Chapter 397
Chapter 397
Ian chuckled with a smug air, “Afraid I’ve got you beat there. I knew Clara since before she was even born. She was always the one for me. Something you’ll never be able to compete with.”
As his pride swelled with each word, so did his regret the very next second.
Clara’s eyes widened with surprise, and he desperately wished he could bite his own tongue off.
With a puzzled look, Clara stared at him. “But isn’t that you and Heidi? To be precise, shouldn’t it be the lost child of the Campbell family? How could it possibly be me?”
Seeing her skepticism, Ian quickly diverted her attention by pinching her nose and said with a laugh, “My silly wife, you’ve caught me in my own fib. Are you in cahoots with him?” Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Clara didn’t dwell on it, looking up at Ian. “What do we do now? Should we tell Teo and Katherine?”
Brodie was the first to voice his opposition. “I don’t want them to know until we’ve got the whole story. It could stir up unnecessary trouble. I refuse to let people think my mom was the other woman in someone else’s marriage.”
It was a notion he never believed, and he was determined to uncover the truth to clear his mother’s name.
Ian nodded in agreement. “The person who wanted to harm you back then might not have been Sierra. It’s likely someone behind the scenes. If they learn you’re still alive, you could be in danger.”
Clara suddenly expressed her concern, “But Sierra saw Katherine in the elevator just now, and Katherine was so shocked. I’m worried Sierra might suspect something.”
“I’ll have someone protect them and get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Don’t worry. It’s not good for the baby.”
Ian gently massaged her head, then leaned down to kiss her lips, saying with a smile, “Just focus on staying healthy for our little one, and get ready to be my bride, okay?”
His voice was tender as a summer breeze, and his gaze was deep and clear.
This image was a far cry from the ruthless businessman Ian in the boardroom.
Clara could easily tell he was teasing. Her cheeks flushed as she pushed him away. “Ian, how many times have I told you not to kiss me in front of others?”
Ian let out a low chuckle, “He’s not just anyone. He’s my brother.”
“Still not okay! And he hasn’t accepted you yet.”
“Alright, alright. I’ll listen to the wife.”
With a smirk, he pulled Clara into his embrace, giving Brodie a challenging eyebrow lift.
“Can’t help it. Married life just doesn’t afford the same freedoms as you bachelors.”
Brodie scoffed lightly, “Until you’re legally married, you’re just as single as I am.”
“Then let’s make it official tomorrow.”
“You’ve been in a coma. Dare you even step outside?”
“Brodie, are you deliberately trying to pick a fight with me? Show some respect for your elder brother.”
“Sorry, I don’t recall having such a brother!”
The two bickered intensely until Teo’s voice came from the doorway.
“When did you two get so chummy? Calling each other brothers now?”
“Who’s calling him brother!”
They both exclaimed in unison, and even their expressions of disdain matched perfectly.
Teo looked puzzled.
Why did he get the feeling that Brodie shared some striking similarities with Ian?
He approached Brodie, peering into his deep-set eyes, and after a moment’s hesitation said, “Your mother relies a lot on me. If I take care of her, it could be beneficial for her recovery. Do you have any objections?”
