Chapter 206
Chapter 206
With a sigh, he pulled out his phone from his pocket and tapped on a video.
Clara’s eyes widened in disbelief as the screen came to life. There on the video were her and Ian.
Ian was carrying her into the bedroom, tiptoeing to lay her gently on the bed, tucking her in snugly. Just as he was about to stand up and leave, a pair of soft, delicate hands clutched his neck.
Her lips, warm and slightly damp, grazed his chest inadvertently a few times as she let out a raspy, shallow breath. “Don’t go.”
Ian looked down at her with eyes brimming with tender emotions. It seemed as if he struggled for a few seconds, but then his large hand gently caressed her head. “Alright, I won’t leave. Just sleep tight.”
Clara seemed content after this. She smiled slightly, and finally nestled into a comfortable position, falling asleep in Ian’s arms.
At this point, Clara’s face turned a shade of red that could bleed. They had been apart for so long; why couldn’t she shake off these habits?
In the past, this was how she clung to Ian every night. As long as he was by her side, she could fall asleep in a second, and it was always a deep, peaceful sleep.
Clara closed her eyes in frustration, tangling her words, “I just mistook you for Snow. If I knew it was you, I’d have dodged in a heartbeat.”
Ian lifted his hand to pinch her burning earlobe. His voice dripped with indulgence. “If being held by you every day means I could be your Snow for life, I’d be more than happy.”
His voice was gentle and caressing. His gaze was soft as water. It was such a stark contrast to the domineering and assertive Ian she knew from before. It left Clara feeling a bit disoriented.
Just then, the real Snow, her fluffy white dog, dashed into the room, leaping into Clara’s lap with a playful whine. Clara’s cool demeanor melted away at the sight of Snow. Her face instantly softened.
She stroked Snow’s silky coat. Her voice was light. “Someone’s trying to usurp your spot in Mommy’s heart. Isn’t he just too shameless?”
Snow seemed to understand her and looked reproachfully at Ian, barking a few times in protest.
Ian, amused, pinched Snow’s neck and scolded with a laugh, “You’re just like your mom. You both have no idea who takes care of you every day.”
He stood up, ruffled Clara’s hair, and said in a deep voice, “Go freshen up. Breakfast is ready.”
Clara declined without a second thought, “No, thanks. I’m afraid you might poison me.”
After saying that, she went into the bathroom with Snow to wash up.
She played with Snow in the yard for a while, got in her car and drove off. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Ian watched her defiant figure disappear. His lips curled into an attractive smirk. This unreasonable woman, perhaps it was time to discipline her a bit. But she was the one he had set his heart on since childhood, and even if she misbehaved, he would spoil her rotten, even on bended knee. What else could he do?
He immediately took out his phone and called Dawson. “Assign two bodyguards to protect Clara around the clock.”
Now that Clara turned out to be the long-lost heiress of the Campbell family, the person orchestrating against her would certainly try to prevent her from reclaiming her birthright. So, his top priority was to ensure Clara’s safety and then to uncover the truth behind what happened all those years ago.
He drove straight to Edwin’s place. Edwin looked significantly more worn than he had a few days ago, with red veins webbing his eyes. He gripped Ian’s hand. His face was etched with pain. “Ian, do you think my sister might have been killed by someone a long time ago?”
