Chapter 17
Chapter 17 You're Beautiful
Emily's slaps seemed to exert all the strength in her body, causing Sophia to stagger back several steps and collapse to the ground.
Sophia's makeup today was meticulously done, and her clothes were specially chosen, the latest from Burberry. They weren't available in stores yet; she had to rely on Nathan's connections to acquire them.
But now her clothes were all dirtied, her makeup smeared off, revealing rough skin underneath, mottled like a zebra.
Nathan reached out to help her up, but was taken aback by Sophia's makeup-smeared face. "Sophia, what happened to your face?"
Since he had known Sophia, she had always been meticulously made-up, considered quite beautiful. During their intimate moments, she would insist on turning off the lights, and he had assumed it was due to her shyness. He hadn't expected her real appearance to be like this once her makeup was off...
Sophia panicked, covering her face with her hands, exclaiming, "Where's my bag? My mirror and foundation? I need to touch up my makeup..."
Olivia sneered, "Nathan, I thought your brain was the only problem, but it seems your eyes aren't functioning well either, falling for such a creature."
Nathan watched Sophia run off in embarrassment, struggling to touch up her makeup, feeling a mix of emotions.
"Olivia, what are you trying to do?"
"I'm not trying to do anything. I just can't stand you and Sophia bullying Emily! Just because Emily has a good temper and doesn't confront you doesn't mean no one will stand up for her! Nathan, I'm telling you, you better control that ugly monster Sophia. If she dares to be arrogant in front of Emily again, don't blame me for not being polite!"
Olivia stood with her hands on her hips, pointing angrily at Nathan, who couldn't even muster a response.
Having vented her anger, Emily felt relieved, but with more and more people gathering around, she didn't want to continue. She grabbed Sophia's arm and said, "Olivia, thank you for standing up for me and clearing my name. Let's go."
Olivia, having had her fill of cursing, clapped her hands. "Let's go, we'll go have a drink."
They quickly left the crowd, Olivia leading her to a secluded spot at the end of the deck.
She laughed heartily, hands on her hips. "Haha, Sophia looked so ridiculous just now! Emily, did you see it? Nathan's face turned green when he saw her makeup smudged!"
Olivia was a bit impulsive, but Emily had to admit, after the scene they had just caused, she felt quite relieved.
"Thank you, Olivia," Emily hugged her. "Thank you for standing up for me. I'm not good at arguing, always getting the short end of the stick in front of Sophia. I'm grateful to have you."
Olivia's gaze softened as she patted her back comfortingly. "You just think too much for others, Emily. You need to be more confident."
Emily had a thought, "Mr. Satan also told me the same thing."
"He told you to be more confident?"
"Yeah, he's told me more than once."
Olivia chuckled, "Well, that proves it's not just me who thinks that way. You're smart, beautiful, and have a good personality. Who wouldn't like you? Except maybe that idiot Nathan, who can't see your worth."
Emily smiled, tilting her head and sighing, "It feels good to let out a breath. You're right, I do need to be more confident."
The sea breeze tousled her hair, revealing a lively and delicate face, along with a slender, graceful neck.
Emily's appearance wasn't strikingly aggressive; it was rather cute, inviting people to approach her. Today, after putting on makeup, her charm was even more prominent. Her pure white dress billowed in the sea breeze, making her even more impressive. Olivia was fascinated, "Emily, you look stunning. You're already pretty without makeup, but when you dress up, you're truly beautiful!"
Emily blushed slightly, gently tucking the strands of hair tousled by the sea breeze behind her ear, "If you keep complimenting me like this, I'll blush. Stop flattering me."
"I'm not flattering you; you really are beautiful," Olivia observed her from head to toe, making clicking noises with her tongue, "Do you remember the actress Jennifer? The one who was in Friends? I've always thought you're similar to her."
"Oh, I hope I could have a hunk like Brad Pitt," Emily joked, "I wonder if Mr. Satan is that handsome."
They chatted and laughed together, but soon they started feeling hungry.
Olivia said, "Wait here, I'll go get us something to eat."Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
With that, she left.
Emily turned around, facing the deep blue sea under the night sky, spreading her arms and closing her eyes, feeling the refreshing sensation of the sea breeze passing through her hair.
New York City is on the Atlantic coast. But for so many years, she had lived in poverty and tension, never having the chance to see the sea with her own eyes.
She looked towards the shore, where the buildings across were already lit up, like countless colorful fireflies.
It was nighttime now. It should be the time when everyone was gathering at home, right? Office workers and students had returned home, families were gathered together, having lively dinners, watching TV shows, and sharing their day's experiences with each other. Home... She didn't have one now.
If it weren't for Mr. Satan taking her in, she wouldn't even have a place to stay.
Beep beep-
A text message alert.
Emily was startled. Was it Mr. Satan?
She had been busy dealing with Nathan and Sophia, and she had forgotten the main purpose of coming here today.
She opened her phone, and sure enough, it was a message from him.
[Don't stay in the sea breeze too long, you'll catch a cold - Satan]
