Chapter 36
Chapter 36 I Am Your Man
While settling the hospital bill, Emily felt fortunate she hadn't returned the five million Mr. Satan had given her. Otherwise, she'd be facing financial difficulties now. She'd never accept Nathan's charity.
Money, what a love-hate relationship. It breeds sin, yet everyone relies on it to survive.
When she returned from paying, Nathan and Sophia were gone.
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. It was good they left, so Dad wouldn't get upset when he woke up.
Two hours later, Dad was wheeled into the ICU.
Through the thick glass, she saw Dad covered in tubes and hooked up to countless machines, wrapped tightly, only his pale face exposed, eyes tightly shut.
Having visited so often, the nurses recognized her. Seeing her distressed look, one kindly advised, "You need to take care of yourself too. Your dad is out of danger but needs a few days of observation in the ICU. If everything's fine, he can be transferred back to a regular ward."
"Thank you." Emily forced a smile, but it was brittle and short-lived.
Her phone rang, disrupting the hospital's quiet.
Emily hurried to the stairwell to answer. "Hello?"
"Emily, you stood me up?!" It was Jackson's familiar voice, with his usual tone.
Emily sighed. "Sorry, boss. I need to deal with my dad's situation."
Jackson sensed her off mood. He became cautious. "Is your dad... okay? Do you have enough money? You idiot, I transferred you five million, why did you return it? I'll transfer it to you again right now."
"My dad is out of immediate danger," Emily said. "Boss, I appreciate your kindness. I have enough money. I didn't work today, so I can't take your money."
Jackson sounded annoyed. "Can you stop being so polite to me? It makes me feel like a stranger to you."
"I'm sorry..."
"Don't say sorry either. I've only known you for a few days, and all I hear from you is sorry," Jackson said. "Take care of your dad first. If you need anything, call me anytime." Emily exchanged a few more pleasantries and hung up.
Allen Parker's words on their way back today rang alarm bells in her mind.
Regardless of whether Allen Parker was Mr. Satan or not, she had to keep her distance from Jackson.
She wasn't a fool or a naive girl. Jackson's attitude towards her had changed significantly, and she could sense it.This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Now she was using Mr. Satan's money, and she regarded him as a lover. Regardless of Jackson's interest in her, she had to prevent further trouble.
Emily waited at the hospital for three days, finally receiving news that Dad could be transferred back to a regular ward for treatment.
Together with the nurses, she wheeled Dad back to his room. After finishing these tasks, Emily's vision darkened, and she collapsed to the ground.
In a faint, Emily felt like she was walking in a dry, scorching desert, directionless, endless, only able to keep walking, endlessly walking... "Water..."
Cool, refreshing water gently trickled into her mouth.
She drank greedily, the refreshing sensation finally awakening her.
She opened her eyes to find herself surrounded not by the hospital but by luxurious decor and furniture.
She was at the Hilton Hotel.
"Are you awake?" Mr. Satan gently touched her forehead. "Thankfully, your fever has gone down."
Emily felt heavy all over, unable to lift her arms. "Wasn't I at the hospital? How did I get back..."
Mr. Satan helped her sit up, leaning against his chest. He wiped her face and hands with a cold towel while speaking to her. "You got sick, and you didn't even know? Why didn't you call me for help?" Emily frowned, biting her lip without saying a word.
During the most helpless three nights at the hospital, she had thought about seeking Mr. Satan's help. But if he went to the hospital, he couldn't wear a mask and would inevitably expose himself to her. "You said there were still things to deal with. I didn't want to disrupt your plans."
Mr. Satan lightly tapped her head. "What plan could be more important than you? Emily, you're not alone anymore. If you're scared, just say so. If you need help and company, come to me. I am your man. Why do you always want to bear everything alone?" Emily was shaken by his words "I am your man," feeling a flutter in her heart.
"I can handle it. I've been facing life alone for so many years."
Mr. Satan shook his head with a smile. "You're stubborn."
Emily rested in his warm and broad chest for a while, feeling a bit better.
The room was still dark, but she could hear his breathing. Emily felt like a small boat rocking in the waves, finally finding a safe harbor.
"My dad..."
"He's recovering well. I've arranged four bodyguards to watch over him. Sophia won't get to see him again."
Emily tensed. "You know what happened at the hospital?"
"As long as it concerns you, I know. Sophia's mother is coming back, along with her supposedly influential stepfather. They're probably here to discuss her marriage to Nathan." Emily nodded, not too surprised.
"Emily, do you want revenge?" Mr. Satan asked her. "Sophia is scheming to become Mrs. Reed. I can make sure she never gets her wish."
After thinking for a moment, Emily shook her head.
"They're already arguing now. I hope they stay together forever and never find happiness."
Mr. Satan chuckled softly. "Your logic is quite interesting."
"Is it not?"
His kiss landed on her forehead. "You're right no matter what you say."
Emily felt a bit embarrassed by his words and shrunk her neck. "Anyway, thank you."
"If you really want to thank me, how about bearing my child, hmm?" Emily bit her lip. "Not today. I'm sick. Should I go sleep in the guest room?"
"No way." Mr. Satan remembered something else. "That well-paying job you mentioned, is the boss Jackson?"
Emily didn't hide it from him. "Yes, my job is to do makeup for the models at car shows. At first, Jackson wasn't too satisfied, but after the first event went well, he approved of me." "Hmm," Mr. Satan sneered. "This kid Jackson, daring to have thoughts about my woman?"
