Chapter 40
Chapter 40 Don't Force Her
"What are you two doing here?"
Emily turned around abruptly, spotting Allen Parker standing nearby, his gaze sharp as he observed her and Jackson.
"Brother, perfect timing," Jackson finally stood up, no longer pressing her. He gestured towards Emily. "Do you like her?"
The gleam in Allen Parker's eyes flickered. "She seems decent."
After a pause, he added, "From an employer's perspective, she's a good employee."
Jackson pressed further, "But from a man's perspective?"
Allen Parker chuckled lightly. "She's beautiful, with a great personality. What man wouldn't like her?"
Jackson's eyes turned sharp instantly. "Are you serious?"
"Kidding," Allen Parker lifted his wrist to check the time. "Jackson, the exhibition is in less than an hour. Don't you need to prepare?"
Time was tight, and now wasn't the best time for a conversation.
Jackson fell silent for a moment, then pulled Emily back to the makeup room, leaving Allen Parker alone, seemingly lost in thought as he watched them leave.
The people in the makeup room were already on edge.
Wilson paced back and forth with a coffee, relieved to see Jackson and Emily return. "Oh my God! You're finally back. Emily, you need to start working quickly. We have less than an hour left!" Emily immediately opened her makeup kit and started working on the models.
Wilson approached her, whispering, "Did the boss take you out to discuss the makeup requirements?"
Emily let out a sigh. "No."
"What should we do then?"
Emily gritted her teeth. "I'll work according to my own ideas."
"Oh, my God, do you have confidence? I heard that Jackson's brother, Allen Parker, is also here today, along with many other big shots. What if you mess up?" Wilson fretted.
Emily glanced towards the door, seeing Jackson standing there listening to the staff's reports, seemingly having no intention to discuss makeup requirements with her.
"Jackson doesn't look pleased. Did you offend him?" Wilson asked.
"I don't know," Emily shrugged.
Emily didn't have time to care about Jackson's mood; she immediately immersed herself in her work.
Emily had thought in the morning that since the theme this time was "speed" and "power," the makeup couldn't be as simple and elegant as last time; it had to lean towards vibrant and bold.
She began applying makeup to the models. Opting for intense dark eyeshadows and lip colors, she aimed to highlight the eyes' cold and noble charm. The lip color was a mature red, outlined with deep brown to enhance their fullness. She then enhanced the contours of their faces, adding highlights to make the models' features sharp and three-dimensional, overall presenting a wild and unrestrained femininity.
The hairstyles were also done to be flowing and flamboyant, with big waves, meticulously shaped and fixed with spray.
One model after another completed their makeup and hair, ready to go to the exhibition hall.
With the experience from last time, Emily worked much faster this time. When she finished the makeup for the last model, there were fifteen minutes left until the start of the exhibition.
Emily and Wilson exchanged a glance, both breathing out long sighs of relief.
Thankfully, they made it on time.
Wilson counted the people, then suddenly exclaimed, "There were supposed to be ten models, but why is one missing?"
Emily had been fully focused on doing makeup and hadn't noticed how many models she had already finished.
Wilson, worried, counted again, growing increasingly flustered. "This is bad, really bad. I informed thirty models, but we only have twenty-nine..."
"Wilson, is it really one person missing?"
"Shh!" Wilson nervously pressed his finger to his lips. "Don't speak so loudly, don't let the boss hear!"
As they spoke, Jackson had somehow walked up to them.
His anger still lingered in the corners of his eyes and brows. "We're missing a person? How do you work?"NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
"Boss, please don't be angry, please! I'll call someone right away to come over. I'll make the call now!" Wilson said in a panic.
Jackson coldly remarked, "The exhibition is about to start. Will it be too late to call someone now?"
Wilson shrunk his neck, not daring to say anything further. "Then... where should I go to find someone?" "You go," Jackson said.
Emily widened her eyes in surprise as Jackson looked directly at her.
She didn't quite catch on at first. "Me? No, no, I'm just a makeup artist. How can I go on stage as a model?"
Wilson suddenly brightened. "Right! Emily can do it!"
Emily repeatedly refused, "Sorry, Wilson, I really can't help with this. I can't do it. I can't stand there in those sexy clothes and let people take pictures of me."
"Then wear something less sexy," Jackson said, reaching over and pulling down her zipper.
Emily was startled, "What are you doing?"
"Five million," Jackson stated.
Emily tightened her coat around herself, bewildered. "What?"
Jackson explained, "You'll model on stage, and the pay for the day is five million."
"No," Emily shook her head.
Wilson was getting anxious. "Emily, can you help? Today's exhibition is very important. If it fails, I'll definitely lose my job!"
"Wilson, I really..."
"If Emily doesn't want to, don't force her, okay?" Allen Parker appeared at the backstage makeup room door, lightly chuckling with his arms crossed. "Forcing a woman to do something she doesn't want to isn't what a gentleman should do. What do you say, Jackson?"
