Chapter 331

Chapter 331

The officer’s words hit her like a bucket of cold water. “I’m sorry, but they are not interested in any settlement. They want to see you prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And if you’re thinking of filing an appeal, you should know that Attorney Clara is personally taking on the case. Do you really think you can win against her?”

Heidi stared at the police officer, her face a mask of disbelief. “Clara is injured. How can she possibly be in court to fight a case?”

“I’m afraid you’re mistaken,” the officer said with a note of finality. “Ms. Clara is not the one who’s injured.”

Heidi felt like she had been sucker-punched. That damn bitch hadn’t been hurt after all. She had dodged a bullet.

Why was it that Clara got off scot-free while she was left facing the hammer of justice? Heidi felt an unprecedented sense of defeat. In a fit of desperation, she cried out, “I want to see my dad. He’ll get me out of this mess.”

The officer seemed deaf to her pleas, motioning for her to be taken away to jail.

Meanwhile, Clara was in the middle of peeling an apple for Sasha, when she heard the news. Her hand paused for a moment before she looked up at Ian. “The person who threw acid at me last time must’ve been put up to it by Heidi. Why don’t we let that little tidbit slip to the right ears?”

Ian’s lips curled into a smug grin. “You’re as sharp as ever. Great minds think alike. I’ve already spread the word. As soon as that guy gives up on Heidi, he won’t be her pawn anymore. With the two charges combined, she’s looking at a few years in jail.”

He massaged Clara’s head affectionately, then leaned in to whisper in her ear. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure she gets a ‘warm welcome’ in prison. Any hardship you’ve faced, I’ll see it paid back double. Clara, you’ve had a long day. How about you come home and rest with me? I’ve yet to properly greet our baby. Can’t I get a chance to make it up?” This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Clara’s cheeks burned at Ian’s blatant flirtation. “Ian, I’m trying to have a serious conversation. Can you not?”

“Looking after my wife and child is serious business, isn’t it?”

Ian’s gaze was so tender it could melt steel, and even Sasha felt a blush creeping up her cheeks. She quickly took the apple from Clara’s hand. “Okay, you two. Go home. Any longer and I’ll choke on the sweetness here. I’ll be fine. The assistant’s got it covered.”

Clara shook her head, reluctant. “I want to stay with you.”

“Just take care of your baby. That’s all I ask. If you don’t go, Ian won’t leave, and I can’t even use the restroom in peace. Please, I’m begging you.” With no other choice, Sasha shooed them out.

As soon as they got into the car, Ian pulled Clara into his embrace. His warm palm gently rested on her belly. His eyes misted over, and his voice was husky. “Clara, this is our miracle, born of endless nights of hard work. How could you keep his existence from me?”

He was a cocktail of emotions – joy, sorrow, and tenderness all at once. He bent over and kissed her belly gently, then looked up at her with intense eyes. “Clara, we’re finally going to have a child. I’m going to be a dad. Do you know how happy I am?”

His face wore a joyful smile, but his eyes were wet with tears. He leaned in to kiss her lips, his voice raspy with emotion. “Clara, let’s get married.”
