Chapter 115
Chapter 115 Exiting The Haunted House
Herry wasn't as difficult to communicate with as Emily had imagined.
Emily had braced herself for his insults, but he surprisingly opened up quickly.NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
"Come with me. Your mom and dad are waiting for you."
Herry pouted, "Are we going back the entrance? That's embarrassing!"
"What do you want to do then? Do you want to keep going? There's a long way ahead, and it's only going to get scarier. Aren't you afraid?" Herry looked conflicted.
He was definitely scared, but he didn't want to admit it.
But soon enough, Herry stood up and took her hand. "I think you can lead me out."
As Herry held her hand, Emily could feel the sweaty palms of the frightened little boy.
"I can't promise I'll definitely get you out," she said.
But Herry seemed confident in her. "Stop talking, let's go! I don't want to be a coward! People will laugh at me!"
Ring, ring-
Her phone rang.
Emily picked it up. "Hello?"
"Are you continuing onward?" Mr. Satan asked.
Emily lightly responded, "How did you know?"
"I guessed," Mr. Satan said. "Kids like Herry are the hardest to control. If you can get him out today, he won't dare bother you again." Emily glanced at Herry beside her and chuckled.
Herry scowled unhappily, "What are you laughing at? Hang up! Pay attention, will you?"
Emily didn't hang up. "If you rush me, I'll turn back."
"Hey, you... beauty! Don't think just because I said you're pretty, you can do whatever you want! If I get out, I'm still going to tell my dad!"
"Okay, suit yourself," Emily replied nonchalantly.
Mr. Satan's light laughter came through the phone. "I heard that."
"What?"
"He complimented your looks."
Emily sighed. "You didn't hear him calling me an 'ugly monster' earlier."
Mr. Satan explained, "Boys his age are like that. The more they like someone, the more they tease them. It's like that makes them feel more present."
Emily was surprised. "You seem to understand this quite well. Did you treat the girls you liked this way when you were young?"
Mr. Satan didn't deny it. "Yes. But I was much worse than Herry. By the time I was eleven, I was already preparing for high school courses." "Such a braggart."
"You'll understand later. Let's not talk about that now. Can you make it out on your own?" Emily wasn't sure.
She wasn't clear how much further ahead the path stretched. She had no idea what situations lay ahead. Plus, she was accompanied by a child, she really didn't have much confidence going alone.
"...Can you help me?"
"I can, but I'm not feeling very happy right now."
Emily was puzzled. "So, are you mad at me?"
Did she do anything today to make him angry?
"I'm not mad at you, Emily."
"But you said you didn't want to help me."
"I'm upset with myself," Mr. Satan's voice sounded remorseful through the phone. "I should have resolved these matters sooner so I could be by your side and prevent anyone from bullying you."
Emily felt a bit embarrassed after hearing that. "Let's not talk about this now. I'm still inside the haunted house; it feels odd discussing this topic."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright."
She held the phone with one hand and Herry's hand with the other, slowly feeling her way forward. "Yes, there's nothing here, but it looks like there's a fork in the road up ahead..."
"Take the left path," Mr. Satan said decisively.
"Alright," Emily proceeded slowly and indeed saw a faint light ahead. "How did you know to go left?"
Mr. Satan explained to her, "The
haunted house has limited space
and is filled with many rooms, so the path through each room must be in a spiral or S-shape. The last path is located in the right, so this time it's the left."
With Mr. Satan's guidance, the next half hour was smooth for Emily.
Finally exiting the haunted house, Emily's hand was slightly sweaty.
The daylight was bright, almost glaring.
Squinting, Emily saw the laughing visitors outside, as if everything inside had been a dream. "Wow, you came out of the haunted house? That's impressive! Not many people can finish it."
"Can you tell us how to get through it? We want to try again."
"Are the ghosts scary in there? Where do they hide?"
A few people noticed Herry nearby and gathered around him.
"Hi, boy, did you lead your sister through? You're really amazing!" "You're not afraid at all, you're so brave."
