleamed as she got up and turned on her laptop. Her fingers moved swiftly over the keyboard, and lines of code appeared on the screen.
After Lily went upstairs, Shaun turned to Loid. “Loid, do you have a grudge against that girl? Or does she have feelings for you?”
Loid leaned back on the couch with a straight face and his eyes half–closed it made people want to keep their distance. He lit a cigarette and slowly exhaled a ring of smoke. “What do you think?
“I don’t get it either. If she has feelings for you, she clearly would’ve cured you, but she’s keeping you hanging by a thread,” Shaun said, downing a glass of water.
“But she wouldn’t save you if she had a grudge against you. I really can’t figure her out. And isn’t she just a girl from the countryside? She grew up without her parents and only a grandmother. How does she know such advanced medical techniques? And she’s good at them.”
She had to be very skilled in medicine to cure the Bloodbane polson,
Shaun stroked his chin, his mind racing.
“Neil said she used something called the antitoxin shots. Apparently, the technique is from an ancient book. How could she have read such a valuable book?
Nell wasn’t happy to hear that. He immediately defended Lily
“You don’t understand. There are many talented people out there. Just because the book is kept by the state doesn’t mean no one else has seen it. Maybe some experienced doctor taught her.”
Lold shifted sightly, flicking the ash from his cigarette. He looked at Neil.
“You said only Shadowbane knows how to use the antitoxin shots?
Neil slapped the table and stood up excitedly, “Yes! How did I not think of that? She Iows how to use the antitoxin shots, and only Shadowbane can use it. Maybe Shadowbane taught her.”
Neil paced around, his face filled with excitement. “She’s shadowbane’s apprentice. That must be it. That’s the only way to explain İL“
Hearing this, Lold, shaun, and Daniel fell into deep thought
It was hard to believe a 19–year–old girl could have such advanced medical skills. But if she knew Shadowbane’s signature technique, it made sense that she was Shadowbane’s
apprentice.
After a long while, Shaun pursed his lips and asked, “So, does this mean Loid offended Shadowbane? Is that why Alchos said they wouldn’t take the job? It wasn’t that refused but Shadowbane?”Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Lald booked up at Shaun as it deep in thought.
Just then, a piercing alarm sounded. Daniel jumped up, looked at Loid, and then sprinted upstairs. He quickly came back down while holding a laptop.
He opened the laptop and checked it. His expression turned grave.
“Loid, your laptop has been hacked”
