Remarriage You 490
Chapter 490 Playing Husband And Wife
are no issues, we can sign them in front of the lawyer.
After consulting with her lawyer, Sophia drafted two agreements under his guidance. She then sent them to Zephyr for review, accompanied by a message: Your previous suggestion made some sense, so I agreed. Please take a look at these two agreements, and if there Zephyr only replied to her roughly ten minutes later. There's something I need to discuss. Are you free now? I'd like to talk to you in person.
Sophia paused for a moment. Why don't you come to the café near my residential area then? Just call me when you're almost there.
Zephyr: Okay.
Twenty minutes later, Sophia arrived at the café. She looked around and, seeing that Zephyr hadn't arrived yet, she found a spot in the corner and sat down.
In less than two minutes, a refined gentleman appeared at the café entrance. He was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, giving off an air of elegance and erudition.
He came to a halt, briefly scanning the expanse of the premises. His gaze landed on Sophia's figure. With a purposeful stride, he headed directly toward her, smoothly pulling out the chair opposite her to sit down.
"You're here. Have you looked over the agreement? Feel free to raise any concerns," Sophia said.
Of course, she might not necessarily agree.
Seeing Sophia cut to the chase, Zephyr responded, "In that case, I'll get straight to the point. My first question is, what does it mean in the agreement where it says we need to act like a loving couple?" Isn't it supposed to be a contract marriage?
"The idea is that we won't get a marriage certificate, but just hold the wedding ceremony. If necessary, we could fabricate a fake one."
Zephyr fell silent.
No wonder there's a second agreement concerning the distribution of wealth. Who gave her this idea?
He silently observed Sophia for a few seconds with a serious expression, then disagreed, "This could easily give us away."
"No, once we've held our wedding, will anyone really fuss over whether we have a marriage certificate? After all, a contract marriage ultimately ends in divorce, whether with a certificate or not." Sophia arched an eyebrow, her gaze lingering on Zephyr, who seemed to be at a loss for words. Her expression was one of amusement, yet not quite. "Or are you planning to tear up the agreement after the divorce, blurring the lines between reality and pretense? If that's the case, I don't see the need to continue this conversation."
"All right. Onto the next question." With a resigned sigh, Zephyr lowered his gaze, giving in. "While we're playing husband and wife, the man isn't allowed to casually enter the woman's bedroom off-stage, meaning we have to sleep in separate rooms, right?" "Yes. All we need is to show affection in public. There's no need to pretend when we're alone."
"But what if your parents find out?"
He figured that even if they were to live on their own after they got married, there was no way Evelyn wouldn't visit their house at least once.
After some thought, Sophia confidently and naturally suggested, "That's easy to manage. You can sleep in the guest room. Every morning when you wake up, just tidy up your bedding. As for toiletries and such, prepare two sets. Keep one set in the bedroom in case my mom decides to make a surprise inspection, and the other set in the common bathroom. Just put them away after you're done using them."
"This... This is way too troublesome."
"Not at all."
Zephyr was rendered speechless.
Well, of course, it's not too troublesome for her.
He had figured it out.
Indeed, he could raise issues if he had any with the agreement.
But that didn't mean that she was going to agree to make the necessary changes.
So, he didn't bring up the rest of his questions and instead said, "Let's leave it at that. When shall we sign the agreement?"
"You agreed?" Sophia raised her eyebrows in surprise.
When she was drafting the agreement, she deliberately included many terms that favored her.
She had thought that Zephyr was going to negotiate more terms with her, but she was surprised by how readily he agreed.
"Yes." Zephyr nodded.
Suddenly, Sophia found herself hesitating again.
The agreement is clearly not in his favor. It's basically like he's working for me. Why would he agree so quickly? Should I perhaps add a few more terms?
Discerning Sophia's thought, Zephyr tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Don't you dare disregard me, exploiter?"
"Isn't this your own choice?" Sophia sneered. "Shall we go sign the agreement now?"
"Okay."
Just as Sophia was about to stand up, she heard Zephyr say, "By the way, the agreement didn't specify a wedding date. I suggest we set it for October."
Sophia was taken aback for a
moment before she promptly refused. "No, it's already early September How can we possibly manage by October? And besides didn't even have a boyfriend before. If I were to suddenly bring a
marriage partner home 15
surely wouldn't agree. My dad might even become suspicious
Regardless, we need to act like we're in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship in front of them first. We can plan the wedding for early next year."
"Early next year? That'll be too late. Which year is that half-brother of yours in at university now?"
"He just started his sophomore year."
"He'll be able to intern at the
company in his senior year, which means we have to gain control of the company within two years and secure the support of the
higher ups. Only if we get married would your father allow me to parachute in, so we essentially have only a year and a half left. It's a very short amount of time. Do you understand?"
Sophia hesitated slightly. "Are we really that short of time?"
"Yes. I need to familiarize myself with the business, secure my position within the company, and make notable achievements before I can win people's hearts. Otherwise, why would anyone choose to align with us?" What those shareholders valued the most was the tangible benefits and not just empty promises.
Whoever could ensure the company's prosperity, boost its performance, and increase the value of their shares, thereby providing them with more dividends, would gain their support.
"But if I were to tell my parents that I'm getting married without giving them any prior notice or preparation, they surely wouldn't agree."
"That's simple. You just have to tell
them that we were each other's first love and refuctantly parted ways becaused had to leave to study abroad. Last year, I returned to
country and started pursuing net
again. You're afraid that we won't end up together, so you didn't tell them in advance."
Sophia's mouth fell open, her face showing a conflicted expression. "Is this... Is this okay?"
"This is the simplest way. By convincing them that we have an emotional connection, our marriage won't seem so abrupt."
"Well... okay then." Sophia reluctantly accepted the suggestion after some consideration. "But if my mom finds out about my high school romance, I'm afraid she'll give me another lecture."
"Don't worry, I'm here. Since we've made up our minds, let's go sign the agreement."
With that, the two of them headed to the law firm together. They printed out the agreement and, in the presence of a lawyer, signed the document. Each of them kept a copy.
"All right, we're essentially engaged now. There's no time like the present. I'll visit your parents tomorrow. Let them know in advance." Zephyr put away the agreement, smiling at Sophia. Sophia was still emotionally detached, but it was beyond her imagination that Zephyr had already slipped into character so swiftly.
"Tomorrow? That soon?"
"It's only a matter of time."
"Okay, I'll let them know."
Watching the smile on Zephyr's face, Sophia felt as though she had been tricked.
In the evening, Sophia returned to the Tortell residence just before dinner time.
In the living room, Sophia's father was seated on the couch, engrossed in reading the newspaper.
Hearing footsteps from outside, he looked up to see Sophia approaching. With a puzzled expression, he asked, "What brings you back today, Sophia? Is there something going on?"noveldrama
"Isn't it obvious?" Sophia rolled her eyes in silence, halting her steps. "Where's Mom?"
Ever since the fact that David had an illegitimate child was exposed, Sophia had often spoken to him in a confrontational manner, so much so that he had gradually grown accustomed to this. "Your mom's upstairs. Call her down for dinner. It's about time anyway." Sophia ascended to the second floor to have a chat with Evelyn, after which she helped her down the stairs.
The housekeeper had already arranged a few dishes on the table, with three bowls of stew each paired with a set of cutlery, all ready and waiting for the family to come and eat.
Sophia assisted Evelyn to her seat. Looking at the two, she cleared her throat and earnestly said, "I'm back today with an important announcement to make."
