Chapter 386

Chapter 386

Amanda's face was a picture of urgent concern as she looked at Chase. Swept up in the moment, without a second thought, Chase blurted out, "Get in."

His affirmation sent Amanda's heart racing, thumping wildly in her chest. She couldn't help but curl her fingers slightly, reaching for the passenger door.

Just as she was about to climb in, Chase said, "Sit in the back."

Amanda paused, then, with a laugh, said, "You forgot? I get carsick in the back. Remember back in college?"

Chase didn’t look her way; his gaze was fixed in Sasha's direction. When he saw Sasha hobbling towards the gate, reaching out for a cab, he called out urgently, "Hurry up and get in."

Before Amanda could settle in, Chase floored the gas pedal and sped off. Startled, Amanda quickly grabbed the handle, looking at him with a mix of annoyance and concern. "Hey, slow down. I get motion sickness."

Chase seemed not to hear her at all. The car didn’t slacken its speed. Only when they pulled up beside Sasha did he hit the brakes hard. Rolling down the window, he shouted, "Sasha, keep hobbling around, and your leg might never heal."

Hearing his voice, Sasha jerked her head up to see Amanda sitting inside the car, beaming at her. She recognized this woman. It was Chase's little protégée from the hospital, now a colleague.

They worked in the same department. She constantly shadowed him and affectionately called him 'senior.'

Rumors had been swirling around the hospital that the two were dating. Sasha’s mind flashed back to the excuse Chase had once given his grandfather for refusing a favor. He’d said he already hadBelongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

someone special in his heart, someone who also worked in the hospital. So, the one Chase had feelings for was Amanda.

At that thought, Sasha felt an inexplicable sting in her chest. Brushing her hair back with an air of calm, she replied casually, "Thanks for the concern, Dr. Chase, but I'm not that fragile. I’ll be on my way."

Chase, frustrated, clenched the steering wheel. "I’ll drive you. It's rush hour, and it will be tough to get a cab."

"No need, someone's picking me up. I wouldn't want to keep you from your enchanting company," Sasha said with a casual smile that betrayed nothing unusual.

As Chase was about to explain, a sleek blue sports car pulled up beside Sasha. A strikingly handsome young guy waved at him, "Sasha, hop in."

Limping, Sasha made her way over, climbed into the passenger seat, and the blue car zipped away right before Chase's eyes.

Amanda chuckled, looking at Chase, "Isn't that Ms. Sasha from the hospital drama shoot? So she’s with Jackson, the superstar, now, huh? That's unexpected."

Chase was puzzled and turned to her. "Jackson the superstar?"

Amanda seemed surprised. "Yeah, the hotshot who just swept three major international awards? He’s only 24 and skyrocketed to fame with one movie. He’s the industry’s top celeb right now. You didn’t know?"

Hearing this, a frown creased Chase's forehead, and his tone grew colder. "Why should I know about him?"

With that, he started the car and drove onto the road, but his thoughts were stuck on the way that guy had looked at Sasha. As a man, Chase knew what that look meant. He couldn’t shake the feeling that the so-called superstar had unsavory intentions toward Sasha.

The idea of 'casting couch' scenarios flashed through Chase's mind, causing tightness in his chest, and inadvertently, he pressed harder on the accelerator.

Amanda, sitting beside him, looked out the window, slightly confused. "Are we going the wrong way? Isn’t this the way to your place?"

A flutter of excitement ran through her. She thought maybe Chase wanted to take her home.

Everyone knew about Chase's meticulousness in his profession, but his reputation for being a free- spirited playboy outside the hospital was equally well-known. Frequenting nightclubs and bars had become a staple for him.
